Needleman not only projects a winsome manner but displays, it seems to me, a deep wisdom; this great interview is no exception. Thanks for posting. It makes one wonder how he has actually lived his financial life--if what he's learned and written about has resulted in an economic practice unlike those of most people in his class.
If you have an intimate relationship with someone, you will likely offer value to that person without immediate tangible return on investment. You can have some sense of whether a person that you personally know is reciprocating your relationship over a long period of time. That is impossible with strangers. In order to have reciprocal trade with strangers, you need either to have something that you both need on hand (like food maybe), or you need a medium of exchange like money. So, money is what makes sophisticated cooperation between strangers possible. We have a major issue that our "money" is dishonest. The central bank has no government oversight, it can make unlimited "money", this money is loaned at interest, but the money to pay back the interest was never created. Private banks work the same way, except that they have government oversight. The whole banking system is a parasite which is crippling the economy. I think part of the reason our morals are sliding is that our money is dishonest and parasitic. As I said before, money is necessary for sophisticated cooperation between strangers. Without honest money, there is not honest relationship with strangers. Edit: No, there are people who understand it. They either run the banking system, or they are ignored, or they are called fascists.
How are morals sliding? You make this massive assertion in passing as if it’s obvious. (Given that you complain about being called “fascist,” I suspect I know roughly what your answer will be.)
It could be except there is a caveat which is inflation. Money is a liar. The things you could have purchased yesterday with $1 now cost $1.50. Its dishonest.
What has money become in the minds of people? Without understanding what the mind and heart is in essence and what shape them (condition them in this life) we can hardly begin to understand what anything is and how it can best serve the realty of life and not just a life we might be seeing through a glass darkly.
Look up the veil of money. Ask or remain in front of the question what is money- not so much to kill the question into an answer, but widen or deepen it, or just ask'how do I*experience* money rather than I know *All* about money so that is the end of that, and straight back to sleep
I have to question that the question is better or has more value than the answer. if he doesn't realize that spirituality is all about the everyday life, he must be lost. To recognize how commercialized our culture is, is sooo obvious. This is not news. After 11 minutes of listening, I come to the conclusion that he has nothing important to say. Great though for a school for fools.
Such a gorgeous, warm, intelligent and compassionate man. One of the most noble men of our times.

I will miss Dr. Needleman, we will join Jacob soon enough. I enjoyed listening to his carefully chosen words.

Money is the only thing one can trust. It is absolute.

Why is it in the hands of the undeserving then? Like someone who accidentally made a lot of money from stock market?
