2. Pokemon Affection is a good thing. It rewards bonding with Pokemon instead of treating them like objects. The NPCs should simply have it too. The rest. I Agree
I actually had the opposite experience my pokemon were more 10 levels above the gym leaders ace and I have no idea why im guessing its because I catch alot of pokemon but it kinda ruined half the gyms for me because they all got one shot!
My main issue is definitely "faithful remake", but more so for cutscenes and the unnatural square movements and in Grand Undeground Hideout areas i get stuck on the layouts sometimes because it's "half square, half not" layouts It was fine for DS but completely unnecessary for Switch
I agree that the games are too faithful I wanted to use gliscor on a team but even the item placement is faithful to the original games and the razor fang is in the battle park
i think you hit the nail on the head with the last one. no one wanted a 1:1 remake. we wanted a sinnoh remake with platinum features ala HGSS. like for example the team galactic building in eterna city sucks. it would not have altered the story to make it look like the one in platinum...
@@--julian_ I quite liked the interior. But the ugly spaceship design was so loud for the small quaint town - I get that it’s the point, team galactic is loud, I just like it plain.
My biggest problems with the games: - When learning a new move, pressing the b button just doesn't do anything - Moving around can be a pain. Both with the dpad and the joystick, I bump into stuff, can't enter doors, etc - Affinity is annoying. Even if we ignored the crits and stuff, the extra text box every single turn gets old real fast Other than that I've been having a lot of fun with them. It would have been nice to see Looker and the distortion world again tho
The biggest thing I’m actually upset by is that they didn’t include the crogunk photo op standee out side of the great mash. I was genuinely disappointed by that not being included
It might be a minor thing, but that’s just senseless. It reminds me of when the Diamondbacks came under new ownership in the mid 2000s. They started removing little details that made the team and the stadium stand out, simply because they could. Those purple, turquoise, and bronze uniforms that were a wonderful reflection of the southwest and looked nothing like anything the other teams were wearing? Replaced with red, like at least every third MLB team has. The natural grass in the outfield, the first for a stadium with a retractable roof? Watering that’s too expensive, let’s tear it up and put in artificial turf. How about the path from the mound to home plate, an old-fashioned feature that only one other MLB stadium had at the time? They covered it up with more artificial turf. The list goes on. Some changes had practical reasons, but most of them just seemed like the new owners were pissing all over what was already there to mark their territory.
yeah the fact that they didn't implement a lot of the Platinum changes is pretty inexcusable imo. Most of those changes were extremely necessary and unequivocally improvements to the base game, I don't think anyone would've complained if they had implemented those. Seems like a lack of care or understanding of the source material to ignore such incredible upgrades. Agree about the EXP Share too, I'd even just appreciate a toggle for instances where it feels like my team is getting a bit too overleveled and id like to slow that down. for now my fix has been to just swap out the Pokemon that are getting too strong with weaker ones I'd also like to use or that have type advantages to future gyms, adds some elements of variety and challenge to the game. I've enjoyed these games a ton for what they are though. I can complain but at the end of the day I'm reasonably satisfied with what we got!
I agree on the whole Too Faithful con. In the last two remakes they've included features from third installations which made the remakes far more interesting. The Platinum Dex is one thing they should have kept in the game along with Move Tutors.
Remakes are supposed to add new content like HGSS and ORAS did, but BDSP feels rushed and having the wrong priorities.. They are supposed the feel like the generation they are in, but set in a different region. FRLG, HGSS and ORAS all accomplished this
The issue with affection is that they combined it with happiness, and since your pokemon just gain happiness by traveling with you, their affection is constantly going up. Thats why people have been giving pokemon bitter medicine/herbs in speed/challenge runs
Some things I would have liked is that they should have made changing outfits possible earlier, and also so you could have your Pokémon waking after you after like the first gym :)
Foreal bro. It’s like they try to push the adult fanbase away that’s been faithful. They’d make even more money if they would just listen to 25% of what the community asks for!
I want to see that for Gym Leaders. How awesome would a game be where you could take on the gyms in different orders? (but not so poorly done it has to be changed in the next game)
Isn't that the key item that let you re-battle trainers (I forgot the item's name & which game it was in). Would have been great if they put that as a game staple even
We've seen 3 generations get remakes before in the past two decades, and every time a remake came it was different by generally having improvements and additions to the original games. So ofcourse we were expecting this one to be more than just a stylized one for one remake, the improvements and changes are why we wanted this remake so bad to start with. The old game but new graphics, pokemon abilities, new areas to explore, new Olympic minigames to play, new wild encounter mechanics, the best of the 3rd version additions in the original game. It's infuriating to see a remake released that basically has less features than the original in every catagory, even though this game is on better hardware.
From what I've seen, the most disappointing thing is not adopting some of the upgrades from platinum. Never played platinum fully as I don't own it but what I played seemed a lot of fun!
From someone who played Pearl and Platinum during his prime time(my favourite gen!): It's actually sad because platinum content could have been easily incorporated while keeping some pearl/diamond characteristics e.g. edition only Pokémon... The worst are the items available or the movepool(Platinum had much more moves availabe!)
@@-_MR666_- Mmm, sounds like a bummer. I always had a problem with team building as there wasn't a lot of choice (Sinnoh pokemon wise). Well, I might get to play it soon as a friend said I could have it. I just have to remind him about it! 😅
These games should’ve been the graphics and gameplay of Sword and Shield in the Sinnoh region. Anything less than that was worse than nothing at all, because now it’ll be decades (if ever) before we get a proper Diamond and Pearl remake
When I was fighting cynthia her milotic burned my machamp with scald, I was so happy because my machamp has guts. But then my machamp cured itself and I was furious.
