Virtually ALL American G&L's can be ordered with custom anything. There is a list a mile long to pick from. The whole shop is set up as a Custom shop it is not an assembly line.
That’s really cool I never knew that
@@derekhand7904 its really crazy
11:44, the 1979 25th Anniversary Stratocasters had a poly finish, they were not finished in lacquer. My '79 Anniversary Stratocaster turned orange/yellow within the first year of owning it. If I remember correctly the finish problem was due to new Kalifornia EPA regulations requiring Fender to switch to a water-based poly finish. They had not worked all the bugs out of the process. As a result Fender paid to have my guitar refinished in the original pearl white with a new Anniversary decal placed under the finish.
Typical California
the same thing happened with cars of that era.
fun fact: that tiger explorer was built exclusively for playing the song 'still loving you' (scorpions). first chords are playable with open strings. cause the guitar was built for that. 'dr. feelgood' also plays kinda right. tiger, not zebra.
I watched a video about that song on the 'Charismatic Voice' channel only last night! 😀 My favourite Scorpions song! 😊 My cousin's band had opened for them on several occasions in the late 70's 🙂
And to me, Rudolf Schenker's bro Michael's black&white Flying V is the coolest of them all, because of that paint job (Originally done for him by Hamer, by the way) 🙂
"Screw McCartney playing in a historic broadcast, just look at those pickup surround screw heads!!!" LOL, you HAVE to love Austin. One of a kind!
10:45, Antigua Stratocaster. I can say with high confidence the marks on the back of the body were the result of an instrument cable left in the case with the guitar stored resting on top of it.....................please don't ask me how I know!
I don’t need to ask, I know you are a man of many experiences HK.🖖🏻
I think we know how he knows!
Fair play to you man, I can't name any other RUclipsr that posts valuable, well thought content , every day, so consistently.
Here here well said and so true! 👍
The G&L Comanche come with those Zcoil pickups.
The concept is that the coils are split and reverse wound, like a humbucker to stop the hum and they are dead silent.
The purple strat: best I remember, those came that way. If you notice, the bottom couple of pole pieces on the pickups are also rested. Makes me think the person who owned it just had acidic sweat, and those were places affected by this.
Not sure if you're aware but the foo fighters drummer passed away this year, so if the Dave grohl proto has his sig that would be pretty sweet for history 🤙
I don't know how much faith you should put in the listings on Heritage Auctions. They are the company that said the most common N64 game of all time was worth $2 mil.
13:00 that 97 studio is gorgeous. I have a 99 studio with the ebony board and 59 neck. plays like a dream.
The Gadow guitar company was located in North Carolina and from what I understand they are a defunct company. I lucked into a set of Gadow humbuckers that sound incredible -- they have a lot of high end sparkle and an overall complexity to the tone that sounds very exciting. After I installed them and fell so hard for them, I was bummed to find out they were out of business.
Hey Austin . Hoping you have bought the 'B-52' guitar , for later review . I'm not holding my breath , but I would definitely like to see you play that one . 👴👍
In the 80's Rickenbacker shortened the triangles on the neck to show it was a new guit... To differentiate from earlier instruments. Then, to confuse things, they went back to full size inlays...
That 12 string Rick finish is Azureglo. The inlays on the turquoise 360 are correct for the period.
I love the B52s and particularly Fred Schnieder, I’d love to own that thing
Is the white laespaul studio from the 90s? My lespaul looks exactly like that and I think is from either 2006 or 2008. It has an ebony fingerboard as well
Happy Friday-Eve Everyone
great attitude, but currently Fridays for me expect work because I work fri sat sunday, but I'm thankful I can work
@@BeatlesCuber Understood. I too with be working the entire weekend. And I too am thankful that I can work.
@@CatBlackGuitars That would be welcome.
It seems to have been a little while since a Fender Friday!
Good evening HK. Well done today, your Internet upgrade is paying off. I’m pleased to award you a Silver Medal for your effort.
@@CatBlackGuitars +1
I really enjoy the Japan only guitars. Making so few for the domestic market really allows them flexibility with design, or, maybe there are fewer Bean Counters in Fender Japan!
I always love seeing Heritage coverage, someone's always sending something rad off to them. Nothing looks smarter than a black and gold les paul... if only I was a lefty... and, uh... rich 😅
Greetings and well wishes from Utah!
Rickenbacker shrank the inlays to avoid warranty claims from cracked fingerboard binding. Prior they were full width. Inlays don't expand and contract at the same rate as the board, so bing bang boom, smaller inlays.
They brought the full width ones back now that glues and plastic suck less.
Hey Trogly the inlays on Rickenbackers were like that from the early 80s to 2008. They went to the big style inlays again in 2009
The NAMM show in 1993 was in Anaheim Ca. And it was mid January.
