That track they use for the credits is like the theme of the Rayxanber series. It's been in every game, so of course they would use it for the credits. And I love it how they show us the stages of all the games put together, one last time, for the final game. Ah, the nostalgia.
Well the game visually looks strong, and the gameplay looks solid too. The shooting sounds are certainly bad, while the music is.... awesome? It is quite good in and of itself... but it does not really always fit, like the music for the boss fight at 24:00 , sounds like a slow drawn out melodrama piece fit for an 80's buddy cop movie that has a bittersweet ending, not really exciting or pulse pounding for a big boss fight. For that matter, some of the other music doesn't really have the energy to fit with the stages as well as they could, though again, they are WELL composed, they aren't DESIGNED as well as they could be to go with the stages or fights they are connected to, some at least. All in all though, a solid game that I would not mind in my own library, some of the weapon changes are... meh, like the green powerups not having an electric motif is unfortunate, and the yellow laser shot is very bland, the fireball change is arguably the best as it has the coverage to be useful in other situations besides for the direction chosen, and it looks as powerful as it is mechanically.
I remember seeing screens of this game in EGM magazine back in the early 90s, and it was forbidden fruit from overseas. Now that I can watch someone play it, it's basically ripping off R-Type in its graphical style, interface, gameplay, and options. The music is by far the best part (though the SNES could pull off tunes about as good as these), while the sounds are surprisingly awful and pretty much no better than an NES can do. Very short levels and very easy bosses too; a surprising letdown. At least I can listen to the music though.
Interestingly enough on the game's official soundtrack there is a final boss theme and it was much more fitting, but it wasn't used in game. There are a lot of unused tracks for this game, not sure why.
Serious lack of backgrounds throughout this game! And the video "hides" how HORRIBLE the sound FX actually are which is a shame since the music is awesome.
He turned it way down using an emulator because the sound effects are super annoying. When I used to play this on the real hardware, I would try to play using only the missiles as much as possible because the laser sounds are like fingernails scraping on a chalkboard.
Now that's some impressive spritework. It's a shame what happened to Data West, they were apparently working on a bunch of cool stuff like this before closing. Bounty Arms comes ot mind.
this game has a fucking awesome sound track

i have to say this game, rayxanber 3 has wonderful bgm it's great music!!!!
Check out a full runplay of Rayxanber III almost without shot noises on my channel in the PC Engine CD playlist
Opening music is cryptic yet inspiring to advance to the next level. Job well done by the sound department....
Holy mother of god! This soundtrack is beyond amazing!
Talk about a hidden gem of a video game soundtrack.
Jesus the gunfire is indeed terribly annoying. Good thing you lowered the volume!
can u lower the firing sound in game?
If you play it with the Magic Engine emulator, like he did, then yes.
The detail in the busy artwork is AMAZING in this game!!! Its also amazing that this is an 8 bit system.
Fave system of all time!
The sprite work on the stage 1 mother ship is insane. Found this game for 5$ in Japan, couldn't believe my luck. Nice playthru !
Bought this about 15 years ago to play. But dear fucking christ, that goddamn laser sound drove me insane.
Top notch music in this game.
I had this game, the music was worth the $70-$80 by itself. back in the early ninties,
esta consola es muy buena para este tipo de juegos, nunca la veo ralentizarse
Music is great.
Datawest games always had great detail. I got to the end and the game locked up, didnt see the ending.

Hey! the song playing at the end of this game is from the first stage of Rayxanber 2. I guess it was reused for this game.
Now this looks AWESOME!!
Menudo espectáculo... Que sonido
当時エンディングを観れなかったんで助かります☆あざーす
Lovin it.
Not heard of this one. Looks great though! :)

At first I went "where are the sound effects??" Then I found out what the game normally sounds like ...
1. Empty Flight
2. Blood Lake
3. The Forever Cave
4. Tunnel of Lost Souls
5. The Great Dungeon
6. The Last Judgement
Dabomb 333 what imaginative naming of the third and final installment's stages:).
this game is superior to #2 in all ways but one - TITLE SCREEN
This game has got to have the most unfitting final boss theme I've ever heard. Though it would probably fit in a tragic final battle.

@@thomasmacdonough288 Makes me wonder why they didn't use the actual final boss theme.
Hm, for st 1.1 to 1.2? Are you supposed to protect the dreadnought or destroy it?
The soundtrack is good, but it sounds a little weird with the sound effects near-inaudible.
One question I've always had: Do you get anything for preventing the big ship from getting damaged in stage 1?
Serious lack of backgrounds throughout this game! And the video "hides" how HORRIBLE the sound FX actually are which is a shame since the music is awesome.
ryzmaker11 Yeah the firing sound is the most annoying thing ever. I cant play this game as it annoys me so much!
This has gotta be one of the greatest soundtracks ever. Really juxtaposed with that shooting sound though, maybe one of the worst ever
Stage 3 is pure sex.
the music sounds like something straight out of a 80's discotec - i can almost see the mullets & fro hawks now 😆
What are those at the ending? Unused graphic?
Those are stage graphics from Rayxanber I & II.
Why on Pc engine shoot em ups, shooting sounds are so bad????
Hmm... My opinion is that this games had better gameplay than Rayxanaber II, but it has worse level colors. Red brown, red, brown... boring, you know?
Why did your gunfire have no sound??
He turned it way down using an emulator because the sound effects are super annoying. When I used to play this on the real hardware, I would try to play using only the missiles as much as possible because the laser sounds are like fingernails scraping on a chalkboard.
playing this now, pretty boring but not as bad as deep blue lol
Clearly this game is heavily influenced by R-Type
Wow, if this isn't an R-Type rip off, I don't know what is!
Im a shooter fan but this looks boring nothing different
Now that's some impressive spritework. It's a shame what happened to Data West, they were apparently working on a bunch of cool stuff like this before closing. Bounty Arms comes ot mind.
