I didn’t know how much I liked gorp-core until I moved to a much colder climate where I had to switch up my style to fit my living conditions. You should make a video on how fashion changes in different regions in the world.
I love that you are so well-spoken and deeply digged into the whole fashion thematic. Makes me actually feel like I'm learning something watching your vids.
I would personally classify ACW as a more techwear dystopian type look but still great video would love to see you do a breakdown of japanese americana
These two past years I’ve been in my Japanese americana with the introduction of work wear and i admit it started from the trend but I’m still coming back to it every time and while I keep doing research i keep falling in love with it even more! Great list man!
+1 for Americana/Japanese Americana. I'm a little older than you and I'm an engineer that works with blue collar workers, so classic Americana is my go to for a timeless, business casual look that I can work in some more fashionable pieces from some of the MiA and Japanese brands. Kind of like a grown up workwear in a sense. I'm all about vintage RRL right now. Edit: to add, I have been heavy into the solid black/earth tones the last couple years and while I think it works for me (I don't like bright colors and most patterns) Ive started to work in a pop of color here and there. Like I just picked up some super dope vintage Paisley button down shirts (one in brown/cream, one in grey/cream, one in maroon/gold/Forrest green) and wear them underneath a chore coat or similar jacket. Kind of is like a modern version of a cowboys paisley neckerchief/bandana.
I also used to be into strictly tonal looks and I found a good way to introduce color for me was through my footwear. I would even buy separate laces to just add that tiny pop of color I wanted
@@wystan8995 same man, it can be hard to find the right shade bc I don't like it to be too flat orange or too brown but I have a couple pieces that are great. One being the Taylor stitch jack Cone Mills cord in tobacco. Really unique material, instead of regular corduroy it looks like if you'd take two slim verticle rows of the corduroy threading and twisted them together to form a single, spiraling cord. Apparently they used one of the last bits of material from the mill before it was closed. I really like a lot of Taylor stitch's pieces, especially the unique materials. I know they could be considered basic to some people really into fashion and current trends, but a lot of their pieces fit my personal style really well which I think is ultimately more important than going with the new tic tok fashion trend that's going to look dated in 15-18 months
I’m a big fan of story mfg even though I’ve never purchased any of their pieces … thank you for putting me on ! Wish the prices were a little more affordable but I completely understand why the price point is so high for such a quality brand… hoping I can purchase one of their pieces sometime in the future once I have enough money ! Once again Drew, you killed it with this video… you’re one of my favorite RUclipsrs at the moment and I’m low key obsessed with your videos.. appreciate your Chanel and hopefully I can meet you one day !
A brand that really stood out to me lately is A kind of Guise, worth checking out! Strong colour game, mad fabrics. Stores to recommend in Amsterdam would definitely be Oallery, Tenue de Nimes and Concrete. For some vintage I would check out Concrete Matter; they are mainly into Americana/military vintage gear. Personally I love to use some of their pieces to elevate an outfit. The NXT museum in Amsterdam North would be worth checking out on a day off as well. Can’t wait to see some familiar spots in the upcoming vids!
It feels like you'd enjoy the Thorogood moc toe boot, they are suuuuper comfortable for standing and walking all day. And they have that cool vintage vibe aswell.
Amsterdam recommendations: Restaurants: Möders - famous dutch food The pancake bakery - super delicious pancakes & waffles Stores: Patta - streetwear / boutique (similar to kith) BenG skate shop Solebox - super dope sneaker store Oqium - another sneaker store Activities: Highly recommend doing a boat tour around the canals “Coffeeshops” if you’re into that Amsterdam was one of my favorites during my time abroad in Europe last year. Would love to see a vlog of some sort!
Best part was scimming the comments for brands I have never heard and loving em. Would love a Japanese Americana vid. Have always been drawn to that style
For SURE make a video all about Japanese Americana. As many mainstream people you see rock it, it is very underappreicated! Love seeing people shed light on the style.
What Jerry and Kanye did in 2015-2017 with Grudge has been my fashion inspiration since 2015. Work wear cause it’s madd accessible in thrifts here in Indiana and I love things made in the USA. NB v5 are my favorite because they give me the 2016 runner aesthetic like the Y3 pure boost or ultra boost, and I love American Heritage brands. Carhartt, Dickies, Levi’s, Hanes Adidas. All that was to say Grudge. Sara Gilbert , Kurt Cobain and Steve Jobs are all people I look to for outfit inspiration. Also this isn’t related but Noname is my favorite rapper, I love you Noname.
