Fun Fact: Kostner station was built in 1907 by the Metropolitan West Side Railroad as Kildare station, and only had an exit onto Kildare. In 2002, the station was rebuilt with the main entrance moved to Kostner and the entrance at Kildare demoted to an unstaffed auxiliary entrance. The rebuilt station was originally going to be named Kostner-Kildare, but was changed to just Kostner.
As for the status as a least used station, in 2022, Kostner saw a total of 73,788 passenger entries, an increase of 13.2% from 2021. Also in 2022, King Drive station saw a total of 63,011 passenger entries, which was a decrease of 2% from 2021. However, in March of 2023, King Drive saw an increase in year-to-date ridership of 21.9%, while Kostner saw an increase of only 15.6%, so if the current trend hold Kostner could reclaim its title.
Similar thing happened to the Damen pink line station. It was originally named Hoyne, but it was rebuilt in the early 2000s and renamed Damen and the main entrance was relocated to Damen and the Hoyne entrance was changed to an auxiliary entrance.
"It's a station" So true, such a powerful statement. This was truly a life-changing moment of all time. The return of Rice probably gave you flashbacks from when you lost the Bus Battle 😂.
0:48 - i agree- yes it is sad. the trains in Chicago used to be seating facing forward (and backwards) so everyone could look out the window (no sideway seats) It is good to be able to look out of the window .
For a least-used station, it definitely looks better than expected considering as you brought up, it’s shaded. Meanwhile out of the least-used stations I’ve been to, Riverfront Stadium station on the Newark Light Rail takes the cake for being horrendously bad. For starters, it’s one-way operation…to the last stop that is RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. And it’s named after a stadium that has since been demolished. They’re building high-rises on the stadium site now, but that’s not gonna make a difference when they could just walk to Newark Broad Street if they wanted to take the light rail to Newark Penn
King Drive is the least used station. Considering it only has one platform and is literally across the street from o block that explains itself. Kostner is also least used because it’s on the west side in one of the most dangerous areas in Chicago
thank you for not taking off points for it being at-grade! I don't care what Reece Martin thinks, at-grade CTA is cool as hell and has top-tier vibes
A station is a station at the end of the day and I don’t think it matters whether its elevated, at-grade, or underground. In fact at-grade is probably the easiest to make accessible!
at-grade stations are perfectly normal for a light rail system like the CTA
@@zyxw59 What are you talking about? The CTA is NOT “Light Rail!”
By definition it is “Metro Heavy Rail!” (Which includes Subways & Elevated systems.)
There are no true “Street-Running” tram/trolley aspects to the CTA L. The last line that had pantographs was the two car Yellow Line, which the CTA safely converted to third-rail from overhead catenary in 2004.
Sure, at-grade crossings exist on the system, but the third-rail shoes are cleverly positioned far away from the at-grade crossing gates to not be a danger to the general public!
@@bkark0935 I believe they were joking
wait i swear i've seen you on barq lmaoo
The Pink line had nice views
This station was formerly Kildare until 2002
U can only enter to go to Harlem & exit from Cottage Grove @ King Drive
They should elevate the at grade stations and have Pink Line go all the way to North Riverside Mall.
@@RayArias It apparently used to! I mentioned that in my CTA Extensions video and a lot of people told me that was the case.
In a neighborhood in which my maternal grandmother used to live!
5000 series doe best when there is a micture of seating.. capacity is grea, but at non-prak times its great to have more 'personal' seating!!
LIFECHANGING STATION!!!
I'd be curious where you'd get your information on which stations are the busiest and which are not the busiest. Is this info publicly available?
You can find CTA’s ridership data here: www.transitchicago.com/ridership/
I compiled it all into an excel document because I’m a nerd which is how I got the averages.
My station is the least used on the brown line,.
