The fact that everybody’s going through such a strange time is slightly comforting. Even though I’m sad my life’s not what it used to be. At least we’re all going through it together and we have each others support. Thanks for the upload Jess ❤️

Your bookish videos are the best on youtube by far :) I love how there's always some books that you recommend that I've never heard before, you don't follow booktube trends, you do your own thing and you read everything from the most popular books to secret gems I've never heard of before, I love it.

I wonder if you'd ever be interested in doing some detailed videos about certain areas of literary theory. Like for example you've spoken before about the depiction of the city in literature but never in lots of detail? I find this kind of thing really interesting and am considering doing a literature masters, but find that it's really lacking on youtube and with your experience you're very qualified to do that sort of thing! Also with reading lists and things (almost like a university course lol) would be super cool for me.. but maybe I'm just a nerd idk hahahh

Zara Flores Although ad blocking extensions help to cut down the number of ads on browsers like Chrome, the same doesn’t apply if you’re using the RUclips app on your mobile device. I think the uploader has to toggle settings on their end to counteract the new RUclips ad policy (which is ridiculous), which is why I brought it up. I don’t mean to be critical of Jess, just wanted to flag it in case she wasn’t aware!

    Hi Jess!
I adore these book videos. Seasonal reading has never really occurred to me. But I'm excited to read along with you this season!
I have watched you for years and years - in fact I think one of the first videos I'd watched was you in your vamp days. (I also remember the Effy from Skins make up look you'd done)
I have always loved that despite your privilege, you have never shied away from acknowledging it and have thus successfully remained well grounded and relatable. ( albeit not necessarily the trips with GA :'D, but it's nice to sometimes live vicariously)
I understand that RUclips is a part of your living and that finances are a necessary part of it. I was a little at dismay today though due ads interrupting the video (without exaggeration) every 5 - 8 mins or so. I don't mind sponsored videos, or ads. I normally sit put through them. The amount of ads this vid, however, was a just a bit much.
This is not to put this vid on blast publicly. I wish YT had an option of giving feedback privately. I'd have chosen that option instead otherwise.
Any way, I did enjoy the book recommendations. These vids are never good for my pocket :'D
I also hope your mum is feeling better x

The Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House is amazing - so psychologically scary/traumatic and really delves into family relationships (I don't quite know how else to describe it) it is different from the book but I definitely thought it did the book justice! I tend to seasonally read mainly in autumn really and this year more than ever. I'm thinking of ending things had me intrigued/fully absorbed until the last 60 pages - so interested to hear what you think!

Fall/Halloween is pretty much the only thing I've been truly excited about for a long time. It gives us something to look forward to. I'll definitely be binge watching all of the spooky movies and reading all of the spooky books this month ! especially because I wasn't really in the mood last year (my dog passed away).. The haunting of hill house is a good book, but I loved the show even more. Watched it twice. They are two completely different stories and I highly recommend the show. It is a horror series, but it takes more root in "reality" than a lot of other shows in that genre. You have shows like American horror story, where they lean to much into the shock factor and horror side of things - making the character and plot to unrealistic to enjoy. Hill house is just as much about grief, family and sibling relations as it is about horror. They show different way people move on and cope after something horrible happens. The acting is amazing, and you can really tell that the people behind the show was really passionate about it. There are some amazing behind the scenes footage that shows the amount of work they put into it.

The Gormenghast Trilogy is on my wishlist! I've seen a handful of people mention it but not in a few years.
I read The Haunting of Hill House this past summer, as well as re-read Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived In The Castle. I love both but particularly Hill House! I love Jackson's writing and the subtext her stories have. I'm currently reading The Bird's Nest and finding it really interesting. I've noticed some similarities among the protagonists of these three novels, which I'd like to examine and explore more once I've finished The Bird's Nest.
I'm rereading Dracula and Rebecca this month! Ooh! I just read Fingersmith this past summer, too, and it's a new favorite book of mine!! Loved it! And I've now ordered a couple other novels of hers.
Wow, I was unaware how many books Jeff Vandermeer has.

Loved this! I'm not a huge horror fan either, so this was a great recs list. I would also recommend Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Blade Runner) by Philip K. Dick, it's so dark and gloomy I feel like it really suits the Autumn vibes more so than Winter. Exposure by Helen Dunmore also fits the vibe, it's a spy novel set in 1960s London during the cold war. And for a cosy Autumnal read I would definitely recommend The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers! Although I would read this one any time of year, I feel like the cosy ambience makes it great for reading under a blanket with a cup of tea or hot chocolate :)

Robert Louis Stevenson lived at one point a few streets away from where I live in Westbourne, Bournemouth - there’s a road named after him here. Staying with the spooky theme, Mary Shelley (who wrote Frankenstein) is buried close by too in the centre of Bournemouth.
Halfway through Piranesi from Susanna Clarke. I probably will finish it by tomorrow night. Waterstones have an limited edition with a extra chapter. I’ve seen some reviews that say it stays with you, some people haven’t stopped thinking about it. I can already tell I will be re-reading it by the end of the week. So much detail. 😍

Hi Jess, I remember from one of your recent vlogs, you'd found a bundle of your childhood books, would you consider doing a children's books recommendation video? I'm looking for good books for Christmas and birthdays for my family and friends little ones. Thanks😘

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I’ve been trying to find the video where you go through all your unread books before you went on your year book buying ban to rewatch and can’t find it. Could you or someone in the comments link it?
