Taking a look inside this old mine. Looks like galena inside. What do you think?

  • I was out and about in southern New Mexico near the turtleback mountains and came across this old mine. I’m not sure but looks like they were following the quartz and looks like manganese and some galena in it. What do you think? #newmexico #wow #omg #rockhound #mining #quartz #galena #manganese

Does look like magnesium. Maybe manganese. If the walls are pink limestone, called dolomite/Ca Mg (CO3)/ Calcium Magnesium Carbonate, it helps support the presence of Mg.
You would need lead/ Pb present for galena/PbS/Lead Sulfide. Lead always looks black to me in the field.
So does silver, but you can rub the black tarnish off on your jeans, and it will shine like silver. Exciting, the possibilities of accessory minerals!! Good work!!!

Are there any little samples that you collected?
