thanks for your comment. The intent is to highlight the fact that the host of this episode is a native African rather than a foreign host, as is the case in most travel shows. I think it is well understood that Africans live in cities and the country, however this show is about rural Africa.
Great Depression Cooking thank you for sharing your family as well as families abroad. this generation lacks the history & understanding of where our ancestors came from & how they endured. once again thank you.
Thanks for making a good video about my country, Malawi. It is rare to have someone make a video about our country that protrays our warm heart and happiness in small things. You have made me more proud of my country!!!
I agree great production. Really a wonderful cooking instructional vid. Love the content, the host and family, the text animations and music. Are there any more of these? Must have taken a lot to do this one but it still looks great.
I wish you had continued with this project! Fascinating and inspiring to see how other cultures live, eat, and commune together. Any more videos like this on the horizon?
I have always believed that there is MONETARY poverty, and there’re is SPIRITUAL poverty. These people are rich beyond some of our wildest dreams, wouldn’t you agree?
I'm from nigeria, i love this video each time i watch, it reminds me about how we africans use to eat together, thanks for showing us part of your culture.
you did a wonderful job finding this video. The host, although poor, had a happiness to him that money could not buy. I love to see people content with their lives even if food and money is not abundant. I thank you for sharing this video.
Don’t know if he is poor. Check out Our Tribe of Many channel and their last trip to Kenya. The grandparents basically live in shacks but they are considered wealthy because of the land they own. They have different standards of living and what is valued. Definitely interesting.
They are just nice, gentle, simple happy, humble people. They know life is tough but they handle it very lightly. They can still smile and enjoy a community life in sharing whatever food they have.
When u walk around barefoot enough, the entire bottom of ur feet becomes hard and calloused as a natural protective barrier. My uncle, who hasn't worn shoes in over 20 years, can stomp barefoot on broken glass without injury. Using her feet it probably the best way to avoid burns without oven mitts/pads.
This is one of the nicest videos I've watched in a long time. The food is so simple and healthy, but most of all the people are so warm and welcoming and so easy to love. God bless them.
This was a very unique and interesting video. I have never seen a video demonstrating preparation of an African style meal. The father gave such good information as to the source of the cooking recepticals and the meal's ingredients. Truly an insight into cooking and the cultural aspects of the Malawi people. Thank you!
The smile on that sweet child at 3:07! I could just gobble up! So wonderful the close family. You say you are poor but have more then most with the love you show to one another.
Really enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing. It IS so very humbling to see these people with so little, dealing with so much over there (AIDS, war, general crime, etc.) but have such spirit and joy.
I call the Nsima "sponge" because it soaks up the flavor of other food :) My husband is from east Kenya and they make the sponge and collard greens pretty much the same way. It's my favorite meal!
God bless you thank you for the awesome video on your culture I know Fr, Paul from Malawi, and he said us Americans have 3rd world problems and you guys help us to know how to service when all is lost but with God all things are possible! May the Good Lord bless you and keep your Family!
This is a wonderful Family video . Thank you very much for sharing your part of the world , your meal and your family here . Your meal looks good May God Bless you and your family
+Alex Lotz they also seem grateful for what they have, and make the best of their lives, unlike the negative "I'm better than you" attitude we see so much elsewhere. Humble and grateful, that is something to strive for.
Fascinating! Very interesting view into another culture and their daily life. An amazing example of creating something healthy and nutritious from very little and putting to use every last available bit; appears to be very little wastefulness. Are there more videos in this series? Will it be an ongoing thing?
Thank you for sharing your cultural cuisine. I am from Tanzania and we also cook Nsima but we call it Ugali. It can be made from Cassava or corn meal. And it's also eaten with vegetables or meat. If you come from the coastal towns or cities with lakes you will have your Ugali with Fish, vegetables like spinach and Kachumbari.. which is an onion based Salad. Asante!!
I LOVE it! A wonderful lesson and cultural experience. People love to share recipes, no matter who they are or where they are from. Keep them coming - from all over the world! I love that it is about everyday folks cooking everyday meals, not shock-value "see how different they are!", but about how much we have in common.
Good man and lovely family. As a chef I always like to see how others cook all over the world. Keep up the good work sir! You are a lucky man. G-d Bless
This is going to be an incredible series! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences there. I spent time in Africa a few years ago and miss the food so much! I always felt so strong, happy and healthy there. Getting to go back through your eyes is a gift. Thank you.
Wonderful video!!! Good food together with a good community! I like that and wish we Americans would adopt some of these wonderful practices from other countries when it comes to sharing with family and friends! Thanks so much for the video!
Thank you Clara! This video shows us that we can all learn to make-do with what we are given. It would be great if we all learned to cook like this, instead of buying McDonalds and Burger King garbage! Learn to cook, people! We can all live healthy and happy lives this way!
good.i love it. welcome to my channel . thanks for sharing. i was in ghana, togo, and tanzania. african people are like my family. best regards from japan.
Bless you. I made some home made fudge. And decided to share it with the community where I live. And they did not want any. Except for two people. Its good to share. I have always shared all of my life. I cared for the Elderly for many many years.
These videos i really treasure.I treasure mrs.Clara RIP would love to have met you and talked to you.My grandmother lived to be 95 she died on Thanksgiving day 2000.Sadly I only met my grandmother when i was 5 and never again I never really had any grand parents on either side so I feel close to Clara a wealth of knoledge and history was in her !!!
Been there Absolutely love the people the cooking the tastes. We were treated like kings so even chicken was prepared. Beste tasting chicken I have had. If you know a Malawian, ask them if they can make you Nsima, chicken and the cabbage/relish dish.
Those soya pieces called Soya Curls in western America, are expensive and in high demand as a gluten free meat substitute for vegans. Amazing to see them here!
This looks delicious! I wish there was more to this series. I love food from around the world that isn't just your typical countries (IE Japan, Italy, etc).

I'm sad this series didn't take off
It could have, but ya know.... 🙄😏
Jessica Re me too. There is something about different cultures/technologies of cooking that really connect people across time and distance.
Yeah its really cool to see other cultures cook, inspiring me to learn to cook better 🤣
Wait for it.
You’ll get over it
I wish you had continued with this project! Fascinating and inspiring to see how other cultures live, eat, and commune together. Any more videos like this on the horizon?
LOOk at how HAPPY these people are!! PROOF that happines comes from inside and not the material shit we all chase!!!!!
This is true. Community. This looks much healthier than a lot of the shit I eat every week.
