I am certified in firefighting and Hazardous Materials Operation, I never got the job. Most firefighters never did firefighting and Hazmat, I know that for a fact.
Number one rule in firefighting is to protect lives and then property. The first thing they should have done is berricate the area and keep a safe distance themselves.
There is a step by step procedure to identifying contents of a tanker, and how to approach such a scene.

I'm also unhappy with how the first responders handled the scene. They should have identified what they are dealing with first and evacuated the place around the truck. Barricades should have been atleast 100m from the incident.
I'm sorry for the loss and hurt. 😟

All because the driver couldn't follow instructions. He was told to avoid low bridges but decided to ignore this and drove straight into a low bridge which compressed the gas tank and caused the explosion. Now the company needs to pay out for the drivers' negligence. And this idiot actually survived. He should without doubt be charged with murder. There must be justice. This appears to be a regular occurrence of late, workers and drivers have a total don't care attitude.

That is false. The truck driver got out as soon as the truck got stuck and called police/his supervisors and reported it. He also tried to close off the scene when someone in a car refuse and drove into the tunnel. Their car switched off( from the high oxygen levels) and the driver and another person tried to help this driver move his car out of the tunnel when the first explosion happened. They took him and the other two to hospital and then by then people started coming to see what exploded and burnig then the second explosion...

This explosion was fire and rescue fault they did not follow guidelines. Let's not forget that they sent one truck and did not make a safty zone for the public.
Fire fighters should do the following:
Fight fire from the maximum distance possible, or use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles.
Cool containers by flooding them with large quantities of water until well after fire is out.
Do not direct water at the source of leak or at safety devices; icing may occur.
Leave the area immediately if you hear a rising sound from venting safety devices or see discoloration of the tank.
For massive fires, use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles; if this is impossible, leave the area and let the fire burn.
Be aware that when a BLEVE occurs, sections of the tank can fly in any direction. Just avoiding the ends of the tank should not be considered a safe operating procedure.
Fire departments should do the following:
Follow the OSHA regulations [29 CFR*1910.120 (q)]Emergency response to hazardous substance releases]. These regulations should be incorporated into fire department standard operating procedures (SOPs), which should be strictly enforced.
Train first responders to be aware of the hazards associated with propane tank fires, including BLEVE.*CFR = Code of Federal Regulations
Ensure that fire department code enforcement personnel adhere to the guidelines specified by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and NAERG96 for the evaluation and certification of propane tanks.
For more information about safe fire fighting procedures for propane tank fires, see NAERG96 or contact the NFPA, the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), or the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA).

Fire: Protect property and people from further damage and mitigate the cost of damage
Abulance: Deal with the injured, working from most serious on arrival to least serious.
It is therefore up to the police to SECURE the scene at the instruction of the fire captain on scene. The fire captain should have said to the scene manager, extend perimeter and clear out the area - this is what they failed to do.

Signage clearly indicating the MAXIMUM clearance for vehicles intending to drive under that bridge. Warning signage, a flashing orange warning light. Close the road altogether. Train tanker drivers to international safety standards. Improve emergency services response times. Transport LPG by rail only. Ban trucks over a certain weight from using secondary roads. But all of this legislation does exist. This reckless, homicidal driver was breaking law the moment he got into the cab this morning.

There has been one witness that has said that trucks have regularly approached the bridge but have stopped and reversed back to go a different route , that is a regular SAT NAV occurance , sat nav does not even register a low bridge , sat nav , world wide are so short of safety peramiters , that is what caused this tragedy , trucks coliding with low bridges are , internationally quite a big occurance , with drivers and companies all using SAT NAV , world wide , all navigation systems need to be upgraded . This goes for hand held nav enabled devices too .