(I attended that show😊)
ps,
Get that “Daktari” Explorer, it’s awesome!🤩
There’s a vid of McCartney playing on stage with Steven Van Zandt, 2017-ish. Paul’s playing a very similar black-on-black LP. But it looks like the hardware might by silver in color, not gold. But not sure.
Thanks for the heads up on the auction I forget to look for those. I very seldom disagree with you but I actually like the the pick guard on the zebra explorer lol. I always enjoy learning when I watch your videos so thankyou as always.
Is the bridge upside down on the Epiphone?
I liked the gold ‘89 strat. I also liked the way the antigua ‘79 strat looked with yellowing
that explorer is cool, so many 90s 1 offs that are sweet. hope you get it!
there's no more-correct way to mount a bridge. i've had gibsons that have come brand new from the factory with the screws facing up as well as facing down. i prefer the saddle ramp to face my palm because it's more comfortable, however making the saddle ramp face the tail piece ensures that the intonation doesn't move due to saddle wear. HOWEVER if you're playing a guitar that long without setting it up you've got other problems. so yeah...it doesn't matter.
The black&white paint job on that Explorer looks just like some Hamer and Aria Explorer-style guitars from the 80's! And those *didn't* have pickguards 🙂
Actually, "Vibracell" was a trademark for the material that the Switch guitars were made from. Some synthetic or other; I have nothing else, unfortunately -- but at least I'm old enough to have seen their ads in guitar magazines of the time. I don't recall, however, the name of that model. A quick search through internet photos shows this model to have been called the "Revolution." That's pretty much all I can find out about this model, but considering the almost completely synthetic nature (if I can even use that word!) of it, it's going to be pretty much like all the others except for obvious things like bridge and pickups. Considering today's guitar market and the prevalence of cheap (yet high quality) guitars, guitars made of alternative materials still don't make a great deal of economic sense for the consumer, but heaven help us all if that should change -- and it might.
I'mm not sure but that "rose tattoo" may actually be a fuzzy flower sticker. You can kinda tell by the shadow it is throwing around it that it seems to have some thickness to it. Used to see those a lot back in the day.
Maybe that Explorer started all black and they painted the white on since the custom shop and gibson logos are on the black part of the guitar.
Greeting everybody from Paris, Il
Greetings from Michigan Brian. I purchased my 1987x Marshall from a store in France!
Bonjour
I have that exact dark blue Rick 330-12 left handed
As a Sweetwater local I was hoping I'd see you listed on the GearFest Content Providers listing. Love you show!
I like the Explorer how it is, Vs and Explorers always look terrible without a pickguard imo
Wow, I learned something new about cell pickguards today!
I will get that white LP Studio any day of the week. Nice one!!
Thanks for posting pics of the zebra Explorer! I bought that guitar new in 1995 or 96 at a guitar show located at the Indy state fairgrounds. A store from Ithica, NY had it listed for $3200 with all the case candy! I traded an Ibanez V and some cash for it and played it for 3 years. Last time I saw it was on eBay, listing for 12999.99. The guy said he had the zebra V and was looking for the LesPaul. Funny thing about the Zebra is, it didn't play or sound as nice as my 89 Explorer. It also has a minor "flaw"....the low E tuning key is crooked....it leans towards the A key just slightly. I do have pictures of the guitar being played in a few small clubs back in the 90's! Thanks for waking a few old memories, Trogly!
Oh, I was told when I bought it that those Zebra guitars were made for the Texas NAMM show in 1993
Thanks brother I have a 1976 Gibson Les Paul Custom Blackie in great & all original condition how much do you think it's worth
Auction percentage always seems to cut out any value on regular guitar purchases. Love seeing what shows up on the block though.
That purple strat has $400 worth on tuners alone, the Fender/Schaller used by SRV and John Mayer
I always wanted one of the zebra Flying Vs
The bottom stripe on the explorer reminds me of the snakebyte, gives the illusion
Cool McCartney lp custom.nice zebra striped explorer but I don't like the black pickguard.
dude serious question most guys here are also interested in, how many guitars do you have and where comes all the money from to buy all those great very expensive instruments? greetings from germany 🤟
That’s a good question’ I’ll do my best to answer it on behalf of Austin for u’ he pretty much just does the same as we all do in the beginning’ u buy one for a good price’ and u clean it up and get it back to spec’ then document it and then sell it’ the profit over time justifies the purchase of a guitar that u can keep’ then u repeat the same process and then after a few years if u are disciplined enough then u start being able to build a collection of really nice guitars’ but u have to be patient and find the ones u can do up and make it work for yourself ✌️🎸💪
@@thrashinwebster thanks a lot for that bargain information sir :) i ask another question in the comments of your new video about tokai guitars also, maybe you will have a look into that 🤟👍
As a lefty, 40k is only slightly more expensive than what I usually pay for left handed guitars. Right privelige is real people
You need to get some G&L in your shop!
