I'm not one to comment on videos, but this one's the exception. I've never seen an instructional video that better captures flawless technique, energy and confident knowledge of the instrument. I haven't met Bobby, but we're distant relatives (O'Neil family). Need to find a way to get back to Texas..
He's just one of those guys that's has left the ordinary drummers behind. And he's a humble guy, met him after a fates warning concert in S.A. where the music was'nt clipping this time! Thanks God!
I love how this guy is getting more exposure because of the Dream Theater thing. Even if he doesn't get the gig for whatever reason, he deserves any exposure he can get. Truly a genius. In my opinion, he has the chops and skills of Virgil Donati, but the unique ability to make music with it that is both accessible and truly fun to listen to. One of my drumming idols.
The song is Peppered Cancer and it's from Bobby's instructional DVD. Later Ron Jarzombek added a few guitar parts, renamed it 'A Quick Affix', and put it on the Ink Compatible album (by the band Spastic Ink) as a bonus track.
man, i have no idea how metal drummers can keep up with 5/4 and 9/8 time signatures, and switch back and forth between them just like that....all i can do is 3/4 and 4/4 bobby jarzombek is more than just awesome
To answer sum of the questions here, bobby is a righty not lefty, but plays open handed, which basically means he uses his left hand on the hi hat. Sum of his cymbals are a bit close, but this allows for that lightning speed of his to be used wisely. If u watch n study him, u will see that evrything about his style is the most efficient way to play. by the way the name of the song is Peppered Cancer.
@CriminalOfNight You said, "Technical skill to me, can be measured. Although that would be what I believe technical skill to be. Someone may look at that differently." I agree, but I was referring to measurable/recognizable things like playing accuracy, melodic & rhythmic structure (types of chords, keys, time sigs, etc.), dynamics, etc. I was thinking of it the same way that aspects of certain Olympics sports are measured -- e.g., diving, gymnastics, figure skating, etc.
@neonblack88 I don't think this song is 'Peppered Cancer'. It is 'A Quick Affix', the bonus track off the Japanese release of 'Ink Compatible', the second Spastic Ink album. Both the Ink albums are clinics in technical and musical mastery.
I can't imagine if this guy filled the whole while Dream Theater was looking for a new drummer. All members of DT would probably take another step higher in musical career. I've heard about Jarzombek brothers yesterday...checked youtube...
Bobby is leagues ahead of Mangini. Mangini fanboys are the non musical "speed demon" idiots who prefer circus acts to actual high class musicianship that is the hallmark of drummers like Bobby, Danny Carey and Gavin Harrison. Mangini is a joke.
I can't agree more ! I saw Mangini during a clinic, he was the headliner, and it was booooring. Then they made a drum battle between him, Thomas Lang and Damien Schmitt... Mangini was so miserable, at the end this was only Lang vs Schmitt X)
Bobby Jarzombek was invited to audition for Dream Theater and he said no, I love Dream Theater and Bobby Jarzombek would have been a huge improvement for them.
so is he left or right handed? i know his toms are aligned like a right handed kit but he leads with his left hand (cymbal wise) and his fills start with either right or left hand. and i cant tell if his feet are leading with the left or right. it looks like a mixture.
@xph0enixxx hell yeah man, bobby uses his whole kit, hes not just one of those guys that has a bunch of stuff and only uses like maybe 5 of them, he also is amazing at timing, he probably came out of the womb with a metronome haha
@CriminalOfNight Not sure what you meant by the post re "might have misinterpreted." Can you clarify? What I meant was if you or anyone else is going to use the word "best" to describe a musical artist (which I personally don't do), those 'measures' would be the types of things to base such a declaration on (rather than emotion, for example).
@MrThundersteel Yeah, a lot of drummers have played barefooted. Rick Allen (Def Lepp) was doing that in 1979. So were Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) and Lars Ulrich (Metallica) in the mid-80s. Alex Van Halen too. Many others. I guess guys who do it feel they have a better connection with the pedal and thus maybe more control? I would think the metal pedal would put a lot of pressure on the bones & tendons in the foot, however, & maybe cause problems over time. But I dunno.
Check out Bobby on one of the finest thrash/speed albums of all time: RIOT - Privelage of Power. On it is also a brilliant version of "chasing the devil on a spanish highway".
he keeps his cymbals real close dont he? i tried that once and ended up hitting my fingers on them and making them bleed. i guess its whatever you are used to right?
Haha.. Everytime he looked at that closest cymbal to the camera - which filmed from his left side - I bet he was thinking "don't fail on me now, this is going to make me GOD"
I'm struggling to name a drummer better than Jarzombek....Absolute master of his profession.
Good to see a drummer who is totally involved in his music. He's a genius, what else to say?
This is about THE MOST Bad Ass performance I've ever seen! and I've seen many drummer's work. Bobby is a BEAST. Unreal.
Best left handed drummer I've seen so far. He's really fun to watch.
amazing and beyound words....awesome drummer..........

Really, a big drummer monster!! Amazing grooves, fabulous foot techniques!
He's just one of those guys that's has left the ordinary drummers behind. And he's a humble guy, met him after a fates warning concert in S.A. where the music was'nt clipping this time! Thanks God!
I can't watch this enough times... Amazing musician...
that is the most ridiculously insane drum set up i have ever seen.

