Don't forget about contracts, and what you get paid for winning a title, Deegs has come from dead last to first in some races and we all witnessed some smart title management today. Kitchen is not the most consistent rider out there. The points tell the story.
I agree. When they showed it when it happened Chance was clearly out and I was livid when I found out they was saying Hymas had something besides a head injury and was letting him ride second moto. I told my wife at start of race he is showing the concussion in his riding. I agree about him working too hard. He almost lost that big whip. I went for a 15 round championship one time racing off-road and even though I won it I have missed races on purpose since because I will never let my love for bikes be ruined again. I am impress swoll got a podium. Just think he was literally working construction and had no future in the sport until triumph called. I wonder how club feels now? He beat every club bike
Fact: MX Sports management IS NOT GIVING ADEQUATE INSTRUCTIONS TO THEIR DAY WORKERS: THE FLAGGERS! This race yet again had multiple examples of flaggers not knowing what to do and how to do it. This is clearly a chronic issue for MX Sports. One of these pros is going to get seriously hurt due to the negligence and MX Sports is going to get sued! Who do the flaggers report to? 1) AMA 2) MX Sports 3) the track ownership Who hires, pays and is responsible for the flaggers??

Nice podcast I was there. Went to dinner the night before in Utica we had plenty of local visitors that are pro riders at our table. But my best part of the race was when they play the national anthem. Star Spangled Banner overlooking this beautiful land of ours. And it's not the government's land it's our land. 🇺🇸🙏🏻
When did Kitchen shut Haiden down ? I saw Haiden pass and shut Levi down in moto 1. In moto 2 I saw Haiden closing in on Joe and Levi and then when Joe crashed I watched Haiden let Levi go which I think was a very smart thing to do seeing how he watched several top guys end up in the medical trailer. He also knew he has a huge 70 points lead over Levi and more then likely he will wrap this championship up next week unless he throws it away by making a stupid mistake to try and catch a guy he's gonna tie in points with on the day anyways. Yea, wouldn't call this shutting Haiden down. Maybe " Haiden plays it smart by extending his points lead over Vialle & Levi's back getting his 2nd win of the season and moves back into 2nd place in the points lead"

I TOTALLY agree with you on the wooden stakes. I can remember running over and pleading with a track worker to pull out the broken stake that was pointing right at the riders at Broome Tioga. That's how long Ive been on the get rid of the wooden stakes band wagon.

It came out at the press conference that Haiden was sick. That is why he was not at the press conference. Nothing like being sick and upping your points lead and then having people constantly report on him how Kitchen kicked his ass. Wooden stakes and metal t post have to go. No reason they should be remotely close to the track. I know Jo didn’t get speared but it was way too close. I remember either last year or the year before someone got speared by a wooden stake
Levi Kitchen certainly rode well in moto 2, but something tells me that Kitchen purposely let him by in moto 1 while Deegan was playing the conservative game after Hymas went down. Chance Hymas not getting any burns from his pipe was very fortunate, but I agree with you if you're implying Honda should not have let Hymas go out for moto 2. Of course, anything could happen (like Pastrana in '01), but I think those days were long over. I was THRILLED for Jalek Swoll to hit the podium on that Triumph bike, but at the same time, I couldn't believe the kind of luck both Hymas AND Tom Vialle put in today, especially when Vialle was supposed to perform well on this European style track. Hopefully that's the kind of ride Swoll needs to end Motocross on a high. Tom Vialle disappointed me once again, but something tells me that he's just riding out the series because his Motocross season has been a total bust! Good stuff as usual, Cooksey! I'll be on the lookout for your 450cc class video.
Unadilla is no longer a European style track. They ruined it and turned it into just another outdoor sx track. BTW, did you notice today that ruts caused almost all of the crashes. STOP GROOMING THE TRACKS! Unadilla had a rut here or there about 4" deep on the inside of the turns before bulldozers. Grooming causes ruts, ruts cause injuries.

Quitting IS a virus. Just ask Mike Craig, Christian Craig's old man. He lost his Yamaha factory ride because he kept quitting. I remember him pulling off at Unadilla in '93 and seeing Bob Hannah, who was working for Yamaha back then saying, "That's it! He's OFF the team!" Hannah's disgust was obvious. Quitting NEVER entered Hannah's mind EVER.