The experience share should have been optional after eterna city. The professor's aide who give you it in the original, instead of giving you a rare candy upgrades your option settings to allow you turn it off and on.
I agree with the elements they removed that were introduced in Platinum. I was looking forward to a game with Garchomp and Eletivire. And instead they locked gibble behind the need of strength again, and they let you have elekid BUT there is only a 5% chance of them holding the evolution item. While every game since Platinum you can just find that item somewhere in the game, not on a Pokémon. Also don’t like how the Pokémon follow you, it doesn’t make sense that my Murkrow can’t keep up with my 10 year old character while he runs lol
I finally just evolved my Electabuzz but it seriously took me a few hours of running around dazzling cave and fighting elekids using thief, just to get that stupid evolution item lmao
I just wish theyd get rid of trade evolutions in general. Why should I have to trade my pokemon to somebody to evolve it when they could do something like have them level up once while they're holding said evolution item. Seems so archaic considering they've changed everything else in the games
I'm currently on badge 6 heading for snowpoint and re: point 5. The grand underground for me is one of the best bits of the game, and has added to team diversity, but I feel it could've added more as fire, grass, fairy & ground felt a bit under-represented, and adding early on Brelloom, Numel, Snubull & Phanphy for example would've helped give options.
I agree that some other options would’ve been nice, or at least make the evolutions of what’s in the underground accessible before post game, but keep in mind the underground exclusive Pokémon were a part of the platinum expansion of the pokedex.
The “being too faithful” is why I’m upset a little about BDSP! I really REALLY wanted to use Pokémon like Rotom, Froslass & Togekiss for my play-through, but when I realised that the Pokédex lacked many of the new Sinnoh Pokémon, I was disappointed. Like seriously, the Diamond & Pearl Pokédex was so bad, why did they go back to that in this game?! Why bring back the terrible teams for Candice, Volkner & Flint?! And what’s worse, they showed Pokémon like Porygon Z, Yanmega, Leafeon & Glaceon, you know, the new Sinnoh evolutions, in the trailers, like “Oh yeah, these new evolutions will also be here!”, but they’re not available until post-game, so you basically lied about what the game has! Overall, I still like the game, but I can’t fully love it because of “being faithful” & the massive lack of Platinum content. It makes me hope that we potentially get a Platinum remake soon, but I highly doubt it!
I personally feel like they did Luxray really dirty by returning to Diamond and Pearl. He has almost no physical electric moves other than Spark for basically the whole game. No access to thunderfang or the other elemental fang moves outside of Bite and Crunch. Also I was thinking, why did Volkner not have a rotom in the original games, it is such a good way to show case it as well as a form or two. Mow straight up would have ruined my strategy for that gym and Heat could have gone to Flint, giving him a third fire type over the dumb blimp (it is very frustrating to fight that thing! Otherwise, I really like it.).
Evolution items, too. Specifically the Razor Fang. I want my Gligar to be a Gliscor. But it's locked in post game, unlike Platinum, which you could get one a TON earlier.
I was wanting to use a Leafeon and a Yanmega in my Brilliant Diamond playthrough and was really disappointed when I found out that I couldn't. Really hoping that I get to use them in Legends Arceus.
I wanted to use an Umbreon on my team since it's my all time favorite pokemon. I was extremely bummed when I found out i couldnt use one. Why is eevee till post game when I'm finding pretty much useless baby pokemon in the underground? It's so dumb
Things I would change: 1. Gym battles would have set levels. Player Pokémon would be level set to the gym leader, stat-wise, for a balanced fight. 2. Wifi is still a bit spotty with online trading and battles. The fact that you can’t directly connect to people on your friend list is silly. 3. You can’t bury/farm spheres underground, which makes collecting them much more tedious. There’s also no furniture to spend them on. 4. Breakable TMs are still just an inconvenience, as is finding heart scales to relearn moves. With the exp share as it is and remote box access, the game encourages you to switch up your team often and train more than 6 pokemon if you’re not looking to just steamroll through. SW/SH solved this, and it was great. 5. Platinum was just better. I wouldn’t even be mad if we got a “Pure Platinum” remake in this style that fixed a lot of user gripes.
My only problem so far is the cutscene. The characters still moving awkwardly in 4 directions instead of omnidirectional is kinda weird, especially when the player can do it.
My issue is the chibi's look so unemotional like when Barry bumps in to you they could have actually been animated in to bumping in to you, that's harder to do with pixels so it being said in text is fine, but these are 3d animated mini models, it should be able to to that. More animation and expressions please, no dead eyed looks. Also Barry looks like he's skating when he runs. The game looks pretty nice but they needed to work on the human models chibi and not. And I'm just annoyed the Platinum content wasn't included. I pretty much agree with everything else you said in the video.
All of the above. I'm taking my time with the game, but I feel that last point like a buzzing mosquito even as I only just got to Solaceon Town. It's like a story that would be amazing if only the author rearranged events just a smidge. I'm enjoying the game, but I'm already making a list of -mon's I want to breed for my next game so I can have them in a timely manner.
