- House Republican leadership is slated to deliver remarks Wednesday following a closed-door meeting amid the party's effort to avert a government shutdown.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told The Hill that his decision to reschedule a vote on his partisan spending plan is leaving Congress seemingly no closer to passing a stopgap funding bill ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline.
The package, which pairs a 6-week continuing resolution (CR) with a bill requiring proof of citizenship to vote, appears destined for failure in the House. A vote on the measure, expected later Wednesday, comes after a number of Republicans staked opposition to the legislation last week, forcing Johnson to scrap the initial vote.
Even if the legislation does pass, however, it is doomed in the Senate, where lawmakers are urging the Speaker to change course and back a CR that could actually make it to President Biden’s desk and be signed into law.

It sure wasn't the Democrats that did anything good for your race, but it was the Union Army and the Republican party, or what they are called today that set blacks free. They Democrats only told you what you wanted to hear, yet did the opposite of what they said they would do, and for what? To fill their own pockets! In your aspect, it is better today only in that relm, and it was the Republicans that you can thank for that. However, this is the worst economy that I've ever seen, food prices are ridiculous as is everything else compared to just 4 years ago. And why you might ask? Basically, because the the Democratic agenda is for you to own nothing and for us to totally depend on the government for everything. Going was not illegal. Taking pictures or video in a restricted area was the problem. This had been done before with no outcry, but most followed the rules and his crew did not do this. He almost for sure knew nothing about the rule. Plus the families asked him to be there. Then there was the politics of this. Most politicians in his position would have done the same. His advisors did let him down.
Inflation is typically caused by an increase in money supply. The money supply had an enormous spike in 2020. I believe that is related to PPP, but it obviously was not due to Biden because it was before he was elected. The inflation increased during his term because there is a lag between the creation of the money and its inflationary effects.
Additionally the Inflation reduction act was passed in Aug 2022, and inflation has seemed to have curbed since then. Some people say "we still have inflation" because prices have not dropped. That is misunderstanding inflation. It's like saying "we're still going fast" even though you took your foot of the gas pedal. Prices do not go down when inflation flattens, they stop increasing.
I don't think it is Trump's fault, per se. It's likely we'd have a large spending bill in response to COVID no matter who was president