You could tell both 2nd motos a majority of guys started to really tone it back. The ruts were grabbing bikes and lamming them as soon as the hard base showed up.

I think the track was narly enough that pushing too hard and risking a crash wasn’t worth the outcome. Worst part of leading a championship is racing to protect the lead verses racing to gain the lead.
Yeah I disagree about the photographer not stepping in. The TV camera appeared to show the pipe burning into something on what looked like Hymas' chest. If you're standing nearby and see the same thing, the LAST fricken thing on your mind should be some kind of possible penalty going to the rider cuz you got the bike off him. The rider wasn't moving and appeared to be receiving serious burns to his chest area. Maybe the TV shot was misleading, but if what we saw is what dude saw trackside, he should've broke the speed of sound getting to Hymas and getting the bike off him
Haiden just needs to survive next weekend to wrap up the title early. Levi was on it that second moto and it isnt worth the risk to push when the points are the same in the end and his nearest competition didnt get any points for moto 1. Also damn this track did a number on the 250 class. Conchran and shimoda hopefully didnt break anything. Hymas looked out, dude just laid there while his helmet or goggles were smoking.
The flagger people are talking about with Hymas is the one who just stood over him holding the bike 3 inches off of him instead of putting his flag down and trying to actually lift the bike.
33 minutes in to Moto 1 of the 250. The flagger first got to him. Pulled the rear fender up while trying to wave the yellow flag. There media/camera guys come over and flipped the bike off from him. Props to those to guys. Flagger should have dropped the flag. Flip the bike off him. Then grab and wave the yellow flag. Flip side. I witnessed him out cold still a min later. When u get the wind nocked out of u, as the broadcast. you don’t lay on your back not moving. You naturally get to ur hands and knees. Probably shouldn’t have let him even get back on the bike to finish Moto 1. Let alone start Moto. 2. Yes. I was there.
Getting the bike off him when the pipe is obviously burning something on the rider is not giving assistance, it is a medical emergency. Standing the bike up and holding it there so the rider can get back in the race is assistance. But you are correct, the ama or mxsports will screw it up somehow anyway. The lights instead of flaggers wont fix anything and I only see it getting worse. The whole thing is a dangerous clown show.

How did Hymas have a full 2 second gap on the field in qualifying? Had what a 6 second lead in moto 1 before he crashed? Why was he so much faster?
Now this is just my opinion. I think Hymas wanted to come out and make a statement because he’s feeding into the Deegan beef narrative that’s getting pushed and was riding it on the limit to make that statement and the other riders were simply not willing to do that because a lot of them have rode here before and know the track will bite you if you push it too much. Hymas has not been here before so he’s not familiar with it and I think that’s why his times were so much quicker at the beginning because of the willingness to push it harder versus the other guys and unfortunately the track did bite him because of it.

I was there today at the race and had asked one of the workers in parking how much he was making, he responded he had to make community service hours. He has all the same equipment as flaggers so who knows how they are getting people to flag
Yep! Crazy they let Chance ride moto 2. Jo and the wooden stakes.. yep, you can see if he was just a little further forward or back when he want down, a stake could ahve went right into his helmet through the google area or up under the chin. I understand why they use wood, cheap and strong enough. BUT, at the very least, put something like a tennis ball, or a cut up pool noodles and jam 6 inches of them over the top of ever stake within a few bike lengths of the track. Flaggers and lights.. well hopefully sooner rather than later.
That's scary but I hope you realize that the main way people end up in a wheelchair is from compression not flexion/extension. Going head first straight into something like a berm is the riskiest. In other words, imagine standing straight up looking straight forward and someone drops 200 pounds on top of your head. THAT type of hit is what blows out necks and causes paralysis much more than bending this way or that way. That's why neck braces are designed to stop your helmet from compressing too far toward your shoulders.
@MatthewC137 unfortunately I saw this 1st hand as my up and coming nephew hit a huge jump and clipped the front wheel on the landing. He went head/face 1st into the ground shattering his 6D helmet. Broke his neck, shattered a couple vertebrae and collapsed both lungs. Air lifted to trauma unit and went into surgery almost immediately. Fused 2 different sections with rods etc. We planned and braced that our 19yr family member would never walk again. The Dr's have no idea how the impact or fragments didn't puncture his spinal cord. 2yrs later he's walking just fine and living a normal life. He actually started riding less than a year later but nowhere at the same level. Anyway enough about all that and yes I agree the compression is the bad one. Thanks for listening. Oh I sold my bikes because that experience scared me so bad. I'm older so I wouldn't recover like my nephew did.

