Most people love the 1973 animated version of Charlotte's Web, but I like the 2006 live-action film version a lot more, because it's not only more faithful to the book, but it's also more sophisticated. It focuses more on the story, it has more heart to it, it has better execution, better character development, and it's much easier to relate to and much easier for adults to understand. It also doesn't copy the book as much as the 1973 animated version. I love how they changed the plot a little bit, but add more stuff to the film that was from the book. Even though I used to love the 1973 animated version as a kid, I nowadays feel like the musical numbers were a waste of time and didn't focus too much on the story, as well as being very cheesy. This is one of the perfect examples of a live-action remake being an improvement over the animated film.
It's actually not an unpopular opinion that the remake was better than the original movie. I remember when this movie was first released in 2006 (I saw it at the theatre), and it became an instant classic and, at least around where I live, people all but forgot thar the original movie existed. Whenever conversation came up about Charlotte's Web, it was almost without exception that the movie that would get mentioned would be the remake. The remake *was* "the movie." I didn't even find out until more recent years that there are a lot of people that still prefer the original movie. The debate is pretty evenly split on both sides. I grew up on the animated version in my early childhood and watched it many times, but I have to agree that the remake was by far the better movie.
