    I thought he was dead.
I had a silver flute head with a gold lip plate made by him around 1970 (Flute Makers Guild)
    Cost 100 pounds.
But I had him to shamfer the mouth hole slighty as it had to 'edgy' a sound.
Had it made for my full silver Rudall Carte flute.
How it sounds can be heard if you look up on Y/Tube: Bob Downes, Birth of a Forest.

Thanks. I didn't get the wire trick to hold the lip plate in place. I mean how was it attached to the lip plate?

Hi Tres, to hold the lip-plate assembly on the tube to finally solder this on I just take a length of iron binding wire about 5 inches long and take this around the riser and then twist it so that it cannot come off. Take this twisted wire so that it comes out from the front of the lip-pate, It does not want to be tight. Put a second wire on and take this the other way, under the lip side of the lip-plate. Gently flux the riser and place where you want it on the tube and take the wires under the tube and twist them together as per the video. Not too tight! I hope that helps.

Hi Frederick, many thanks for watching. I am assuming that you mean soldering the lip-plate onto the tube. I use a lead free solder called 'Stay-Bright' for this and it works really well. Flows beautifully and as the name suggests stays bright in colour.