I agree with being too faithful. I was looking forward to getting eevee for my journey, but to find out it’s endgame was heartbreaking. Don’t spend much time in the underground compared to the originals as I feel there’s less to do with it - mainly base decorating. It’s lacking personality
I'm totally with you on the Underground. They had a chance to deliver an Animal Crossing type experience as a minigame within Pokemon and I'm definitely disappointed they left out so much of what made the Underground special in the originals (customizations, traps, CTF). Hopefully that will all come in a massive DLC.
I haven't actually played bdsp yet, but from watching some playthroughs, I suspect that they've finally tied the friendship and affection mechanic into one thing. Friendship was introduced in yellow only for your Pikachu and was upgraded to be for all Pokémon in gen 2, but has basically been useless other than affecting the power of return and frustration, so I think actually giving it a use was a really clever idea _in theory_ but I definitely agree that they've implemented it very badly
I'm a contest Coordinator that competed back in Gen 4, so all my complaints involved the contests changes: - Poffin making shouldn't be restricted to the joysticks. The switches have touch screens, give us the touch screen stir functions like in the original - The requirements to unlocking the shining contest shouldn't be restricted to ONE pokemon. Its really hard to get even a single pokemon with max traits in all catagories via poffins. I think its more realistic if you make it apply to beating it in general. - it feels more RNG to succeed in a contest, I can't figure out how to pass it on my own even if I do well dancing.
I'm very upset about the secret bases not feeling personal and cozy anymore, especially regarding the absence of the gifted Villa in the Resort Area. With new graphics and some changes to make it more individual that would have been a great addition to the games.
The statues in your secret base increases the type of spawns in the underground, but I did hear that affection is coded wrong it has no cap & continues to increase all the time
@@zekrom916 I don’t disagree with you. Or at the very least, the percentage chance should be lower. If it only happens like 3% of the time or something, then that’s an absolutely amazing thing. If it’s happening every other battle, then it’s not good.
Experience sharing should be an option, whether you can change it from the beginning or have to beat the game once. In my case though, I did beat every trainer I came across, even searching some routes/caves for an hour or so, and the Gyms were quite the challenge, and I'm still kinda stuck at the Champion battle (almost through). When it comes to the friendship stuff, I feel like it rarely triggers for me. Though, battles can definitely become quite long and tedious.
Walking around with the stick feels so clunky in narrow areas and bike is pretty much unusable imo. But even using the buttons to walk around like in the originals feels way worse bc it's way less responsive. Plus I noticed that sometimes in the Grad Underground the digging spots aren't aligned to the grid of the button pathing, making it impossible to access some digging spots. Not a big deal by any means but imo it shows that the games were at least s bit rushed.
One thing that majorly pissed me off was the lack of trainer customisation. Look, I'm fine with working with styles, but if I had know I couldn't change my hair colour, I wouldn't have picked the trainer with lightest skin and blonde hair
The lack of platinum changes really put me off wanting to get SDBP which is such a shame as I would love to experience Sinnoh in a new art style. Don't know how the devs didn't recognise what made Platinum the superior version of the trilogy. Oh well, still got Legends Arceus to look forward to at least!
I feel like BDSP is a stepping stone for an eventual official "Pokémon Maker". It looks like a maker game, it was made in Unity (easy to reverse engineer) on a "tiled grid" where it would be easy to select and lift terrain (like an:nh). Every npc shares the same chibi body, so imagine a system where you can change the face, hair, clothes, color of npc and if you don't want to bother with that (or if certain assets aren't caried over), you already have the gen 4 looking trainer classes! They also removed pixel pokémon sprites, tho this probably was to future-proof their games, no longer having to draw sprites for pokémons, to would also allow them to import future pokémon (heck, even in past generations, starting with bdsp) a lot easier. The main thing that tipped me off is the lack of collision on the water, as if anything could be layered onto it no matter what and the water it it's own separate layer. Also, the main reason I think Pokémon hasn't cracked down on Pokémon Essencial is because it's stuck on rpg maker xp and will never be able to make the jump to 3D (There has been multiple attempt to make a Pokéessencial for RPMMV, all have failed), so there is a market for this where multiple people will buy it for it. Edit: It would also explain Pokémon's crackdown on Pixelmon, not only because of Pokémon Legends, but also for the ability to "make your own adventure"
My biggest criticism are in no particular order - 1) No toggleable exp share. Yeah, you team will balance itself out by the end of the game but that's the end of the game. you are basically 10 or even more levels higher than even the gym leaders. 2) Really awkward movement. The d-pad movement just snaps you to a grid and it just feels very clunky. Analog stick movement feels smoother but you just get stuck in places because the game was designed with that grid in mind. Bike movement is awful. it's like walking movement clunkyness cranked up to 10. 3) Ignoring Platinum. I can't imagine just how many times i thought, " Man, this was this way in Platinum. This area just looked nicer. You could find this really nice item here. This trainer has way better team etc" while playing the game. The better team from Platinum could have also helped with the level curve. Easily the biggest folly of BDSP. 4) This is just gen 8 changes carrying over to Platinum but certain mons like budew is just outright bad now. I also realized that Shellos doesn't get mud bomb at all in gen 8. Honchkrow also doesn't get Drill peck or Heat wave. 5) The chibi cutscenes. The style is fine when you have the same top down view but then they zoom in and dont even bother to give characters lip movement and gestures. They stand there like your Sun and Moon avatar. Cyrus has some nice animation when you get the big scenes on Mount Coronet. 6) This is probably one of the biggest main series games in quite a long time. It is nostalgic, for better or worse. I actually did the sunnyshore skip and beat volkner before doing the whole team galactic arc. So, that was pretty neat.
