This is years late, but I recently had this issue with an very well maintained 04 that I recently purchased. With the key in the ON position, pop the hood (leave door open) and pull fuse 40A (ignition relay), plug it back in after about 5 seconds and the ticking sound should stop and give you the "door ajar sound." Get back into the vehicle. Turn off and crank normally, it should start right up.
Your a star 🌟✴️. I just realised in need to put my Shogun 3.2 auto did in neutral to start it occasionally! I've just recoded the key fob central locking fine but tried to do another old fob and thought it was that.. NO - I just need neutral , as it does occasionally. 🙂. Happy man. Thanks
My pos.died too. When the alarm was keeping it from starting we just use the key fob/ key chain unlock button to disable the alarm. Learned that after replacing the battery miles away from the key fob.
I had this problem with my Montero. The fix was a yellow 20 fuse was blown. The fuse is not with the rest of them by the hood release pull tab. It is up further from the fuse box, hanging on a wire. If that fuse is not blown, I would bet the ignition switch is bad in the steering column. These switches are $30-$40 at O'Reillys and Autozone. This is very simple to change.
It's also a 1998 Montero Sport with my button in the exact same location. Do you know if it's a factory alarm or aftermarket alarm?Cause I thought mine was a factory alarm. So I contacted my local dealership by phone and they requested my last 8 digit of my Vin # to check if my Montero had a factory alarm. They researched called me back and said mine did not have a factory alarm. I was told that most 98 Monteros' that didn't come with factory alarms had them installed once they reached the port. So does the mean it's an aftermarket alarm?
hey guys I have a montero sport Ls 98 and just got the starter replaced but it still won't start but my light isn't blinking. when I try to start it there's just a click and nothing but when I jump start the starter I cuts on. do yall know a have any suggestions on what to do?
I noticed in your video at first the red LED button blinks at a steady pace. Then as you opened the door it started to blink rapidly. What cause the red LED light to change? What does the light blinking rapidly mean?
I watched this video over and over for the past day because the night prior this happened to me . Exact same problem but mine was fixed by two broken wires connecting from the security\GPS device dangling underneath steering wheel connecting to a black and yellow wire
it is not your starter. its actually the factory disabling system. once u mess with any of the electrical system and even the battery head. that car would not start and if in some cases it starts you would only drive for about a mile or less then it would go dead
sorry this may be coming late to you. put ur key in a start mode and while on start mode press and hold the button in till the doors locks open, lock and open then u let go. so you have to time it because its kinda fast. wat i do is watch the lock on the driver's side door, when it locks/open, locks/open @ the point it opens i let go of the red button. cheers
I'm having the same issue but a little different. As soon as I've connecting my battery terminals my alarm sounds off.(LOUD) and my red LED button is always blinking rapidly. Everytime I turn my key to start my alarm goes off again and again. Then the alarm stops sounding after a couple mins.
i have a 1997 montero sport alam issue you have to let it recharge itself my does it will start if not have it check out had everything check. alarm problem.
Its the code that you have to enter in the radio. Google radio codes for montero. Here are a few codes that I have found online.. one of them works 7132, 4323, 4712, 2283, 2537, 7104,3627, 6855... Have to wait an hour after every 3 failed tries. To get your car specific code get the serial number on the bottom of the radio (have to take it out) and go online to get the code.
Had that problem took the fuse to the alarm out then disconnected the plug from a little black box but at first it was my locks draining my battery. But try to find the fuse first
Hello guys, I need some help with my 2002 mitsubishi montero sport 3.5 4x4. The engine starts and keept running for 15 to 20 seconds and sundely stop. The mecanic that was working on it had replace the timing bell, water pump, water outlet gasket, thermostat, radiadator, cam/crank sensor, etc.... is this something related with the computer?
It sounds like the starter kill relay for the alarm. It should be wired in the stearing column. It is wired in the alarm and if you disconnect the alarm when it is in the non start mode, it will stay that way. Look for the alarm brain under the dash somewhere and follow the wire back to a relay. it should be the orange wire from the alarm brain. It looks like a viper alarm and if you find the brain it will tell you what model it is.
I had the same problem on my the this was the answer to fixing it you can't use a copy key you need the master key the engine doesn't recognize the key in the ignition as part of the anti theft installation the truck won't start unless it has master key. The engine was sound like it want to start but never will cause you are using the wrong key for proof Google your truck odb code 1610
is automatic, can be this something related with the key? the car was without batery for long time until I took it to repair, I have so many different opinions but most of them said that is something about the key sensor.
I HAVE A1997 MONTERO SPORT HAD TO PUT A NEW STARTER IN IT THE OLD ONE WAS NO GOOD. AFTER THAT RUN LIKE NEW . I HAD EVERYTHING CHECK.SO HAVE YOUR REPAIR GUY. CHECK IT
I have the same car, bad starter. Just replace the starter. Same thing happened to me several months ago. I replaced the starter and all is well. The starter was worn and would only start if the engine is hot.
It could be a few things, your fuel pump, your timing belt, a kill switch in the alarm, but most likely thats a sieze man, sorry. You hear that "clunk" noise when the engine tries to start? That's your engine trying to turn over. Check your oil and coolant to verify. But all is not lost. You can try to un-sieze your engine by removing the spark plugs, spraying a lubricant inside everyday for a couple weeks, taping the the sides of the engine with a hammer to get the lubricant inside the walls of the pistons, and using a breaker bar to turn the shaft. If it moves, you're in business. Add oil and trade it in right away.
I was not able to get it fixed. Its been sitting while I find a solution. If you find a solution, please let me know. Weird problem I just cnt find a solution to anywhere. If I knew what wires to cut...to remove this effing alarm I wld.
@@jessgraves6057 well on mine there is a box on the bottom of the steering wheel panels that has all the accessories for everything to work like the windows lock buttons well everything and I just cut the wires for the ignition or don't remember exactly what it was named it was just a connection with two wires but i cut that connection then plug them together and start back up

On my 2000. has a new battery and a new started and replaced the transmission and changed the oil and new Radiator and did a flush on the radiator. I opened the door to my truck and the alarm went off. I removed a fuse and it stopped the alarm. and I put back the fuse and tried to start it but not even the lights from the dash will turn on. I just hear the noise of the door being opened. WFT. so frustrated......any clue on what it can be? I put so much money in this crap.Help please.
ROSIE Avila Instead of taking the fuse out, when your alarm went off you are supposed to close the drivers door put the key in drivers door and unlock the car with that key,,, You put so much money because you can't fix it yourself, that's why you should NEVER buy used car unless you have garage-tools and little knowledge, buying new is the cheapest option for you..
Well, its too late to cry for fallen milk. What's done is done. Although, I was able to check all the fuses, and Yes... It was a fuse that wasn't working. The truck is running again. Doing good thus far...... Another question. Does anyone know why the light blinks from the transmission. Like if it was in the wrong gear. How do you fix that light on the dash board. Or how do you remove the 4x4 shift????
ROSIE Avila Is it transmission light or the 4x4 drive Indicator blinking? if its transmission light then most likely it's just over filled which causes constant overheating..

did you ever find out what was wrong with it
there is an alarm override button left side of steering wheel under the dash depress button while starting key it should start mine does
you need to press the fob unlock lock then unlock
or if you have power locks then press unlock lock then unlock
A starter did not think to check? Maybe he's dead ...