Also apart of the aesthetic is anti consumption. So I buy things that age into new things, like denim. Handmade leather shoes that I image will last me a long time.
I'm gonna try to keep this concise lmao... it really starts with Timdessaint. That dude is a fashion whiz. He was the one who made me fall in love with chelsea boots and turtlenecks. One of my biggest style inspirations are RUclips channels, and rn I would say that the ones who influence me the most are Timdessaint, Harry Has, TheModestMan, and... you. You in particular have introduced me to some very interesting people and brands, like CanoeClub or raygmiah. My love for chelsea boots is the other biggest inspiration for my style journey. What was originally just a search for a good quality, good value boot turned into me having an extreme appreciation for footwear.(very funny how one thing leads to another) Some people just see an expensive boot, I see the workers hand-crafting my boot, its heritage, history, the unique leathers, the tannery, the founders of companies, the animals used to make a boot, and the construction. It's honestly beautiful to look at the heritage of old shoe makers, or seeing up-and-coming brands shake the game. I build my outfits starting from bottom-up meaning that my choice of footwear for the day is going to define the rest of my outfit. Since I got into old-timey service boots, I've been leaning towards Americana and Japanese Americana(please make a video about that). And when I wear chelsea boots I tend to lean to the more modern/dapper side of fashion. Lastly, I've realized that fashion is more than how you look, it's also about the vibe you give off. Clothing has history and meaning behind it, and what you wear is almost like the story you tell. Ik it sounds cheesy but if you think about it, it's also true.
A few months into living out of Tokyo and been taking advantage of it more and more. I've been big on more refined Japanese Designer aesthetics. No pants fit me better than the Issey Miyake Homme Plisse line up and since its more affordable out here I frequent their different flagship stores for new releases. But domestic brands out here sell a lot more affordable at second hand stores so it's great to just look at the selection of pieces that are more rare or expensive back home and taking advantage of it. Been big on Issey, Aura Lee, Lad Musician, and Kapital.
Been into workwear since 2018 mainly due to financial accessibility, it’s dress up/ dress down versatility, and it’s empty-canvas like balance to have eyes drift towards my footwear (of which I spend most of my clothing cash). At first I was all into mixing and mashing different types of sneakers (predominantly Nike: Jordan’s, af1’s, air max line) but have begun to evolve and transition into the realm of new balance and doc marten (definitely started post college as well, 2021). Nonetheless I completely agree with your take on sustainability and purchasing second hand. My love for second hand vintage and art has also progressed into the integration of self expression in my clothing as well, we’re talking doing my own custom alterations with pants, button up’s, jackets, and even sneakers (to which I’ve had some nice lil success). All in all, my love for the materialistic has slowly digressed into a more fond appreciation of diy and custom work to both embrace the niche of sustainable fashion while continuing to stand out from the bubbles “tote-boy loving”, “Pinterest addict”, and “expensive-consignment only-type” of heads that have over-saturated the socal region.
Been heavy into Japanese Americana and I've bought a lot of stuff recently, would love a video on it and even fit inspo would be awesome. Keep doing what you're doing. Peace, Love, and Positivity.
luvd this! smthing i realized was that i enjoy brands/clothing that can be worn for male and female. not sure why but i think thats why i like watching both male and female fashion youtubers! its cool to see how different people and brands style different pieces then try to incorporate it with my own..! ps so cool hearing your going abroad, excited for those vids :)
I been more into vintage a lot lately, single stitching, old tags etc. I love vintage right now I love the fact that I get to find tees that people won’t have and how old it is. Everything about vintage is just my favorite right now. I’m expanding my style a lot and making it a” mature look” my style from a year ago to now is so much more different, my last year style was having prints on my jeans bungee cord jeans 😭 pants like that and really loud shirts. my style now is like nice straight jeans, nothing crazy on the jeans, converse nice faded black shirts or white or sudden faded washed colors like green etc. my shoes I’m expanding to more into boots I just bought my first converse a month ago and I love it so much the converse for me is like the shoe that made me get into boots and soon will buy boots and I love my converse and best shoe I have right now, I used to buy Jordan’s and dunks and now I regret buying them it’s not me anymore and hate wearing them I only wear them if my girlfriend ask me too “happy wife happy life” (except gf) but yeah I have too kinda thing if she asks me too🙄 but it’s okay because it makes me like wow because like it used to by my style kinda thing so it’s cool wearing it again. But this felt good writing this down I don’t have friends and I can’t really express this to anyone about the love of fashion except my girlfriend but idec if people don’t read this I’m just glad to write this down. :)
As I start getting "older" I also find myself gravitating towards Japanese americana and other styles that kind of look more relaxed/looser fitting too.