@MatthewC137 it was definitely a rare case towards the positive. I thought for sure he was paralyzed and you're right it's not worth it. I sold my bikes and bought a wakeboard boat. Sure boating can be dangerous if inexperienced drivers or alcohol is involved but hitting the water sure feels better than slamming into the dirt.
@@markmcmahen9442 I don't wakeboard but have to admit that I ride my Grizzly 700s and Raptor 700 more than my YZ. Yes still dangerous but I trust myself a lot more on those quads since being on 2 wheels is what tempts me to really go big. All my broken bones happened on 2 wheels!

When did Kitchen shut Haiden down ? I saw Haiden pass and shut Levi down in moto 1. In moto 2 I saw Haiden closing in on Joe and Levi and then when Joe crashed I watched Haiden let Levi go which I think was a very smart thing to do seeing how he watched several top guys end up in the medical trailer. He also knew he has a huge 70 points lead over Levi and more then likely he will wrap this championship up next week unless he throws it away by making a stupid mistake to try and catch a guy he's gonna tie in points with on the day anyways. Yea, wouldn't call this shutting Haiden down. Maybe " Haiden plays it smart by extending his points lead over Vialle & Levi's back getting his 2nd win of the season and moves back into 2nd place in the points lead"

I TOTALLY agree with you on the wooden stakes. I can remember running over and pleading with a track worker to pull out the broken stake that was pointing right at the riders at Broome Tioga. That's how long Ive been on the get rid of the wooden stakes band wagon.
Guess it's a good thing Broome Tioga went under then. crap track, crap track owner, shit drive too and from the track and also starting racing at 11 am on Sunday didn't cut it either.

Nothing like being sick and upping your points lead and then having people constantly report on him how Kitchen kicked his ass. Levi Kitchen certainly rode well in moto 2, but something tells me that Kitchen purposely let him by in moto 1 while Deegan was playing the conservative game after Hymas went down.
Chance Hymas not getting any burns from his pipe was very fortunate, but I agree with you if you're implying Honda should not have let Hymas go out for moto 2. Of course, anything could happen (like Pastrana in '01), but I think those days were long over.
I was THRILLED for Jalek Swoll to hit the podium on that Triumph bike, but at the same time, I couldn't believe the kind of luck both Hymas AND Tom Vialle put in today, especially when Vialle was supposed to perform well on this European style track. Hopefully that's the kind of ride Swoll needs to end Motocross on a high.
Tom Vialle disappointed me once again, but something tells me that he's just riding out the series because his Motocross season has been a total bust!

Unadilla is no longer a European style track. They ruined it and turned it into just another outdoor sx track. BTW, did you notice today that ruts caused almost all of the crashes. STOP GROOMING THE TRACKS! Unadilla had a rut here or there about 4" deep on the inside of the turns before bulldozers. Grooming causes ruts, ruts cause injuries.

You could tell both 2nd motos a majority of guys started to really tone it back. The ruts were grabbing bikes and lamming them as soon as the hard base showed up.

I think the track was narly enough that pushing too hard and risking a crash wasn’t worth the outcome. Worst part of leading a championship is racing to protect the lead verses racing to gain the lead.

Yeah I disagree about the photographer not stepping in.
The TV camera appeared to show the pipe burning into something on what looked like Hymas' chest.
If you're standing nearby and see the same thing, the LAST fricken thing on your mind should be some kind of possible penalty going to the rider cuz you got the bike off him. The rider wasn't moving and appeared to be receiving serious burns to his chest area.
Maybe the TV shot was misleading, but if what we saw is what dude saw trackside, he should've broke the speed of sound getting to Hymas and getting the bike off him
Haiden just needs to survive next weekend to wrap up the title early. Levi was on it that second moto and it isnt worth the risk to push when the points are the same in the end and his nearest competition didnt get any points for moto 1.
Also damn this track did a number on the 250 class. Conchran and shimoda hopefully didnt break anything. Hymas looked out, dude just laid there while his helmet or goggles were smoking.

