Fine episode. I never saw any of these originally, as I was just a young kid in the 60's, when this series first aired. I remember when it was on, though, & seeing Bob Hope in the Chrysler intros, knowing who he was from his TV specials, etc. Long ago days, indeed! First time I've seen Zimbalist in such a role, that wasn't a specific character from a series. He was excellent here. And Vera Miles was never more beautiful! She's always been one of my favorite actresses from that era, never failing to give a superb performance.

This was Efrem Zimbalist's first role after playing private detective Stuart Bailey on "77 Sunset Strip" (1958-64). Zimbalist was Emmy nominated for playing the dashing Bailey. He was 45 years old at the time of "The Soujourner".
Herschel Bernardi had played Lieutenant Jacoby on "Peter Gunn" from 1958-1961. Bernardi also received an Emmy nomination for his great performance as Gunn's friend on the force. Bernardi was 41 at the time of "The Soujourner".
Beautiful Vera Miles was 34 at the time of 'The Soujouner".
Director Stuart Rosenberg received an Oscar nomination a couple of years later for directing "Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman.

Wow. Had no idea EZJ could emote. Impressed. Vera's always perfect. And I like Warren 'not quite a leading man' Stevens, too, darn it.
    Rest in joy, players.

Efrem, Vera, Hershel, Howard -- each 'at the top of their game' -- especially Efrem for a strong, change-of-pace performance from Stu Bailey ["77 SS"] and Inspector Erskine ["The FBI"]. While Efrem and Vera 'carry the show' 'hats off to Howard for such a fully dimensional performance in an awkward circumstance for all involved.
    . . . . . . .
I know I'm 'preaching to the choir' when I say "oh, how I wish we could see the missing four minutes from the network length print. The melancholy Efrem feels with his father's death I thought might trigger a visit or call to his son -- who might be a teenager by now. For the soft-touch viewers we can only hope his future with the (unseen) French love interest turns out well for both of them.
    . . . . . . . .
I'm with every one of you who are fans of Vera. Sadly, while she's still 'with us,' she doesn't appear to have done press or sat for an interview (print or video) since her retirement to Palm Desert in 1995. What did Linda Hamilton and Jim Belushi have to say about Vera, their co-star in her final screen role, "Separate Lives" (1995)? She is SO FORTUNATE her pregnancy made her unavailable for "Vertigo" for which Alfred Hitchcock wanted her to star. We've learned from biographies how the acclaimed, respected director made life hell -- professionally and personally -- for Kim Novak and Tippi Hedren, Hitchcock's quintessential blondes yet TOTALLY out of his league.
Once again, thank you, 'sfinthecity,' for another vintage hour of quality entertainment. I'm afraid they're like peanuts -- once you start in on them, you can't stop -- what with the embarrassment of riches you've provided on RUclips.