We know there's some coding errors within these games, there's a chance that the affection meter was also done in error. Maybe a future update that fixes this programing mistakes will be out very soon.
We shouldn't have to wait for these updates, if they even do them. The highest profit franchise on the planet should release complete, quality controlled games upon release. It's ridiculous.
I like the exp share, it’s really gonna help keep my un-evolved Pokémon powerful enough to take down fully evolved Pokémon. I don’t understand why it can’t be turned off though.
#2 Affection THIS ONE I AGREE WITH. I even tried buying some bitter herbs to try and lower my affection but it was way too convoluted.... we need to be able to turn off affection in the settings, because it's pretty annoying xD
I have a lot of problems with these games. Some examples are the following. I don’t see the purpose of these games. I’m not a fan of the ”faithful remake” idea. The previous remakes let you see the regions in a new light, but these are the same and (in my opinion) look worse. I love the Link’s awakening style but this just looks cheap. Gen 4 has one of the most dramatic stories in the series and the chibi style kinda takes away some of the impact of the big moments, while a remake in the style of ORAS would enhance them. And also the lack of extra content in the style of the Delta episode is just sad. Why remake Diamond and Pearl and remove the big enhancements from Platinum?!? I want to use all the cool Gen 4 pokémon that for some reason they made inaccesible during the main game. (Rotom and Togekiss are my second and third favorite pokémon so that may have influenced this opinion) Like you mentioned in the video, I would also like a toggleable EXP share. I think they should make the remakes harder for the older fans while keeping the new ones on the easier side. The whole idea of a remake is to appease older fans so maybe throw them a bone. I would really love to see a hard mode in a Pokémon game again, but at this point that’s such a farfetched idea. In short, I don’t like these games and they should’ve put the entire budget into Legends Arceus.
I agree, these games are just a disappointment. They gave us a crappy remaster instead of a proper remake. Game freak needs to learn how to listen to fans.
I haven't gotten the game, but I do see where you're coming from. A difficulty setting would be greatly appreciated, and I've played on set mode ever since I figured out what it was, and it gives that extra crispy challenge. But a newer and better one would definitely make the games better for a lot of players
Honestly the fact that some parts of the game got so much care and others didn't, kinda makes me think ILCA might not have been given enough time to finish the game and I think if they were allowed 2 or 3 months more dev time they could have smoothed over a lot of the issues people have with the game.
Honestly I feel that even though they were developed by an outside studio, they still ended up rushed. Hopefully we'll see patches soon to correct a number of flaws. For instance, I feel like the first wild encounter on a route always hangs for a couple seconds before starting. It makes me think for a moment my controls glitched until I remember.
There are like 3 different but similar cloning glitches and a way to go out of bounds and go get shaymin or visit newmoon island (no darkrai tho). This gives me mixed feelings because while early glitches (mew glitch specifically) helped make pokemon what it is today, it is 2021. We expect and deserve more polish.
At first I really hated the limited pokedex and team options until I figured out the rare underground spawns that really help with team options! LETSSSS GOOOOOOOO SIINNNNOOOHHHHH!!!
On point 4...I 100% agree. I loved the secret bases. When I got my drill inn BD I was excited to find the most interesting room...And all I got was a bland room where I could only place statues to increase odds for a single type rare pokemon in the underground. I mean the mission of finding someone else's base feels pointless because all it is now is seeing what statues they have. No, "Oh that item looks cool, I want that in my base." or "Whoa, you have to do this in battles against other trainers? Guess I'll have to give that a go." I loved the underground in Diamond back in the day, but back then I didn't play with others so I didn't get to enjoy as much.
Ya know, it would have been really cool to explore to distortion world to get Giratina origin forme in the post game. But no...they gave us a cool looking boss room instead. Oh and we still have the same horrible, Pokémon following but getting lost like Tails on p2 garbage from SS DLC. Let's Go did that mechanic so much better.
My main problem is that keeping it too faithfull doesn't made sense with some of the additional content they added. You add the underground and add more Pokémon options, but yeah like you already said, why not more Platinum changes like Rotom. They added the Fairy Type, Fairy Type TMs, but why not add Sylveon as little bonus, it was the poster child for the Pokémon Ami feature in X&Y, it would have been cool if they tied it's evolution method to the Amity Square in these particular games or whatever. It is the only cross gen evolution since Gen IV, all other evolutions are regional form evolutions. Like I really enjoy the games, but I would have traded more Platinum changes and a post-game distortion world saga for Ramanas Park. But it is what it is. The games are nice.
HOW or why did they not think of giving an option to deactivate the exp-share??? They included NDS-Sounds but a simple switch in the setting to turn on/off exp-share was too much? I don’t get it, this would have made the game so much more inclusive for different playstyles. Same for affection affecting battle. It’s just sad that these are the Remakes everyone has been waiting for but they couldn’t take the time to code such a simple feature.
I don't see the point in buying these when they never changed anything, it's really sad because when i first heard about them i was expecting another oras which i loved but they are literally just diamond and pearl but with slightly better graphics and music
The disconnect between chibi overworld and more realistic battles seems like *more* work, because it requires additional modeling and rigging. I really enjoyed the visuals in LGPE, because they were consistently nice to look at. The following pokemon was done better then too. LGPE really needs more love in the fan base. BDSP really underscores that.