You NEED that explorer for your museum!
"It has a Charlie Christian pick-up which automatically makes it cool."
--Subscribed.
For the striped explorer customer shop they could have even used a Les Paul pick guitar to show off the rest of the guitar. A tortoise shell would have worked
Grestch sploooooooooooge
That Ric is badass never seen that one before literally went “ooooh” when it came up
woot woot Trogly's 🙌
Agreed on the reverse Flying V. Next decades treasure.
Those bc rich eagles are awesome
purple strat is beautiful! screws could be replaced hahaa
Review that Rickenbacker, please!
The Zebra explorer has a Ted Nugent whiplash bash vibe.
Love it.
It didn't shit its pants
16:43 parker fly knockoff lol
Yo that’s a sick Explorer guitar
Trogly, get the Switch!
That zebra Explorer is Boss!
Where’s Rondo?
That last guitar is a copy of an older guitar, something British, maybe Burns
Great video.
Waffles*Waffles*Waffles
Bacon*Bacon*Bacon Greetings Biker Jon
Well done Biker Jon, you made today’s podium and earned another Bronze Medal.
$7k for that Rick? That's about 12k underpriced!!!!
🤘
Cheap can be great 👍👍👍
I have a Switch Wild 4 it’s a cool guitar, feels great, sounds absolutely terrible
If you’re a “Fender purist” then you should want that G&L ASAT. G&L IS Fender: Leo Fender. The ASAT is his final word on the Telecaster. It’s not some “copy”. G&Ls are more Fender than anything the Fender company has produced since 1965.
This is the usual line trotted out by G&L fans. It ignores, though, the inconvenient truth that what we accept as standard Tele wiring (3-way switch with back for bridge, middle for bridge-neck in parallel, forrward for neck) is a post-Leo development intro'd by CBS-era Fender in 1967. Curious that G&L replicated it and not Leo's bass pickup thing that he had insisted on when in charge at Fender.
Also amusing to read all the stuff about not being a copy and being his final word on the tele, more Fender than anything after Fender put out after 1965 when the guitar you are talking about is basically a knock-off of a Telecaster Thinline, introduced in 1969.
Aren't Heritage Auctions the guys involved in the video game rating BS with Wata?
😃
Top 40! Musical.
Rev V yeah
Two VERY cool Explorers!!!
Cool
I was really expecting to hear you say the words Ted Nugent custom explorer!! 😂 kinda sad it was so
ya .. they lost the plot with the pick guard on that zebra explorer.
Didn’t Nugent play those zebra guitars for a few years ??
What movie did that come from? I'd but that for a dollar. I found ot it was robocop
Les paul and friends. There's footage of evh performing here on the tube
no trogley the pickguard is fine
Hello 👋
Randy in the house
I was just watching the nwa movie but thats on pause when trogly upload
I understand why you’re adding Euro and Pound pricing; but maybe you can find a subtler way to display that. It really pulls me out of the narrative, which your inclusion of metric measurements does not.
✌️
Peace Peace Hector
@@sgt.grinch3299 ✌️
If Taylor's signature is on that Dave Grohl's guitar it's already worth alot probably?!!!!
Signed by the late Taylor Hawkins ☹️
Ah the Ole "celluloid case queen". Sad, yet awesome....so conflicting.
Can't play zoo gigs with the Explorer, a zebra will want to be your boyfriend !
SCORPIONS 🦂 !!!!
Just buy it Austin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍🎸🤣
Meaning the Explorer 👍👍. Would be a great review and demo!!!!!
I feel like these are tom petty's old guitars.
I love that zebra.
Beatles Cuber, GREETINGS
@@hkguitar1984 hey hk good to see you bud.
@@BeatlesCuber And You too ;-)
Agreed, I'd take any Gibson with that finish.
Congratulations on climbing to the summit of the Mole Hill and earning today’s Gold Medal.
I like the video but not into any of the guitars. The zebra explorer is hideous
The screw on the left side of the middle pick up looks like a mad face. 😠
Early to the party
Welcome The Nameless
Question, do you prefer "The Nameless" or just "Nameless"?
The Nameless, I'd have chosen a different name, but then I wouldn't be nameless. Thanks!
@@thenameless3271 OK, thank you for clarification. I really like the name "The Nameless". It is both very memorable and non-memorable, a pretty amazing feat.
Ha, thanks
Looking for a married woman, recently cheated on. Mad as Hell! Willing to sell his guitars for cheap! 👀
The bc rich guitar looks gross.
I like it