Need that Japanese Americana vid Also my 5 are Japanese Americana, Boots, Vintage, Knitwear, and “street core.” First 4 encapsulating one style and street core representing the other.
Love this video! I’m huge fan of homie brands, some of my favorite pieces are made by friends. Vintage would be next since I reference a lot for my brand
i started fashion with vintage tees and now i’m too deep into fashion to ever go back 💀💀 i don’t buy much branded stuff but yea i get what you mean by stealing influences and i THINK ive found my own unique style great video you’ve got here rly cool stuff
Sustainability is also one of my priorities, and dawg, United By Blue, new favorite brand. I love workwear, and United By Blue got some awesome pieces, and their jackets are not too expensive, especially for a sustainable brand that is a non-profit. Thanks for introducing me to this great company.
I recently saw a video on the golf le fluer drop and tyler the creator was talking about wanting to make a bunch of clothes that looks good with brown its got me looking into brighter colors i've always been more into duller colors
I personally really like your channel and it's whole ethos and what it brings to the RUclips space, I constantly look forward for your vlogs and pick up vids. Also, I really really really like those brands you often showcase on your channel, the alds, jjjjjjjjjjjjounds and other, but I live in mauritius and those types of brand are completely inaccessible for me, but when shopping for new garms I try to tend towards pieces which carry the same " vibe" of those brands, I think that I owe a lot of this perspective to you and other creators that I've been able to get this widened perspective and mindset. So I like to thank you my g and really hope you get more recognition.
Yo Drew! Recently I’ve really been into Corridor NYC, Folk Clothing, Jungmaven, Soulland, & Lady White. All these brands are unique in their own ways but the Quality and sustainability is key within these brands. Longevity is definitely my goal when buying into new pieces. Also, I would absolutely love to see a video on Japanese Americana as Kapital & andNeedles are both in my wardrobe!
1. Bro, i JUST talked to you on Insta about moving to Boulder….I’m totally gonna hit up Canoe Club when I get there!! 2. Yes, please please do more Japanese Americana vids. That’s the content the people want (or at least I do lol) 🙌🏼
I don’t know anything about what’s in the Netherlands. So I can’t recommend anything, but excited for the videos to come from it!! Also please do a video on Japanese Americana, if possible, and it would be so dope if you also traveled to Japan one day!!
oddly enough supreme also got me into fashion. it was a joke because of the prices (and no way i was ever going to pay for that) but it introduced me into fashion so it will alway have a bit of a special place i my heart
I am huge into Japanese Americana, when I can actually afford it. I mainly buy raw denim from Japan. For me, I love unique and loud pieces. I like to look different and stand out. I am a New Yorker and have huge love for my state so I love supporting New York local designers.
have plenty of Han Kjøbenhavn and Our Legacy pieces. Check them out when you are in Europe. Also I recommend OAMC for some low profile but killer pieces and Craig Green or Greg Lauren, if you wanna be a little bit adventurous with your outlook.
I see people rocking gorpcore that I know for a fact hate the outdoors, and it does make me shake me head sometimes but I always temper my finger-tutting with the understanding that it’s okay for someone to be into something just for the aesthetic. Like I should have something better to do with my time than hating
I think a Japanese Americana vid from you would be really cool I know it can be difficult to get into if you don’t know what your looking for and I would love to see your thoughts on it
well done Drew. fit + utility are critical for me. how does it compliment my body shape, do I feel good wearing it, does it do the job - warmth, breathability, protect against weather/elements, no things that pi$$ me off like scratchy, uncomfortable, pulls/tears/bunches up in wrong places, etc. if i can source used or from a local even better...stay up bless
fr my fav youtuber out there altso on tiktok im from denmark and i myself have alot of wood wood and love the brand. its very popular over here in denmark and hopefully it will go worldwide. much love from a 14 yr old boy in Demnark
Been learning a lot from you man. Having the same style influences I always look forward to new videos to listen to your insight. Been looking at japanese americana a lot these days. Also yeah, I’m getting into cardigans 😂
In Amsterdam, you should visit these stores: Patta, Sumibu, Commes Des Garcons, Stussy (all on Zeedijk). Ben-G, Daily Paper, Solebox and Filling Pieces are also very nice. For vintage definitely check out the Waterlooplein (the market) and Episode (name of a vintage shop). Hit me up if you want me to show you around in Amsterdam. I am from the Netherlands ! Much love. And great vids as always!