I think my biggest complaint is that they're Diamond and Pearl remakes, not Platinum remakes. The extended PokéDex, the updated gyms, the move tutors, etc..
I had no idea all the platinum evolutions were locked in post game. I think that’s the deciding factor that I’m not getting this game. Good job Pokémon you finally made a main series game I’m not getting
One thing that bothered me as well is the implementation of the Poketch. Some apps, like the Dowsing Machine, were rather fun and easy to use on the DS, but may as well be entirely useless in BDSP since you not only need to move a cursor to use it (if you're Docked), you also have to cover the screen to access it, to then minimise it to then collect things. Not to mention, the fact that the Poketch doesn't support touch inputs when in the mini-mode in the corner makes it worse. If a Handheld player could tap and control the Poketch while it was in the corner, it'd be so much more useful overall. Kudos to ILCA for actually making use of the touchscreen at all though, I was surprised to see it, especially since the touch screen is often ignored in Nintendo games...
The fact they give you Sneasel and Gligar but not the Razor fang and claw infuriates me. I so wanted to use a Weavile on my team but apparently somebody thought it was a fun idea to put it on the route only accessible after the league.
I kind of enjoy seeing the league using actual strategic movesets. That's something we should see more often, even with gym leaders to teach strategies to the player. Of course it is kind of difficult to balance, since you need to know if the player will have access to a team that can defeat that leader etc etc. That's where a restricted regional dex can be useful. Less pokemon for easier balancing of the challenge. I hope future games (remake and future gens) go a bit more in that direction too, I'd even support a limited in-game roster of like 200 or 250 pokemon tops if it allows for the game to be balanced around what you have available to provide a cool challenge, while always giving you the means to push through for younger players.
Limited roster is fine. I do like how Black and White limited the main game to the new Pokémon, with many of those Pokémon having different strategies than the earlier ones, so you needed to adapt to it. That part is fine. Diamond and Pearl sadly…
I would've loved to at least have the reworked item locations from platinum into the game. So many important items are now locked to the postgame, making certain mons unusable until then (unless your friend is willing to give you one)
Definitely agree experience share being forced is frustrating. Also there's some smaller things that just make no sense, like why does a wild Bidoof help me out with rocks when I taught Geodude (that is in my party) Rock smash????
I agree affection was busted. My electivire cured it's poison 4 times in one battle and what if I want the status condition for guts or poison heal etc.
Pokemon Amie/Refresh/Camp/whatever they decide to call it has been broken since it became a thing and it's unfortunate because getting to interact with your pokemon with petting or games is a cool idea, but you really can't allow it in your playthroughs because it's too OP. The fact that it seems it's not even avoidable in BDSP is one of the most frustrating things I could hear at this point about the game. The rest of what I've heard my opinion has been "oh, that stinks, but at least the game's better than the original in other ways and that fact just keeps the game the same as the original so it's kind of just meh," but this makes the originals start to look objectively better and that's a shame. Also, RIP Underground. I wouldn't mess around with it too much these days, but it was a cool mechanic that built upon Hoenn's Secret Bases in quite a funny and satisfying way.
I've got to say I agree with all the points mentioned here, Toby. And while I was a bit uncertain about the chibi style at first, the moment I began my own playthrough of Brilliant Diamond, I realized something. The chibi style used in BDSP is super familiar to me, and not just because it's a chibi style. The particular style of chibi used in BDSP is, to me, very similar to the style used in the Wii game "My Sims", which I absolutely loved and played so much I actually burnt out the disc reader of my Wii. I'd love to see a main-line Pokemon game done entirely in this chibi style, with New Snap style Pokemon graphics (I love the giant Meganium!)
Exp share should be togglable, the idea of a hidden mechanism existing sounds fun, like a secret option :) I'd love to be slightly more underleveled for battles ... Also, I love to befriend my mons but don't like the fact that it's so OP it's terrible😅
I have *got* to agree with you on point four, at the very least. I love most of the features of the Grand Underground, but the fact that your 'Secret Base' is just a glorified trophy room now is honestly rather depressing. That was probably my favorite part of the Underground back in the day, playing Capture the Flag with my brother and setting traps for each other. I managed to spend 100 hours in the original Diamond and only had 7 badges because I spent that much time in the Underground. To see your base reduced to that was a major let down, honestly. That's probably my biggest issue with the games currently, but not my only one. On other points that were mentioned here, I actually have overleveled a bit and am currently trying to avoid trainers to bring my levels a bit closer to where I feel they should be for my point in the game. A toggle for Exp. All to be on or off would be most appreciated for me, since that would also allow me to focus more on new Pokémon I want to bring in and funnel experience into, without overleveling further. And finally, I really was hoping to see more QoL's from Platinum in. Like, Diamond and Pearl were fine on their own, but Platinum was the beautiful capstone and polish Gen 4 really needed to shine. It brought more Pokémon in for Gym Leaders/certain E4 members to really feel like a master of their type, and the extra story beats with Giratina and a slice of the Distortion World was incredible. I did spoil myself on certain things, but I would have liked to see a proper story line, at the very least, in the vein of Rayquaza in ORAS, having its own little story chapter post game. Honestly, overall, this has been a pretty solid remaster, and if you haven't experienced Sinnoh at all, this is certainly not a bad place to jump into the region. Considering this was ILCA's first game, I can understand why they might have been conservative, but I would have rather had something closer to a remake than a remaster, throwing in more Platinum strokes like the previous remakes did with their generational capstone game, or at least more nods to it than BDSP got, with just the mere outfit download. Sorry if this was long winded, and thanks for reading of you got this far.
