That wasn’t her choice. She expected them to call cut, even the director was about to. Marlon kept going. That was ALL Brando. You can even tell by her body language and the choppiness of the subsequent lines post glove drop. It’s one of the best moments in movie history
I think the point is that whether we have proof of it being improvised or not, Brando improvised so often and in such a similar way to this that it simply WORKS. Meaning it forces her to react in a natural way, and he reciprocates and it continues from there. He was the best. She was equally as amazing in this scene: her laugh when he points out "the nose". If that laugh was acting then she was the best as well. This scene is the best I've ever seen.
John Sinclair that’s not stilted at all or bad that as actually one of the best parts he’s natural in his performance and the way he acts and moves his body in that short moment demonstrates his dominance and sexual presence in the scene
Dc watcher Maybe the script is terrible (and it certainly is bad) or maybe the direction was horrendous. But the net effect is bad acting. Yes, his body moves well, but the awkward dialogue is too much. Listen to the “I don’t like the country. The crickets make me nervous.” section. Painful. 0:54
It's like he just stepped out of a time machine; the style is so natural, such a contrast to the acting of the time.
I dont know what to say because I am not an actor, all I just see is a great natural performance by Brando
One of the greatest romantic scenes in movie history.
Marlon brando actor legendary best 🎭
Theatre 🎭
Brando plucks lint in almost all his performances. He does it in Streetcar (Stella's back), in the Godfather, when he wipes the chair for Sollozzo.
He puts the glove on man, plucks the dirt out of it.
Eve Marie Saint let the glove slip out of her hand on purpose. It was her acting choice.
Nope, it was an accident. Brando picks it up and continues improvising. One of the greatest performances ever.

Who says this is improvised?
The part when she drops the glove, that wasnt supposed to happen and yet Brando integrated that into the scene as if it WAS supposed to happen.
And When she dropped the glove and Brando picked it up Elia Kazan said keep rolling
And the fact he put the glove on, it’s just the sort of thing he would do.

Mostly stilted. Could have been better. Mind blowing for the time, though.
John Sinclair it’s not stilted it’s very natural , and a work of art

I would love to see you try doing the scene as natural as him John Sinclair