Bobby Jarzonbek and Ronny Jarzonbek!!!
The song is Peppered Cancer and it's from Bobby's instructional DVD. Later Ron Jarzombek added a few guitar parts, renamed it 'A Quick Affix', and put it on the Ink Compatible album (by the band Spastic Ink) as a bonus track.
That's not drumming. That's a work of art.
8 people don't know what drumsticks are...
DAMNNN that was kick ass!!!!!! thumbs up for this man!!
24 people have not a clue. this guy is a MONSTER. Nuff Said.
man, i have no idea how metal drummers can keep up with 5/4 and 9/8 time signatures, and switch back and forth between them just like that....all i can do is 3/4 and 4/4
bobby jarzombek is more than just awesome

Bobby & his brother are out of this world.

A sadly underrated drummer not known by many compared to other drummers. It`s a damn shame!

he's style of drumming is very special but .. you can see that he is always compting it's nice
incredible technique !

i didn't know he drummed for them! awesome!
Holy fuck! The best god damn intro to a song ever... love the first five seconds!!
The best player of drum ....
a fellow san antonio drummer! he's also the master of stick twirling.
for those who say "why he was not invited to DT's audition" it's because Bobby is beyond DT's progressive ability.. thou i like then a lot xd
One guy tried to make cover of this song. He died in process.
I almost died just watching this
WOW, respect man!!!
The Fact that he has got cymbals behind him makes him own anybody

woo boo doo boo nieh zeeje nam preezes nasheego klubuu !!
Unbelievable!
im in love !
just insane!
This answers the age old question, "What if Ron Jarzombek had a brother that was equally as gnarly as him that played drums?"
@johnmon Are you playing drums to be the best or express yourself?
Animal!
@neonblack88 I don't think this song is 'Peppered Cancer'. It is 'A Quick Affix', the bonus track off the Japanese release of 'Ink Compatible', the second Spastic Ink album. Both the Ink albums are clinics in technical and musical mastery.

Romain MANCEL I haven't seen much of Lang, but his audition for DT was great. Had some really inventive takes on some of the songs.
Bobby Jarzombek was invited to audition for Dream Theater and he said no, I love Dream Theater and Bobby Jarzombek would have been a huge improvement for them.
Yes....this is complete!
@ACMetan I know can't believe the talent in both
He is very ... very ... rare !!!
wooooooooow!!!! machine-man
King!!!❤️
next dream theater drummer
God, what a beast.
He is so fucking amazing. A fantastic drummer!
i love his work on Demons and Wizards - Touched by the crimson king \m/
Awesome!!! what's the name of the band or the song??? great music, unbelievable drumming!!!
-Joey-
Giovani was his teacher a long time ago, he is an idol for jarzombek
so is he left or right handed? i know his toms are aligned like a right handed kit but he leads with his left hand (cymbal wise) and his fills start with either right or left hand. and i cant tell if his feet are leading with the left or right. it looks like a mixture.
... two cymbals BEHIND him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to se someone try to do a cover on this one! HA
@xph0enixxx hell yeah man, bobby uses his whole kit, hes not just one of those guys that has a bunch of stuff and only uses like maybe 5 of them, he also is amazing at timing, he probably came out of the womb with a metronome haha
If ron jarzombek does guitar in this, what band is it? Spastic inc, blotted science, watchtower?
@CriminalOfNight
Not sure what you meant by the post re "might have misinterpreted." Can you clarify?
What I meant was if you or anyone else is going to use the word "best" to describe a musical artist (which I personally don't do), those 'measures' would be the types of things to base such a declaration on (rather than emotion, for example).
@dilby001 That's his brother Ron Jarzombek, check out some of his projects Blotted Science and Spastic Ink. Amazing guitarist.
can anyone tell me the name of this song?? artist?
@MrThundersteel
Yeah, a lot of drummers have played barefooted. Rick Allen (Def Lepp) was doing that in 1979. So were Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) and Lars Ulrich (Metallica) in the mid-80s. Alex Van Halen too. Many others.

Look up Spastic Ink, a three man combo Bobby did with his brother and another guy, bas player. They had a couple albums.
Somebody can say me what theme is this?
@semiLivedj yes I'm with the same idea! just saying he's groovin on his own way and I respect that!
dude no one is...simply!! : )
@mikeybbdrummin let me just say to you, very well put.
Finally.... another drummer who plays bare foot!
Check out Bobby on one of the finest thrash/speed albums of all time:
RIOT - Privelage of Power.
On it is also a brilliant version of "chasing the devil on a spanish highway".
ascoltavo gli spastic ink più di 10 anni fa...anche ora sono incredibili per me
y the crash behind you? just wondering
ohhh yess!!!! yess yes yess yes!!.. perfect fit for Dream Theater!!!!!
Listen to Shine on live album from RIOT, he is locked in with the bass super tight. This is just him doing prog. Bobby can groove too lol.
@Ken5244 I think what he plays goes good with the music. Im curious as to who you think are some truly accomplished drummers.
That would be his brother Ron. Both of them have some serious skills. Check out some of their earlier stuff. Their band is called "Spastic Ink"
Wow!
@imafreak360 i agree. they are robot monsters. hehe
Thanx Bobby for charging my batteries for next day! \m/
he keeps his cymbals real close dont he? i tried that once and ended up hitting my fingers on them and making them bleed.
i guess its whatever you are used to right?
can someone tell me where this music is from? is it something Ron did?
You seem to forget that Watchtower and Spastik Ink is ridiculously technical on all levels. The point is that there is no holding back.
He's playing drums on Sebastian Bach last album. This guy is amazing!
Haha.. Everytime he looked at that closest cymbal to the camera - which filmed from his left side - I bet he was thinking "don't fail on me now, this is going to make me GOD"
some drummers just have large kits because it looks cool, but bobby on the other hand, he actually use the whole kit (Y)
Bobby is tha man
@KillerDrummer88
29/16! that's insane.....i had no idea there was such thing!
thnx!!!
amen 2 that!!!!!!!!!!!!