Loved the video. As for me I’ve been recently been looking at flare pants. I love the look of 70s fashion and definitely the music I listen too has influenced that. I just ordered my first pair and excited to find more.
I personally inspired by skater style since i skated myself so like baggy jeans n shit like and the same time i like that vintage millitary look and 70s rockstar look (bell bottoms, ringer tees)
I'm a big fan of the Japanese Americana subculture all around, especially in fashion. As cool as it is to see the revival of classic cars, motorcycles and cocktails etc., I think fashion is the area where the Japanese spin adds the most.
Very thoughtful, you must work hard on your scripts. It’s difficult to find accessible fashion channels so glad I found your channel today. The algorithm is working 😂
I’ve been into the brand Cav Empt recently, their graphics are interesting and I like the boxy fit of their hoodies. I also like the “if you know you know” aspect of the brand too lol.
I know this city isn’t actually in the Netherlands (it’s very close tho), but if you have the time go to Antwerp. Some crazy stores are located there + a lot of smaller more unknown brands/stores
Maybe you could make a RUclips video at some point talking about how skate culture has had a massive influence on fashion… especially when it comes to baggy/wide fitting pants
I feel like the gentrification of the second-hand market prices out a lot of people who would want to buy into that style and therefore they turn to the cheaper, mass-produced alternatives like urban outfitters, boohoo, etc. Or at least that's what it's like in the UK
If possible could you do a intro to Japanese Americana? Like entry level pieces would be cool, I want to get into the style more but don’t want to spend a boatload on a style I’m not 100% will fit
I'd love to see more in depth videos, focusing on each category you mentioned. Seems like there's so much more you could talk about and it would be shame to not do that
I didn’t know how much I liked gorp-core until I moved to a much colder climate where I had to switch up my style to fit my living conditions. You should make a video on how fashion changes in different regions in the world.
Great Great idea
I love that you are so well-spoken and deeply digged into the whole fashion thematic.
Makes me actually feel like I'm learning something watching your vids.
Thank you!
I would personally classify ACW as a more techwear dystopian type look but still great video would love to see you do a breakdown of japanese americana
same
Yeah it’s like techwear meets conceptual artsy vibes
See I am still in love with the earth tones rn but we will see how spring goes
@@DrewJoiner a step I took to add more color into my outfits was buying burnt orange garments. It works great with olives and browns
@@DrewJoiner I'll work in more olive, rust, maroon, and navy during the spring but that's usually about the most color I'll add during the spring lmao
@@wystan8995 same man, it can be hard to find the right shade bc I don't like it to be too flat orange or too brown but I have a couple pieces that are great. Apparently they used one of the last bits of material from the mill before it was closed. I really like a lot of Taylor stitch's pieces, especially the unique materials. I know they could be considered basic to some people really into fashion and current trends, but a lot of their pieces fit my personal style really well which I think is ultimately more important than going with the new tic tok fashion trend that's going to look dated in 15-18 months
i’m just impressed by everyone’s outfit creativeness lately 😤🔥🔥
I would love to see a vid more in-depth on Japanese Americana. I find myself mixing midwest workwear with it and love the vibes.
I’m a big fan of story mfg even though I’ve never purchased any of their pieces … thank you for putting me on ! Check us out, similar process lower price point 🙏
A kind of guise is super dope I almost made a video about them on Tik Tok
It feels like you'd enjoy the Thorogood moc toe boot, they are suuuuper comfortable for standing and walking all day. And they have that cool vintage vibe aswell.
I can listen to your voice all day, everyday, it's relaxing, and it doesn't hurt that you're so adorable
Amsterdam recommendations:
Restaurants:
Möders - famous dutch food
The pancake bakery - super delicious pancakes & waffles
Stores:
Patta - streetwear / boutique (similar to kith)
BenG skate shop
Solebox - super dope sneaker store
Oqium - another sneaker store
Activities:
Highly recommend doing a boat tour around the canals
“Coffeeshops” if you’re into that

have plenty of Han Kjøbenhavn and Our Legacy pieces. Check them out when you are in Europe.
Also I recommend OAMC for some low profile but killer pieces and Craig Green or Greg Lauren, if you wanna be a little bit adventurous with your outlook.
