In this two part video I do a complete teardown of a Roomba Discovery 4000 series robot vacuum and explain how the parts can be used to build your own robot.
Thanks buddy, stripped down a roomba 400 I scored off eBay while watching your vid. The brushes didn't spin and we figured it down to a shredded cog by that motor you know the one. Nice cheap fix for a working roomba! Cheers man! X
Thanks Dean. You saved me tons of time fixing my Roomba. I probably would've ruined it without seeing your teardown first. I am looking for your Urban Robot hack.
Ran into this teardown when looking for repairs on a model 4100 red roomba doing the circle dance (now 15+ yers old). Used instructions to remove covers. Applied compressed air to clean out. Now works like new. Roomba customer service was useless as the best they offered was to buy a new one as they do not sell this models wheel assemblies. Totally useless B.S. For best, painless results on cover replacement is to buy some "blue tack". Use a pinch onto the end of your screwdriver to hold screws on while re-fitting. Good video -- thanks
good video for most repairman that wants to repair or use as a robot i repaired so many ,and turn many into robots using ros software and also driver from roborealm to control it from software using SCI COMMAND AND PORT it does need on some firmware update, made many updates to roomba"s,so roomba by its self is a great easy robot, using the sensors and auto charging base hookup
I followed your video to tear down my old red 4000 series. Changed out the brush motor and replaced. Works fine on floors but really noisy. But when it goes to even light carpet it changes running pattern, brushs runs slower then stops. Robot runs still for about another minute then just stops and sits. If it returns back to the floor it starts running the brushes and resumes pattern. Have no idea what to look for to fix this. Thought it might be a weak motor I purchased.
@dinomaui thanks for the response. I can see that the brush doesn't turn when run without the dustbin, and if I use finger to force it, it turns for a second or two and gets stuck again, so hopefully it just needs some cleaning.
one add on is second battery relay and charging design circuit,KINECT BOARD for navigation, motor upgrades on roomba with all vacuum and main motor and side motor removed it can handle up to 35 lbs 3 ports left over 2 500 ma and 1 1.5amp for controlling there is a few windows controllers like ROBOREALM,or ROOMBA STATUS that gives you data on all sensor and battery current level, besides controlling, you will need usb to sci cable ,make your own or get one from IROBOT,MANY DIY sites for making
Hey, I ripped apart a few roombas recently, and now they don't power down/up unless I remove or insert the battery. Essentially the power buttons don't work at all. Do you have any idea which wire I mashed in order to make this error occur? Just checking as you seem to have a pretty good idea of what the components of the robot are. Thanks!

Thank you really appreciate this video you're the only one that actually showed how to take it apart
Thanks for the video Dean! Helped me get my 4110 roomba back into working condition!

Thanks for the video. The consumable spare parts always cost us a big deal but you may get some opportunity reviewing them for free on Amazon.

If I just need to clean or replace the brush deck motor, how far do I need to disassemble in this video?
Boy, am I glad I'm not breathing in all that dirt and shit!
may romba works fine bat not charging
what is the dirt sensor called?
Ian Chetcuti dirt detect
I could do this a whole lot faster with a hammer
