Trying To Find Out Why The Marshall Plane Crash Pilot Is Buried In New Bern

  • The pilot of the deadly plane crash carrying the Marshall football team from Kinston to Huntington, WV is buried at the New Bern National Cemetery in New Bern. Frank Abbott was born in Wilson right down Highway 264 from Greenville but moved to the middle part of the state and graduated from Reidsville High School. He attended Georgia Tech and The Citadel and then served in World War II and Korea. He became a commercial pilot and logged thousands of hours in the air. He was living in Atlanta, GA when the plane crash happened November 14th, 1970. He was buried five days later in New Bern. Brian North is trying to find out what that cemetery was chosen as his eternal resting place.
