Another great video and some great advice here. Well done! Totally agree with the name thing. It’s so important! I always set myself the challenge of knowing all names before the first recess of the first day. Knowing them before the first day is even better! It’s also important to pronounce them correctly. It sounds obvious but many kids go through school with nobody ever checking! Names are key to the child’s identity and a vital part of building relationships. It’s so important to get them right and use them! I have no idea why, but there’s a big difference between “Good morning” and “Good morning, Billy”. Names are crucial.
I think you’re right and children get so upset when their names are mispronounced. It’s a huge part of their identify. It feels like a long time since my NQT year now but some of these top tips have stuck with me regardless :)
thankyou these videos are really helpful! i’m 14 and have just done a week of work experience at my old primary school and i loved it and i would love to be a primary school teacher so these videos really help xx
Thank you so much Elizabeth! We can support you on your journey. Feel free to message us any time you have a question ☺️ what age did you work with on your placement?
Hi, I'm 16 years old and have just started my as-levels. I am very interested in becoming an early years teacher, and I was wondering if you could give me some more information on what it's like? I am from wales, UK
Hi Abigail! I’m so excited that you are about to begin your teaching journey. Teaching is tough but I believe the positives outweigh the negatives. I’ve made a video called the pros and cons of teaching, or should I become a teacher - this will help to inform you! In fact I have a playlist called ‘thinking about teaching’ which may be good for you ☺️ if you have any further questions after watching be sure to message me again and I can help with anything! Good luck on your journey x
Hi Katie! Loved seeing your video and listening to your answers. This is definitely a valuable video for new teachers and even veteran teachers like me can take something from it. I wish you the best as always and hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you for popping by! I hope new teachers will find some comfort in the tips - I always wished there had been someone offering an insight in this way when I was training. Of course I’m far from having all the answers but I know that documenting my ideas like this is helping me to grow too. Do you have a similar video?
Thank you! I enjoy the creative process of a Q&A so much. It really helps me to organise my thoughts and suggestions. I appreciate you popping by to check out the video ☺️
I am really loving your videos and find them so useful! I would love to know how you use your iPad and pencil in the classroom and how it helps you with planning as it’s something I have considered! Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll add that into my next vlog (I have two pre recorded so it’ll probably be in a couple of weeks!!) the Apple Pencil/ good notes app is great for planning and meeting notes. Great idea for me to talk about how I use it in work. I want to make a whole series on planning documents too! Where do you teach? And thank you for the kind feedback ☺️
Great! I have a friend who was asking about studying there actually. Teaching too! Said he gets a bursary for it? Anyway have a great time and keep us posted on your teaching journey. We are happy to help out if we are able!
We have just recorded a video about first day tips/ worries! It’ll be up in a couple of weeks. I know it’s terrifying but I promise it’s normal to feel this way. You’ll love it too once the day comes around. Where will you be taking your NQT year? Let me know what else I can film that might be helpful for you!
Thank you for taking the time to check out this video. I've just spotted that you have a GCSE revision channel! While we aren't the same content wise, we definitely have some similarities. Perhaps we could connect on instagram and help to promote one another? I use @forteachers . Hope to connect with you there!
Hi love your channel, I’m going in to teaching but the work-life balance really scares me when I see comments about it and how you have no weekends off and work all day long is it really like that? Thankyou :) xx
Do you have advice about deferring your NQT year? I don't feel quite ready yet and I am considering supply teaching with a Masters for a year before starting my NQT. I am a bit worried about whether I will find it difficult to find a job if I take a year out. Any advice is much appreciated :-)
Hi Melissa! I would just say if you word this correctly you’d probably have no difficulty. Eg. Word it as you want to take time to get to know more schools and how they work, build on experience gained at placement and look for the right place to take your NQT year that would be fine. A masters addition always looks amazing on a cv regardless of when it is taken. I’ll ask around to find a more specific answer to your question but these are my initial thoughts. Everyone has a unique journey when it comes to teaching. Do what feels right for you! X
Hey 👋 I’ve recently found your channel and I am finding it a great help as I am starting my NQT year this year !! Thanks a bunch !!! I’m starting out in a P1 class. Any tips? 😃
Hey! Thank you for the feedback. We have some more specific videos to upload soon about starting out with a new class, such as lesson planning tips and first week advice. Hopefully this will be useful for you. Any other video suggestions feel free to post here and we can make something for you! Where will you be taking your NQT year?
Thanks Dom! Exciting to think you will be at this stage soon - best of luck with the first year! I’m sure we will speak a lot throughout it and I can hear all your stories ☺️
i’m 15 and ive wanted to be an early years primary school teacher since i was very young. i used to have a whiteboard and line up my teddy bears pretending they were my students and i love any task that involves children, especially babysitting and reading to my younger brother. i’m taking my gcse’s this year and i have no idea where to go from secondary school to get into teaching. i was wondering if you could give me some information about where i go from here. i’m from the uk. thank you

