Roof Inspection for Hail Damage

  • How do I know if my roof is damaged video is presented by a roof inspector checking the roof for hail damage.
Colorado Springs roofers are familiar with hail and how it impacts roofs. At Integrity Roofing and Painting we have team members that are certified by Haag engineering to inspect roofs. Certified inspectors have more knowledge and guaranteed experience
then a regular roofer for wind and hail inspections. At Integrity you can count on an inspection and report that are based on objective facts. When an area on a roof has only subjective damage we will give that interpretation. Haag Engineer Certification is important to validate the experience of an inspector.
In this video Josiah Waggoner performs a thorough hail inspection of a roof that had hail impacts that were made from stones that were up to 1-3/4" in diameter. There were a few that may have been 2" stones.
The fiberglass mat of these shingles were fractured and ultimately this roof will be replaced.

You said 19 hits is enough. What is the minimum amount of hits required for a full replacement for most major carriers, I have Farmers?

    • @IntegrityRoofingandPainting
      @IntegrityRoofingandPainting  7 лет назад +5

The point of the video is to identify functional damage to shingles. The number of hail hits needed to total a roof is determined by each carrier for each geographical location. That discussion is above my pay grade.

Depends on the insurance adjuster and size of hall. if we were talking above 2" divots that damaged fractured the shingle, 6 or 7 is usually good.
if we are talking below 1", and it only removed granules, you could be seeing 40 per square and be denied as cosmetic damages.
1-2" where it removed granules but didn't fracture, 10-15 is usually a good number.
3" plus: half the time they approve from the ground or phone. the other half, I've seen approval at 3-5 hits.
Of course depending on your policy, the storm, wind speeds, etc, you may find one side of the house hailed out and another section undamaged, so generally you are supposed to evaluate per section and per slope

I think you can but a lot of times you won’t be able to get the same shingle so if you’re going through insurance they’ll pay for a new one so it all matches. Also I think you would have to pull up the ones before it anyway since they interlock in a certain way and you may open yourself up for leaking anyway. I’m no expert though.

nothing. Actually real world studies conducted over 30 years proved that granule loss makes no difference, and that a shingle can be INSTALLED with 70% less granules and after 30 years it has 0 noticeable effect on tensile strength, elongation, impact resistance, etc.
In fact, prior to the 1920s some shingle manufacturers didn't provide granules.
The best studies to start to learn more are the Hail Damage studies by Herzog & Marshall, and the more recent ones with Scott Morrison.
Additionally, dating back to the 1960s William C Cohen Disproved the misconception about granule loss in a government funded study, although to be fair, Cohen was mostly referring to MOD Bit, but it did overlap with shingles

i heard a roofer in another video talk about roofing companies doing insurance fraud, which most insurance itself is a scam. lol but the roofer said some roofing companies with no Tegridy will take their hammer and smack the roof in spots to make it look like hail damage so they can get paid to a full replacement job. Aka the most amount of money for the job. BY NO MEANS am i saying this man does that, i was just reminded because i just watched a roofer expose how some roofing companies will do that. Its sneaky, and there is no way to tell if it was hail or a hammer. It would be way too easy to fake.

  • @danbeau9404

Why is he wasting his time inspecting potential hail damage? Only the Insurance company can approve a roof replacement and whatever he says is meaningless. Only slinky storm chasers would bother to go on a roof before it has been examined by the insurance company. They will go down and attempt to get the homeowner to sign an agreement to allow them to do the roof Once it is approved. In most cases this agreement is non binding but they get the HO to believe it is. I have been doing this before this kid was born and I have never went on a roof before the adjuster. If you think you have hail damage, call the insurance company and if they offer you a settlement, than call a couple Local roofers. Don't be fooled by trucks with local plates and magnetic signs. Check last years yellow pages, if their not in there, their storm chasers. Also, never let them see your settlement numbers, this is none of their business. Copy the scope of work after removing the settlement amounts. An honest local roofer would never ask to see the papers. Finally, if you are confused, ask to see their drivers license. They are almost always from another state and they never change the drivers licenses. I got a 33000 dollar job doing just that. You can also google their company name. Usually the home office is listed and you can tell what state they are in.

I had a client that called the insurance and got denied for a new roof and i helped represent her the next month and she got approved because i showed the adjuster the damages that were there. Insurance dont wanna pay and lose money so that's why is good go have a contractor represent you. If not then you're gonna waste the adjuster time going to the HO roof and there might be no damage becquse most HO dont go to their own roofs and if you file a claim igmta going to stay on your record for 2 years and depending on your insurance your monthly payment could go up. So please my dude if you dont know what youre talking about then just stay quiet because ita bettsr having a free inspection inspection before an adjustsr
