Number one rule in firefighting is to protect lives and then property. The first thing they should have done is berricate the area and keep a safe distance themselves. There is a step by step procedure to identifying contents of a tanker, and how to approach such a scene.

All because the driver couldn't follow instructions. He was told to avoid low bridges but decided to ignore this and drove straight into a low bridge which compressed the gas tank and caused the explosion. Now the company needs to pay out for the drivers' negligence. And this idiot actually survived. He should without doubt be charged with murder. There must be justice. This appears to be a regular occurrence of late, workers and drivers have a total don't care attitude.

I am cancelling the cops, the metro cops, the RTMC, all SA Licensing Departments, all Emergency Services but especially the Fire and Ambulance services, the trucking company that employed a homicidal nincompoop as a gas tanker driver, said gas driver ( who survived and fled the scene apparently), the phone video-taking fools who, lacking basic common sense, ignored one guy's urgent warnings to MOVE AWAY FROM THE LEAKING GAS. I am angry and sad and cynical and the shocking journalism is really just the vrot cherry on top of this tragic steaming mess. God help us, South Africa
I am shocked at how incompetent the fire personal were. they is supposed to be hazmat trained. People should have been removed from the crash site immediately for at least 500meter radius. The firemen also should have stayed clear. the fire brigade is also to blame for the deaths and injuries.
The truck caught on fire & motorists were trying to douse the fire by using water that happened before the fire fighters even arrived. You are correct you cannot just use water on any gas fire but these motorist did not know this.
What a horrendous explosion at the heart of Boksburg, the 10 people who died trying to salvage the truck driver, ended up dead, with hundreds injured 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 prayers and thoughts are with the affected family members left behind, what a bleek Christmas for the affected people and family members left behind 💔💔💔💔💔
That is false. The truck driver got out as soon as the truck got stuck and called police/his supervisors and reported it. He also tried to close off the scene when someone in a car refuse and drove into the tunnel. Their car switched off( from the high oxygen levels) and the driver and another person tried to help this driver move his car out of the tunnel when the first explosion happened. They took him and the other two to hospital and then by then people started coming to see what exploded and burnig then the second explosion...
This explosion was fire and rescue fault they did not follow guidelines. Let's not forget that they sent one truck and did not make a safty zone for the public. Fire fighters should do the following: Fight fire from the maximum distance possible, or use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles. Cool containers by flooding them with large quantities of water until well after fire is out. Do not direct water at the source of leak or at safety devices; icing may occur. Leave the area immediately if you hear a rising sound from venting safety devices or see discoloration of the tank. For massive fires, use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles; if this is impossible, leave the area and let the fire burn. Be aware that when a BLEVE occurs, sections of the tank can fly in any direction. Just avoiding the ends of the tank should not be considered a safe operating procedure. Fire departments should do the following: Follow the OSHA regulations [29 CFR*1910.120 (q)]Emergency response to hazardous substance releases]. These regulations should be incorporated into fire department standard operating procedures (SOPs), which should be strictly enforced. Train first responders to be aware of the hazards associated with propane tank fires, including BLEVE.*CFR = Code of Federal Regulations Ensure that fire department code enforcement personnel adhere to the guidelines specified by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and NAERG96 for the evaluation and certification of propane tanks. For more information about safe fire fighting procedures for propane tank fires, see NAERG96 or contact the NFPA, the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), or the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA).
Tragedy beyond belief ... barricading should have been the ONLY thing that was being done by firemen The police were obviously not interested to come to the scene a mere 2 blocks away.
Again, Clearly stated by this lady this other lady was taking videos even posted it on her status!!! Why? Why? Why? Never ever go try film/ Watch a accident look now!!! More important than your own life is watching and filming.
The police on duty for this day at this station should be fired. This is unacceptable, one can never replace these lost lives...its a shame POLICE FORCE.
Those police could have died on the scene try to chase away onlookers who were refusing to leave the scene.A certain white gentle said he tried unsuccessfully to evacuate the people taking videos.
🤔 police wouldn't stop the truck from explotion even if they arrived on time, it's just people who failed to think for them selves. Or maybe you know what where you going to do why didn't you arrive on time so that you could safe the people?
But why did the police take up to half an hour to get to the scene whilst the nearest police station is apparently only 600m away from the scene of the explosion? Should have been there promptly to take control of the situation and get people away from the scene. In fact, they probably heard the explosion in the police station but continued with the nothingness they were doing at the time (probably sleeping).
The fact that the gentleman was thrown back from the distant that he was at is an indication that he too should have listened to his own advice to others and moved further away. Someone flying over his car and his son also being knocked further back into the car means neither were they safe - they escaped by a thread of luck too.
The reporter seams to have no sense of direction. We all have a fascination with death and injury. I suppose it is because it could have been us. So tragic. Condolences to the families that have lost loved ones. To the victims that have recoveries ahead of them. 😪 Shocking that it took police an hour to get to the scene. I feel faster action would have prevented at least some deaths.
There has been one witness that has said that trucks have regularly approached the bridge but have stopped and reversed back to go a different route , that is a regular SAT NAV occurance , sat nav does not even register a low bridge , sat nav , world wide are so short of safety peramiters , that is what caused this tragedy , trucks coliding with low bridges are , internationally quite a big occurance , with drivers and companies all using SAT NAV , world wide , all navigation systems need to be upgraded . Don't go near accidents for videos! Helping would be a different story... Condolences to the families. Hoping those injured heal well.
U know our people go make videos in life threatening situation. It's sad what has happened but it could have been prevented.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph be with these people. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
You left out God !!!😉😉😉
Really
@@truth-Hurts375 he mentioned GOD but unfortunately he added 2 humans along in his blessing.
What was graphic on this??
After this info, I feel like these people are narrating a scary movie. Yoh
Please Forgive Us For Our Sins Father
The SAP are fucking USLESS sorry to hear that bless the families that have lost their loved one GOD bless you
Where is the video
So tragic. Condolences to the families that have lost loved ones. To the victims that have recoveries ahead of them. 😪
Shocking that it took police an hour to get to the scene.
This goes for hand held nav enabled devices too .
The Height of the bridge isn't writting n this bridge is too small for the truck
Arrest Fikile Mbalula
Arrest him for what in this context?
For What Jeses
Wa gafa
It's a after shock
Hazardous substances should be transported by trains as before
Would if could but alas rail system has bn destroyed...
taking a video, why?
Oh, there was negligence alright. Unfortunately for the city of Boksburg, it came from just about every involved party EXCEPT the driver.
I have the video of the real footage, cant post it on youtube.
@@europarise2316 videos like those cost money

