This is the first time I've seen a video by you Greg. I'm quite frankly taken aback by the concise, relaxed and comprehensive manner that you easily command. I rarely comment on anything online (3 times only), but I felt compelled to give kudos after watching this instructional video. You are easily one of the very best and effective online instructors.

*_My Casio PRW2500 is absent its titanium bracelet: but my PAG240T has it. Bought it preowned & beheld as I was wearing it, the appendage that secures the link jutting out & my link was loose. Took it home & to no avail couldn’t fix it. I sat it in the window sill mourning that I couldn’t wear the timepiece because of the bracelet. I pondered discontentedly buying a resin band for it just to get ‘some’ joy of wearing it._*
*_Pulled this video up & to my amazement you covered more than the operation of the module but also integral need to know information about the bracelet. All I had to do was insert the tiny piece that secures the bar into the link, on the opposite side & voila. Thanks you sorely sir‼️ I’m now wearing my PAG240T with joy. You are amid my three favorite watch reviewers on You Tube: Greg Anderson, Watch Geek, & G-Shock High Fashion._*

Excellent watch in every manner, but it has one serious flaw - it is very prone to scratches. Bracelet is made from very soft titanium (I own a Citizen titanium watch too and it is not prone to scratching as nearly as much this one), the bezel is made of painted aluminium (even worse) and body is just a painted resin/plastic.
So, if you're gonna wear it all the time, expect that it's not gonna look pristine, even if you take extra care of it.
Regarding functions, I found that compass needs to be calibrated often and tends to drift too much. Alti/baro/temp sensors are quite good, but you have to know how to use them properly. Tidal graph also needs to bi corrected once a month.
Multiband 6 is a great feature to have and works like a charm (in Ireland at least). Battery is always fully charged for me, so no issues there either.
Finally, it sits perfectly even on smaller wrists because it has some "fins" that keep it in place regardless of your hand size - and this is a big watch, and I would say quite heavy considering materials.

When using the compass function, you stand and face the desired direction you want to go and hold your watch as though you were going to read the time except you keep it level. (The bezel North indicator must be in the 12 o'clock position as well.) That puts the North indicator on the bezel ring directly pointing ahead of you, ie...the direction you are walking). Then you rotate the bezel so that the North indicator on the bezel aligns with the watch's electronic sensor north indicator. The result, on the bezel, pointing directly forward, will be the heading that you are walking towards. You will keep this heading pointing in the direction you are walking in order to follow a line of bearing. For instance, if the end result was 345 degrees, every time you check your watch, you should be walking directly towards the 345 degree mark. You orient this by turning your body (watch held in front of and in the attitude of reading the time, except level) so that the electronic compass north indicator points again, to north on the bezel. When that happens, you will be looking straight to where you are trying to go (which will be 345 degrees).
No doubt there is also a magnetic declination offset adjustment with this watch. Once set, the electronic north indicator won't point to magnetic north... it will point to map or true north. You use this for orienteering a map to your position and direction of travel. It isn't necessary to use this magnetic declination offset function if you are dead reckoning (ie ..simply keeping a bearing relative to where you were/to where you are going). But, the magnetic declination offset is critical and this function must be available in any wilderness setting where you are dependant upon a map to move through the unknown terrain. I hope someone can clarify whether this function has been worked into this particular watch.

Yes, it is. Properly setting up this watch takes a bit of doing, but it is superb.
I owned the previous version of this, and have been wondering why they quit making the best watch I ever owned, until recently when I discovered this new version. I wish it had a reverse display like my last one, but I'm buying it anyway. I'm thinking about buying a boat and living on it, and this is the perfect watch for that.
BTW, I believe the reason the bracelet is titanium is so it won't interfere with the compass. So I think the back may be something other than stainless steel...maybe nickle-plated brass?

Is there a way to toggle the backlight ON for extended periods of time? I have the 3500 model and it seems to have the same limitation. I'd like to keep the backlight on at night. IE. Maybe I want to change the settings without having to turn the lights on. The problem is the backlight only comes on for 1.5 to 3 seconds, which is only long enough to look at the time. I find this to be a massive oversight. I should be able to control the time I have the backlight on.

    • @GoodTimekeeper
      @GoodTimekeeper 3 года назад

The altitude setting is dependent on atmospheric pressure. The watch’s barometric pressure reading should remain accurate at your home but, as it changes because of the weather then your home altitude reading on the watch may change even if you are in the same place. So it’s recommended that, at the beginning of a hike or other event which will involve a change of altitude, you should set the altitude manually and then it should remain fairly accurate throughout that same day unless there’s a drastic change in barometric pressure during that day. So if I were you I’d probably make sure it was set to 30m before leaving home.

      PRW 2500
      EL Lighting (more uniform)
      Tide and Lunar data
      Duplex Dsiplay
      More info shown at once
      PRW 3500
LED lighting (brighter but has hotspots)
      Sunset and Sunrise data
      V3 Sensors
Stopwatch can go to 999 hours
      24 hr countdown timer
I'd say go for the 2500 if you want more data at a glance and are closer to the sea or have an importance in knowing the moon phases
The PRW 3500 is superior in terms of it having the sunrise and sunset data which is more practical for most people and having the sensors that are newer
In the end however ( I have both watches) I would rather use my PAW 2000 which has the duplex and the sunrise/sunset data and V2 sensors with the EL light, its also thinner than both the 2500 and 3500, it doesn't have the lunar or tide data however but I can always look outside for that and I live inland so don't have a use for the tide graph, but the 2000 isn't made anymore and is quite pricey, I've seen some sell for $600 but most in good condition are $200-350