33 minutes in to Moto 1 of the 250. The flagger first got to him. Pulled the rear fender up while trying to wave the yellow flag. There media/camera guys come over and flipped the bike off from him. Props to those to guys. Flagger should have dropped the flag. Flip the bike off him. Then grab and wave the yellow flag.
Flip side. I witnessed him out cold still a min later. When u get the wind nocked out of u, as the broadcast. you don’t lay on your back not moving. You naturally get to ur hands and knees. Probably shouldn’t have let him even get back on the bike to finish Moto 1. Let alone start Moto. 2. Yes. I was there.
Getting the bike off him when the pipe is obviously burning something on the rider is not giving assistance, it is a medical emergency. Standing the bike up and holding it there so the rider can get back in the race is assistance. But you are correct, the ama or mxsports will screw it up somehow anyway. The lights instead of flaggers wont fix anything and I only see it getting worse. The whole thing is a dangerous clown show.

How did Hymas have a full 2 second gap on the field in qualifying? Had what a 6 second lead in moto 1 before he crashed? Why was he so much faster?
Now this is just my opinion. I think Hymas wanted to come out and make a statement because he’s feeding into the Deegan beef narrative that’s getting pushed and was riding it on the limit to make that statement and the other riders were simply not willing to do that because a lot of them have rode here before and know the track will bite you if you push it too much. Hymas has not been here before so he’s not familiar with it and I think that’s why his times were so much quicker at the beginning because of the willingness to push it harder versus the other guys and unfortunately the track did bite him because of it.

I was there today at the race and had asked one of the workers in parking how much he was making, he responded he had to make community service hours. He has all the same equipment as flaggers so who knows how they are getting people to flag

Jo and the wooden stakes.. yep, you can see if he was just a little further forward or back when he want down, a stake could ahve went right into his helmet through the google area or up under the chin.
I understand why they use wood, cheap and strong enough. BUT, at the very least, put something like a tennis ball, or a cut up pool noodles and jam 6 inches of them over the top of ever stake within a few bike lengths of the track.

That's scary but I hope you realize that the main way people end up in a wheelchair is from compression not flexion/extension. Going head first straight into something like a berm is the riskiest. In other words, imagine standing straight up looking straight forward and someone drops 200 pounds on top of your head. THAT type of hit is what blows out necks and causes paralysis much more than bending this way or that way. That's why neck braces are designed to stop your helmet from compressing too far toward your shoulders.
@MatthewC137 unfortunately I saw this 1st hand as my up and coming nephew hit a huge jump and clipped the front wheel on the landing. He went head/face 1st into the ground shattering his 6D helmet. Broke his neck, shattered a couple vertebrae and collapsed both lungs. Air lifted to trauma unit and went into surgery almost immediately. Fused 2 different sections with rods etc. We planned and braced that our 19yr family member would never walk again. The Dr's have no idea how the impact or fragments didn't puncture his spinal cord. 2yrs later he's walking just fine and living a normal life. He actually started riding less than a year later but nowhere at the same level. Anyway enough about all that and yes I agree the compression is the bad one. Thanks for listening. Oh I sold my bikes because that experience scared me so bad. I'm older so I wouldn't recover like my nephew did.

@MatthewC137 it was definitely a rare case towards the positive. I thought for sure he was paralyzed and you're right it's not worth it. I sold my bikes and bought a wakeboard boat. Sure boating can be dangerous if inexperienced drivers or alcohol is involved but hitting the water sure feels better than slamming into the dirt.
@@markmcmahen9442 I don't wakeboard but have to admit that I ride my Grizzly 700s and Raptor 700 more than my YZ. Yes still dangerous but I trust myself a lot more on those quads since being on 2 wheels is what tempts me to really go big. All my broken bones happened on 2 wheels!
