    This was a fantastic video. I have a beautiful guitar that was given to me as a gift by my family but I don't like the neck profile at all. I was looking for a way to re-shape it and your video gave me just the know-how to do it. Thank you very much for taking the time and creating this video and showing how it can be done with more common, non specialty tools. I really appreciate it!

    Nice work! I have a 1971 Yamaha Fg-75 Red Label. This model is made in Japan and my first real acoustic player guitar that saw lots of playing time, I have a Martin now as my player now but I still love the sound of the 50 year old wood and not easy to replicate that rich sound anyway I got a 23' Gibson Les Paul Chicago Blue Limited and that neck is the best I've ever felt and If I could get that shape, that acoustic would be a dream guitar. thank you for showing us your work, I like the natural finish and I will leave it but blend it in some.🙂

    Another great video Huw! Great information and puts the Guitar Mag on a serious footing. I have a 1981 ES150R in cherry and that has a "58" neck but luckily I like big necks. Keep up the great work Huw, it's outstanding.

    Awesome thanks! I'm getting a 67 V kit but the necks are 50s and a 67 Flying V should have a slim taper. And since the neck comes seperate and unfinished I can work on it easily.
    And I do have a 60s style Flying V, so I can copy that if I know how :)

    A problem with buying a guitar online is not physically trying the neck to see if it works for you. They give you all the specs and dimensions, but they can't tell you what the neck/fingerboard feels like. I have several nice guitars with necks that are way too fat for me

    Is it worth just using shoe shine method perhaps with scarping at the edges and omit the file? I am in no rush I just want an accurate job on my chunky necked parlour Thank you

      Use a heat gun tò soften the lacquer and you will be able to peel the finish away

    • @upload2352
      @upload2352 14 дней назад

      @@rockers2rockers616 Lacquer'd be nice, and definitely easy-ish, but mine's painted/poly. I'd need enough heat to loosen the poly that it would jeopardize the binding, if not the wood, itself.

      @@upload2352 Checkout the Channel '8Bomb Custom Workshop', Dr Nitro. As well as building high quality electric guitars and pickups, Dr Nitro (Nitrocellulose) also refinishes guitars and his skill is second to none and I would say he's the best. His main job is restoring medievel churches in The Ukraine and Russia and he specialises in colour restoration of murals by hand. His knowledge of paints, tints and more is incredible and he applies this knowledge to his refinishes. Anyway, he refinishes a cheap Fender Stratocaster and removes the poly with a heatgun then refinishes the guitar. But check it out cos what he shows you is priceless and he is that good.

    Hi, I have a 50s L4C with mods, so it's a player. I hate the shape and wonder if I would run in stability issues when reshaping the really thick neck to a more 60s slim taper neck?

    I have a tokai love rock and a Daisy Rock guitar. The Daisy rock guitar neck is smaller since its made for girls. Would you recommend shaving the tokai love rock neck down so that it is similar to the Daisy Rock?

    • @Vintage35MM
      @Vintage35MM 10 месяцев назад +1

      The Love Rock is a very sought after guitar especially in USA, due to import restrictions. I would not recommend mods to neck. If you don’t like it, many will stand in line to buy it as is.

    Careful when doing this, shaving down the neck might change the natural tone of the guitar.

    I started this video and about 10min in, decided to just hack away at my neck with a pocket knife. It's done but it's ugly as all hell. Don't be me. Watch the video.