Hey! Thanks for your video, it was really helpful. I'm studying teaching in Germany and I really want to be a teacher in the UK. I've lived in the UK for over two years, so I can really imagine spending my life there. But what's it liike to be a teacher in the UK? I heard not the best stuff. So I really appreciate hearing some experience. Cheers x
Hi Sarah. That’s an interesting question as both of us have actually moved away from the UK now. I have mixed feelings as the work life balance isn’t great in the UK, however it’s amazing for experience as you as challenged a lot. There is plenty of training available and I feel you end up very unskilled thanks to being surrounded by hard working people. How come you fancy the change? Maybe I can make a video about what it’s like teaching in a UK school. Are you thinking of moving next year? Thank you for checking out the content!
Hey thanks for the quick reply. A video about your experience being a teacher in the UK would be great. I would love to teach German or Spanish abroad and since I really fancy the UK (don't ask me why just do haha) I am really thinking about it. Also the salary (which is important) is so much better in Germany so I'm really torn. Also a point which I think would be intreseting for you to mention are the differences between private and public schools as we do not have that kind of system in Germany. So that could be interesting! :)
Okay thank you for the suggestions! We have just filmed a comparison with Hong Kong / UK video and we discuss some details there. I’ll definitely make a more specific UK one too and talk about wage / hours as I feel it’s important for people to learn about. Would you make a channel too? The world needs more teacher tubers!
I agree you the comment about the vids being really useful but I still dk if I want to be a teacher because of the extra required work as well as kid hooky your private life as u have to do so much marking. Could u write about the extra duties or a teacher outside the school x
You may not know the answer to this but I was planning to go to college before uni, I’m from Scotland. Would you recommend a childhood practise course or social science? As I can use either to get into uni! Thanks x
As an NQT do you have to go in to school during the half term before the year starts. If so how early, and how do you prepare as you don’t know the class and the planning
Each school is different. I wasn’t expected to go in before I started. I chose to go in and meet the class. Have you been asked to go in? Normally you’ll start the planning etc after you meet them or on training days before you start ☺️
I'm sorry to hear this! But don't worry, you could try working supply. I've heard it can be really useful anyway to get to know how different schools operate. Have you got any more interviews lined up? I have friends who taught supply and swear by it - they found it incredibly useful!
I don't know how it works but I think the Council can supply you with these things, or you can go in and ask for like an LSA (Learning Support Assistant.) Or something. (So late.)
Yes I studied BA Honours Primary Education with QTS. I made a video all about my uni experience and also made a video about different routes into teaching. Do you think this might be the career for you? ☺️
you have quite a lot of btec choices such as health and social and childcare and I’m sure you can do most btec courses which will get you in to teaching so don’t worry about it x I’m doing btec and going uni to do teaching this year
Hi Skyla! Please check out my ‘teaching in hong kong’ videos for more information on the wage teachers receive in Hong Kong , and my ‘reasons to become a primary school teacher’ video for information about how much UK teachers are paid. Thank you!
I’m studying to be a teacher in the US but I’ve always dreamed of living in the UK. Is there way I will be able to transfer to the UK when I get my degree? Is that unheard of? Lol
Hi! I'm sure there must be a way as I have friends from abroad who work in the UK. I wish I had more advice for you at this stage. Try TES.COM for applications regardless. I know the visa situation in the UK is tricky at the moment, hopefully it will begin to sort itself out soon...!! Good luck!
This is so useful for anyone wanting to become a teacher :) good work Katie!
Thank you so much! I’m enjoying sharing my thoughts through videos at the moment. Hopefully it’ll help other teachers!

For Teachers I worked with all years but mostly the year 1’s 🤗
Little ones! Scary! I’ve never taught that young. I bet it’s really fun though ☺️
Loving this advice. I put my kids in abc order in a seating arrangement so that helps me to remember their names :)
Great idea. I might try this next year! Thank you for sharing this for new teachers :)
Good Idea..

Best way to remember the children’s names quickly ( probably up to y3) - play who stole the cookie from the cookie jar
Amazing tips!!! Love them all
Thank you! I hope they’ll help new teachers in September. Is there anything you would add to the list?
Great advice in this video . 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you Hannah! Hopefully this answers some questions for new teachers. I appreciate you taking the time to check this video out :)
Hey, I'm only 16 but I wanna be a primary school teacher I quite enjoyed watching this x
Not long until you can do your teacher training! Message me if you have any questions at all along the way. Where are you from? ☺️
For Teachers I'm from the UK so I'm still doing my gcses in year 11 and I want to do A levels after this then teacher training
Let us know how we can support you and your journey ☺️☺️
For Teachers do you need any particular GCSEs or A levels to do teacher training?
what btec course can we take that could help me to be a teacher as i dont want to do a levels
Totally agree re: names for behaviour! Great advice.

I'm not too sure, but I know you can do a PGCE in early years. Did you find a solution to this in the end? Have a great 2019!