Condolences to the family's. God please be with them.
Looking at these fotos , that DRIVER new he was not going to fit nor go through there. DRIVER... DRIVER....Driver !!!
Judging from a Truck Driver's pont of view, I am one my self.
DRIVER......... Where was your F..............n mind ??
If there was no spectator value. All would be alive except maybe first responders. Blaming the driver for this tragic deaths also not totally fair towards the driver.
Ummmm well if he was not the driver then this would not have happened...
Ya so people always want to act clever and stand and watch so it's their own fault if u wana stand next to the flame u gona get burnt
We cant help u if u dnt have a heart...or compassion....
@@fin-rb3yz its has nothing to do with a heart it has everything to do with stupidity, south africans loot cash trucks that were exploded, they loot accident goods trucks on highways, they were probably waiting to loot this truck too. How can any fool with a brain not think its a gas tanker its on fire let's get away. So sorry for your heart issue this is what u cal uneducated failure to use logical sense
@@fin-rb3yz I'm sure Rasta has,,however if a tanker is ablaze one should know that an explosion is possible, most people do not think .
Here Jesus Christus,,,,ek dra elke persoon wat geraak is deur hierdie vreeslike ramp. Here mag hulle ontmoet het. Here Jesus verlig die wat in die hospitaal is se pyn. My husband has been saying this and it makes me so nervous
People can't think curiosity and just to take a video is it worth it noooo see how many people died because of videos 🛑 doing that people get out don't think of sensation
Change the name of the hospital you cant name hospitals and airports after a terrorist that signed off the Church str bombing that killed 17 and injured 217 its just bad karma
You're being silly this was a tanker explosion caused by negligence on the part of the driver.
@@Cookiestomybutt Seems like no one is to blame after all these in depth investigations and audits .....lets go back to the karma theory ....must have been that B8tCH

Here we go...now every Tom Dick and his Canary know how to handle situations like this !!!
Yep 🤦🏻♀️
If refer to Marcella.....
He is correct, my Dad was a Trained Trucker not just on paper..
Logics.... low bridge cargo gas any one with experience would never have attempted that...
Even to the untrained eye...
It's not about all knowing how to handle situations like this It's but preventing situations like this...
Train staff accordingly, especially when carrying such volatile substance .
Pure logic.
I wonder if the driver would have stopped even if there was a sign indicating the height...🧮📝📚
Probably not. Decided to "wurm" in there no matter what.