I like the game but I wish there were more things in it such as adding some platinum things in the game like getting evolution items before postgame instead of postgame like Gligar for example, adding eevee in the main story instead of waiting til postgame to get it, and using a tm that are unlimited like in BW instead of the tm being limited. I felt like some missed potential they could of done was a post story for Giratina like the Delta episode in ORAS and adding some characters that were in Platinum like Looker where he was first introduced in the games
I definitely think that the games were too faithful. I wish that they would’ve added a platinum episode similar to what they did in ORAS for Rayquaza for Giratina.
One thing that's kinda annoyed me a little bit so far while playing is that the trainers say on a route next to a city where you beat a gym the trainers there are weaklings. Like I just beat gardenia and the trainers next to eterna city have lower level pokemon than she did and I dont understand why
One of my issues that wasnt mentioned (and honestly isnt super important) is that Barry seems so much slower. Where's the 2x running speed? Where's the bouncing from excitement because he just can't sit still? He seems so much slower now and not quite like Barry. Again not a huge deal but still.
Honestly, I'm okay with not having the National Dex pokemon until after the Sinnoh dex, but we should at least be able to use all of the Sinnoh pokemon! I wanted a Gliscor on my team, but I didn't get him until after beating Cynthia because the item isn't available until then. Like what?! At the very least they should have made the evolution items available in the Grand Underground through digging or as a held item from the rare spawns or something.
I wish they had met in the middle between platinum and diamond and pearl and made the game and all around newer sinnoh experience instead of copy paste
I totally agree with the affection thing. There were far too many times in a major battle that I randomly dodged a move, got a crit, or survived a hit that made the battle way too easy. I wish you could turn that feature off
Tbh, ill die on this hill, exp share not being there doesn't make the game harder, it makes it more annoying. I've always felt this. Needing to level up for a boss isn't difficult, its annoying.
Agreed completely. EDIT: However, I think a simple toggle in the inventory to be able to turn it off would have been a nice way to pacify those who disagree.
the issue isnt being underleveled. its that permanent exp share makes it overwhelmingly easy to end up very overleveled for whatever youre going up against. if you dont hardly fight wild pokemon and try to avoid trainer battles, you MIGHT end up underleveled. maybe. exp share always on would be great and work fine if you didnt just get more effective exp than normal.
I think the reason why everyone hates it may be more that the games themselves aren't built around it, and instead of realizing this, they blame the EXP share instead of blaming the game design because they're used to all the grinding that was needed for the previous games.
I totally agree. I've decided to use a Misdreavus on my team as I've never used one on a playthrough before. There is a tiny chance you can get a Dusk Stone after the 5th Gym but it's really Victory Road or post game to get one.
@@jamescallanan2443 The 7th Gym? Oof. I didn't know that but thanks for the info. Apparently if you use a Pokemon with Pickup, they can find one in the Wayward Cave under the cycle road but you need Strength to enter it. If I can't find one there, I'll get the one you mentioned.
I do agree a lot. I think the graphics are almost perfect. What upsets me the most is the weird huge gap between eterna and veilstone and the location of the Razor Fang (after the league!!). And Fantina’s gym puzzle is really bad. But overall these are great games!
Personally, I play the Pokémon games incredibly casually and the Exp. Share helps me be able to play it in a way that’s more convenient to what I like. Still, the fact that it’s permanently stuck on is weird to me. Even if I’d personally leave it alone, that’s just my preference. I agree that it should be an option to switch it off if you want that extra challenge. With the affection mechanics, when I was playing through Shield, I was surprised and thrilled when my Dubwool, Sammy, managed a critical hit to make me happy for the first time. This only started happening to me in the late game though, and it was pretty well balanced, and again, I’m really casual so any extended battle time doesn’t bother me much. But this. This sounds like way too much.
Am I the only one upset they gutted the contests? That was genuinely one of my FAVORITE parts of diamond and pearl, and I was so excited to see the "updated" contests - only to find that they completely gutted the mechanics and overly simplified it
The affection bonuses are absolutely busted. I believe with max affection, your crit chances go up to double what they would normally be without focus energy or a battle item or anything like that. And the toughing it out thing happens wayyyy too often, my Floatzel toughed it out against 4 moves in a row while ON 1 hp against Cynthias Milotic
I'm convinced they're making the games so busted that you have to go out of your way to lose. I had my crobat survive an attack that should have finished it off with a super effective hit and just for shits and giggles I left it in just to see what would happen. 3 super effective moves later still "hanging on" with 1hp. I legit dont understand why that's a thing
The option should be there for the exp share. But it did put me at comparable levels with the E4 by the time I got there. And what an E4! Aaron's Heracross who was about 4-5 levels lower that my Staraptor KEPT OUTSPEEDING IT. Like wtf? It had flame orb so choice scarf wasn't it. They must be EV trained
Ya my main issue is the Faithful remake cues out of the three games platinum is the best and they should have add more features from it Like getting an Eevee or porygon as well as putting some of the over world items in I hate you can't get Gliscor till post game cuss we can't get the razer fang till the battle tower and the gym leaders teams in Platinum are way better then D/P.