Check out common wealth management from Winnipeg and Wilder. Both are sustainable brands and Common Wealth management uses so many Japanese fabrics….
I see people rocking gorpcore that I know for a fact hate the outdoors, and it does make me shake me head sometimes but I always temper my finger-tutting with the understanding that it’s okay for someone to be into something just for the aesthetic. Like I should have something better to do with my time than hating
king 🙏🏼 need that Japanese Americana in depth vid
Drew going up! So glad to see the fam getting those opportunities!
Thank you Ray!!
I think a Japanese Americana vid from you would be really cool I know it can be difficult to get into if you don’t know what your looking for and I would love to see your thoughts on it
Hopefully I will get one done this week!
well done Drew. fit + utility are critical for me. how does it compliment my body shape, do I feel good wearing it, does it do the job - warmth, breathability, protect against weather/elements, no things that pi$$ me off like scratchy, uncomfortable, pulls/tears/bunches up in wrong places, etc. if i can source used or from a local even better...stay up bless
I look forward to these Sunday videos while I’m at work on Sunday’s

Been learning a lot from you man. Having the same style influences I always look forward to new videos to listen to your insight. Been looking at japanese americana a lot these days. Also yeah, I’m getting into cardigans 😂
Great video Drew, ACW is one of my top favorite brand
👊🏾
The Rjiksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Moco Museum are all worth a visit!
10/10 Thank you!
Boots are always the progression in menswear, that’s where my style progressed to as well
Glad that you'll come over to europe!❤ much love from germany I'll give you some stores in NL soon!
I am so excited to be in Europe! Thank you!
Loved the video. As for me I’ve been recently been looking at flare pants. I love the look of 70s fashion and definitely the music I listen too has influenced that. I just ordered my first pair and excited to find more.
Would so love to see a japanese americana fashion vid!
Great video per usual! Always so well spoken, I'm a lil jealous ahah
I personally inspired by skater style since i skated myself so like baggy jeans n shit like and the same time i like that vintage millitary look and 70s rockstar look (bell bottoms, ringer tees)
great vid drew
love your style
I'm a big fan of the Japanese Americana subculture all around, especially in fashion. As cool as it is to see the revival of classic cars, motorcycles and cocktails etc., I think fashion is the area where the Japanese spin adds the most.
Very thoughtful, you must work hard on your scripts. It’s difficult to find accessible fashion channels so glad I found your channel today. The algorithm is working 😂
😁🤝
I’ve been into the brand Cav Empt recently, their graphics are interesting and I like the boxy fit of their hoodies. I also like the “if you know you know” aspect of the brand too lol.
Vintage hippie story Mfg, JW anderson cosy vintage army vibe is king
I know this city isn’t actually in the Netherlands (it’s very close tho), but if you have the time go to Antwerp. Some crazy stores are located there + a lot of smaller more unknown brands/stores
I’ve like Japanese americana for a minute but didn’t have a label to name it. Thanks Drew!
I would love to see you talk deep into Americana style
Maybe you could make a RUclips video at some point talking about how skate culture has had a massive influence on fashion… especially when it comes to baggy/wide fitting pants
big inspiration 100k soon 🚀
I feel like the gentrification of the second-hand market prices out a lot of people who would want to buy into that style and therefore they turn to the cheaper, mass-produced alternatives like urban outfitters, boohoo, etc. Or at least that's what it's like in the UK
Would love for you to have a video dedicated to Japanese Americana
If possible could you do a intro to Japanese Americana? Like entry level pieces would be cool, I want to get into the style more but don’t want to spend a boatload on a style I’m not 100% will fit
Vibes r too good this video 😎
my 5 would probably be vintage sport, pattern polos, workwear, surf, and east side early kanye west type style
I'd love to see more in depth videos, focusing on each category you mentioned. Seems like there's so much more you could talk about and it would be shame to not do that
!!
i want to learn more about the japanese americana
yes please make a video about Japanese Americana 🤩

I love the gorpcore and vintage ofc but I really love the cardigan and loafer look. Just always been too self conscious to go for it. ESP in Ohio lol.
You just gotta do it man! Bring style to Ohio haha
I love story mfg. Katy and sayeed are a great team.
two of the best!
I’ve been rocking with secondhand, minimalism and I guess I’d call it “ironic swag”.
imma comeback and watch this tonight but I had to leave a like and watch for like a min so it counts as an extra view for you
Bro I been having the biggest trouble with shape and just keeping it simple with tones my brain automatically goes to all black
