It’s just a shame about the blade rap, but I couldn’t get past how deep it was on mine. The quality was great otherwise. Great video!

I cant do it........ but like you said it’s a very easy fix!!!!!! And I’m sure down the line RR will definitely address this matter!!!!!!!! Not to worry backed for life!!!!!! Thanks JB
I sharpened my whittler a couple of times, and I haven't seen the issue return. I have however been careful with how I close it. I think eventually, it won't bother me at all. I will continue to buy more RR knives.
Great video! Can’t wait to finally have my RRRs in my possession. I have a GEC 44 with a TINY amount of blade wrap - so ya, it can happen. I still love my GEC 44 anyway.
@@BigRedEDC Nah, definitely across the board with pretty much anyone who makes slip joints. Don’t get me wrong, I hope it gets addressed but I won’t scare me off the brand by any means. Take care buddy!! 👍🤙

My whittler was fine but I don't let the blade slam when closing if I can help it. Only thing that I really notice was the blade thickness on the main blade. Usually on traditional knives the blade is thinner and slicer. I use mine in the kitchen a lot and that's why I noticed it.
I noticed it on the RRR001, but stropped right out. Just don't drop it and no problem. On my RRR003 I have not had a problem, but I don't drop them, or snap them shut.
Great review, Big Red. Love my three and use them everyday! The Whittler had my attention at first, but the Kayak is becoming the most useful due to the shape of the two blades.
@@BigRedEDC Last night the SMKW site showed the Kayak in stock with the other two out of stock. When you snooze your loose! ! ! As Andy told us, the replacements will be ordered but they will be slightly different from the original knives.
I bought all 3. My Easy Open Razor definitely has blade wrap to the extent that there is a tiny chip, but I love the knife. My plan is to use and sharpen it enough that it isn't an issue. My Kayak is perfect, and honestly I've been carrying it the most. My Swell Center Whittler is perfect, no blade wrap at all. My one nitpicky complaint about the whittler is that it does not have a great grind angle for whittling when considering the thickness of the blade. For as thick as the blade is, it should have a steeper / higher grind. It will handle basic easy whittling tasks as is though. Thanks for your honest review of these, and I too will be getting each new one as they come out (as long as I have money anyway, lol).
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with the issue Joshua!! I am still all in on them and will be interested to see how the issue is resolved!! Thanks for watching brother!!
Yes indeed...the kick needs to be a bit wider or the blade a bit narrower! Sharpening should remove the needed metal from the blade and correct the issue!

The only sub-par RR knives I received were years ago, and too cheap to bother sending back. The most recent one I got is absolutely perfect in every way. I would definitely consider this line, but at that price point a lot of other options open up.
My RRR001 had pretty bad blade rap. My remedy was to keep slamming it shut until I had a pretty severe ding in the blade and then sharpen it out. Worked for me, but it really shouldn't have come that way. Way back when Andy did his first video of the RRR's the blade he had in the video had blade rap. These should have either, not shipped from China that way, or if they were received by SMKW in that condition they all should have been sent back until the problem was resolved. This was a major release and it left a bad impression on many customers, myself included. In fact it was never even mentioned by SMKW. They should own up to it and make good on it, by admitting these never should have gone out and issue a credit to those of us that accepted them as they were. Just my opinion.
I fully understand your stance Rich! It is unfortunate that the issue did arise. For me...it will be...how its handled from here. Now that the issue has been identified, what will be done to resolve it!! Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experience with it!!
I only have a little blade rap on the large blade of my whittler . The rap on the whittler is extremely minor . I really had to look hard to notice . None on the razor or Kayak . I still love my RRR knives !!
I like RRs, but mainly because they’re super cheap, so allow you to collect all the different patterns for small change prices. These break that basic rule, in that they’re not cheap. Now they need to stand their own in some quite exalted company, especially now the U.K.
The only RRR I have is the Whittler, and mine doesn't get blade rap. On older Rough Ryder's, I would get that sometimes. If it's deep enough, sharpening won't take care of it unless you sharpen down all the way to the deepest part of the dent. If you can get to the raised part of the mainspring & file that down, it will get rid of the rap. It's hard to do with a dremel without damaging the liners. On the RRR, I would just return them, rather than attempt to repair it. Guaranteed for life, use that guarantee.
@@BigRedEDC Yeah but after it's resolved won't the blade keep banging that pin every time I close it? I'm assuming the kick is too short to keep the blade off the pin. Thoughts?