I know its a DP remake but BDSP really feels like a spiritual successor to LGPE. The way they arbitrarily decided to leave out some features. And the poor implementation of the one they left in. However whereas LGPE felt like a dream within a dream, BDSP at least feels more grounded. Saying that though its still a buggy mess that adds very little to Sinnoh as a whole.
As someone who has owned diamond almost since release, I can't really recommend the game- even to fans. D/P feel Terrible to play through with how slow everything is. Now that the remake has fixed those base issues I'm probably never going to touch my Diamond copy again because it just Sucks to play. My opinion- either buy Platinum or the remakes. =/
I remember when the original Diamond and Pearl came out while I was in college. I was pretty much the only person I knew that still openly played Pokemon and several people were pretty critical of the Game Boy Advanced. It wasn't until Black and White and the 3DS that I started seeing a rise in Pokemon interest again. So, in all honesty, Diamond and Pearl don't really hold great memories for me. It's the game that reminds me of how isolated I felt in my own fandom and the game itself only got decent with Platinum. I just can't get excited for this game.
Personnaly, the thing that bugs me the most is the removal of the post gen 4 held items. I don't understand why the fairy type can be in the game but not the eviolite. I also would like to have the EXP Share and the affection to be optional. Affection started as a feature locked behind Pokémon Amie in X&Y and I think it was tied to following Pokémon in Sword & Shield but in BDSP, it isn't tied to anything: my Pokémons started doing this affection stuff WAY before I even unlocked the "Pokémon following you" feature. I didn't do anything for that to happen: I skipped lots of trainers and didn't give them any held items or any berry or poffins to eat... Nothing... it just happened and don't like that. It didn't feel like I earned their affection! As for the EXP Share... Well, it went through a bunch of iterations and even though I prefered it when it was a held item (even if it was really hard to get multiple), I don't mind any of this iterations. I just want it to be optional so I can get a bigger challenge in some parts of the game if I want to.
I couldn't have agreed more! The overwold looks amazing! Pokemon models look amazing! I love all the new animations for NPC's and Pokémon, but the human characters looks weird. They are very undetailed and soulless. That just contrast the beautifull background so much. It kinda feels like they forgot to finish the models and just slapped their beta versions onto finished game. They could have easly add more contrast and shadows in the places they would usually be like: under the hair/hat and it would look better imidietly.

Oh no
12:55 such a big (f) ucking disappointment 😥
Do you think it's a coincidence that the shinies of arceus and magikarp are both gold
My main issue is definitely "faithful remake", but more so for cutscenes and the unnatural square movements and in Grand Undeground Hideout areas i get stuck on the layouts sometimes because it's "half square, half not" layouts
It was fine for DS but completely unnecessary for Switch
I agree that the games are too faithful I wanted to use gliscor on a team but even the item placement is faithful to the original games and the razor fang is in the battle park
With how faithful these games are (even down to some bugs from the og) im surprised there hasnt been anything similar to the cute charm glitch

i think you hit the nail on the head with the last one. no one wanted a 1:1 remake. we wanted a sinnoh remake with platinum features ala HGSS. like for example the team galactic building in eterna city sucks. it would not have altered the story to make it look like the one in platinum...
Exactly so disappointing
No no no, the platinum team galactic building was horrible. Destroyed the appeal of the town
@@jakebyday not even on the inside?
@@--julian_ I quite liked the interior. But the ugly spaceship design was so loud for the small quaint town - I get that it’s the point, team galactic is loud, I just like it plain.
My biggest problems with the games:
- When learning a new move, pressing the b button just doesn't do anything
- Moving around can be a pain. Both with the dpad and the joystick, I bump into stuff, can't enter doors, etc
- Affinity is annoying. Even if we ignored the crits and stuff, the extra text box every single turn gets old real fast
Other than that I've been having a lot of fun with them. It would have been nice to see Looker and the distortion world again tho

WHAT
HOW DARE-
It might be a minor thing, but that’s just senseless.
Too faithful which no one really wants, people want remakes with new stuff that’s not on the original games, not faithful remakes.
Remakes are supposed to add new content like HGSS and ORAS did, but BDSP feels rushed and having the wrong priorities..
They are supposed the feel like the generation they are in, but set in a different region. FRLG, HGSS and ORAS all accomplished this
I don’t think it feels rushed but yeah a few more adds might’ve helped
The issue with affection is that they combined it with happiness, and since your pokemon just gain happiness by traveling with you, their affection is constantly going up. Thats why people have been giving pokemon bitter medicine/herbs in speed/challenge runs
Some things I would have liked is that they should have made changing outfits possible earlier, and also so you could have your Pokémon waking after you after like the first gym :)
Yeah! Should have been possible if you go back to your bedroom!
I will say that the Experience Share definitely needed a toggle option. There's no excuse for that.
Foreal bro. It’s like they try to push the adult fanbase away that’s been faithful. They’d make even more money if they would just listen to 25% of what the community asks for!
Especially since it *did* have a toggle option in previous games.
And with the friendship bonus, it's turning more babyish with each game.
Level scaling the grand underground encounters is great. Could they do that for trainers too?
I’d love that ^_^
I want to see that for Gym Leaders.
How awesome would a game be where you could take on the gyms in different orders? (but not so poorly done it has to be changed in the next game)
Isn't that the key item that let you re-battle trainers (I forgot the item's name & which game it was in). Would have been great if they put that as a game staple even
@@izzadk86 could it be the VS seeker?
@@sanjablazina2879 I think so, it's the one that when use all the trainer on screen who wants to re-battle you jumps and "!"
@@joelkooijenga6265I like BDSP and it's ofc not comparable to Platinum (2009) but Platinum was amazing for its time and I hope you'll enjoy it!
@@-_MR666_- Thanks very much!
Yeah... It really hurts certain aspects of the game..
The experience share should have been optional after eterna city. The professor's aide who give you it in the original, instead of giving you a rare candy upgrades your option settings to allow you turn it off and on.
But why, why not just be able to turn it off from the beginning like it used to be
I agree with the elements they removed that were introduced in Platinum.
You can get Froslass and Togekiss in the underground
Just an fyi apparently sun stone is broken and evolves all the happiness/trade evo pokemon so you could try that lol
Things I would change:
The affection thing was insane, way over the top. It seems tied to friendship but idk
My only problem so far is the cutscene. The characters still moving awkwardly in 4 directions instead of omnidirectional is kinda weird, especially when the player can do it.
Honestly, theres just two words that sum this game up perfectly: wasted potential
I'm surprised Toby never mentioned the complete gut job they did to contests, you can't even dress up your team with accessories anymore...
This is my way of finding out I can't use tangrowth and uh... I hate everything
I'm a contest Coordinator that competed back in Gen 4, so all my complaints involved the contests changes:
- Poffin making shouldn't be restricted to the joysticks. The switches have touch screens, give us the touch screen stir functions like in the original
- The requirements to unlocking the shining contest shouldn't be restricted to ONE pokemon.
I kinda wish that the chibi style of the overworld models were more like from gen 6.
Wow, I didn't expect them to remove secret bases. Those are a fun part of the game.
I know right, they had them in oras but I guess that's just a burning memory
They have secret bases
@@Shawnn88 are those really secret bases? fully personalised areas within the game? or are they underground chambers with statues?

I agree the Pokemon Affection this is stupid. I hope they do a Patch for the game where they fix it, or even get rid of it.
It would be nice if there was a way to turn off the effects of Friendship while still letting you increase it for the sake of evolution and whatnot

Maybe they can patch it to be attached to pffins and Pokemon with high affection do better in the contests?
My biggest criticism are in no particular order -
1) No toggleable exp share.
Man I'm waiting for these updates ... I sure hope they do come, though😅
But unevolved pokemon ALREADY level up faster

#2 Affection
THIS ONE I AGREE WITH.
(Rotom and Togekiss are my second and third favorite pokémon so that may have influenced this opinion)
Like you mentioned in the video, I would also like a toggleable EXP share.
GF should hire Drayano or SHF for a title xD
@@finalbossbowser every game has glitchs. It will 3028 and game will still have glitchs. You just don't understand what a glitch is.
At first I really hated the limited pokedex and team options until I figured out the rare underground spawns that really help with team options!
LETSSSS GOOOOOOOO SIINNNNOOOHHHHH!!!
The thing that made me sad was the lack of full 360 movement it felt really bad to move around
The original’s are very expensive, people may not own a DS, people may want to play on a bigger screen, people may want to play in tv.
slightly worse graphics, you mean. The strange cel-shade graphics of the overworld, i feel, is so much more ugly compared to the original...
@@LittleLexi24 People may also want to experience Joycon Drift?
@@LittleLexi24 emulation
The disconnect between chibi overworld and more realistic battles seems like *more* work, because it requires additional modeling and rigging. I really enjoyed the visuals in LGPE, because they were consistently nice to look at. The following pokemon was done better then too. LGPE really needs more love in the fan base. BDSP really underscores that.
Secret bases should have stayed the same/ more similar to the originals (diamond, pearl, platinum).
When I first found out that you couldn't decorate your secret base, I was really disappointed.
I stopped having staraptor at the front of my party because of the power of friendship mechanic
Loving these non-debatable objective facts, keep ‘em coming
Exp share should be togglable, the idea of a hidden mechanism existing sounds fun, like a secret option :)
I'd love to be slightly more underleveled for battles ...
I wish BDSP kept the odds for the PokeRadar. Only statically having a 5% chance for a successful chain is pathetic.
@@FonVegen that is true.
the issue isnt being underleveled. its that permanent exp share makes it overwhelmingly easy to end up very overleveled for whatever youre going up against.
if you dont hardly fight wild pokemon and try to avoid trainer battles, you MIGHT end up underleveled. maybe.
exp share always on would be great and work fine if you didnt just get more effective exp than normal.
I think the reason why everyone hates it may be more that the games themselves aren't built around it, and instead of realizing this, they blame the EXP share instead of blaming the game design because they're used to all the grinding that was needed for the previous games.
Y'all making excuses for Pokémon games
I totally agree. I've decided to use a Misdreavus on my team as I've never used one on a playthrough before. There is a tiny chance you can get a Dusk Stone after the 5th Gym but it's really Victory Road or post game to get one.
You get one in the Galactic warehouse after you beat Candice
It happened to me once during the top4 matches when I had 1 hp and was hit by an effective attack - still stood there with 1 hp🤣😶
I don't know how contests work in diamond and pearl but I feel like the rhythm game is not enough I wish they did something like Oras or combined them
The option should be there for the exp share.
Was gonna list a few of my main issues but you already covered them. 100% agree.
If the og diamond game wasn't so high I'd just buy it instead
