    Westbrook 54% shooting with 9 assists, 58 points. The reason they lost is because their defence is poor.

      But lebron hasnt received an MVP with Irving and Love so why would you even bring that up lol and the lakers only had the best record in the West for 3 years (which kobe won an MVP). on top of that I never heard anyone say that kobe was out of the conversation just because he had Gasol. Kobe came in 2nd and 3rd place for MVP the other two years you are talking about and even came in 3rd in the 07 season when the lakers finished 42-40 so he was always in the conversation but somebody just deserved it more those years...I dont even like lebron but he deserved the 08&09 MVPs so what are you talking about.

      Fabian Garcia he's 42-20 and in the east. They're 28-10 in their conference compared to 14-10 in the west. That's very mediocre especially with the team he has. Kawhi is definitely above lebron in MVP voting

    People are forgetting that MVP does not necessarily stand for the best player with the best record. The MVP is the most valuable player to HIS team. The Thunder would be down there with the Nets without Westbrook. While with all the other candidates they all have likely chances to still make the playoffs.

    The thing that sucks about defense is that basic numbers don't quantitatively measure its importance. Kawhi Leonard is the most complete player in the NBA if you think of offensive and defensive efficiency. I didn't say the BEST or MOST SKILLED. But 'skill' isn't as important as efficiency. Kobe Bryant was a perfect example of that. I don't care how skilled or talented you are...if you take 22 shots and make 9, the guy who makes 12 is a more efficient and valuable player because he does more with the same amount of opportunity. People knock Kawhi for all of these variables that are more about emotion than logic when the simple truth is, he gives you 26.3 ppg while only needing 18 shots a game and a shooting line of 49/39/89. So he's offensively efficient as all time great shooters like Larry Bird, Steve Nash, and Steph Curry, but is also the premier wing defender in basketball hands down. The only other player in my lifetime that could make that claim was Michael Jordan circa 1988 to 1990. But defense never gets enough credit because most people only look at blocks and steals as a metric for your ability on that side of the court. He's the MVP. The Spurs are on pace to win 64 games and the clear dominant guy on that squad is Kawhi Leonard.

    Russ won't win MVP. He deserves it though. He is averaging a historic 30 point triple double, while being the leading scorer in the NBA. He has a higher player efficiency rating than James Harden. He is also much better defensively than him. On top of that the only player to score more in the fourth is Isaiah Thomas.

    • @nerdiniss
      @nerdiniss 8 лет назад +4

      Much better defensively? Players guarded by Westbrook shoot 46% and players guarded by Harden shoot 38%. Harden and Westbrook average nearly the same blocks and steals, harden having the slight edge in steals and Westbrook having the slight edge in blocks. And on top of that, when they've played each other, Harden has won 2/3 so unless Westbrook goes on an unbelievable winning streak and takes 4th in the west, he lost his chance

    I don't think Westbrook can be MVP when he keeps getting all these triple doubles and 40 point games and they still keep losing. The MVP shouldn't be about stats, it should be about who leads their team to success, and okc is nearly at the bottom of the west in playoff standings

    • @topnotchblood
      @topnotchblood 8 лет назад +9

      Exactly. An MVP has to be able to elevate his teammates to a respectable level of success. Otherwise what he does is just stat padding for the sake of stat padding.

    • @crhuynh8
      @crhuynh8 8 лет назад +6

      Evan Alayan It is all depending on how you define what MVP is.
      If it is based on the best player of the best team in the league, it is KD. However, kd is now injured and he has so much controversial off season, he won't win. Therefore, the next in line is Kawhi - best player of the 2nd best team by a good margin.
      If it is based on the best player of the league, you may say the Marshmallow. However, after this Marshmallow has been exposed to try to buy a championship than competing, especially now he has the most stacked team with the highest payroll of all time and playing in the weak east. He has been disqualified for MVP race (Esp if we are disqualifying kd for the same reason for having too much talents). The next line is Kawhi the best two way player in the 2nd best team.
      If it is based on the most impact player, it is Westbrook since he is having a historical triple double avg season (the last one is more than 50+ years ago) and also doing more with less especially the second best player of the league kd left. However, due to the team record, he most likely won't win. Therefore, again, the next in line is Kawhi. Not only taking over the leadership role after TD retires, but his production has also been improved significantly while still playing elite defence. Most importantly, the spurs is winning. They also have a good chance of winning the best team record in the league.
      You may ask what about harden. Honesty, harden is irrelevant all year long.
      First of all, he has no D Esp comparing to kawhi. Even though he may not have any def awareness and iq, the worst part is that he has never been willing to commit any def. All he gives us excuses after excuses.
      Secondly, even though he may be known for his offence, he is not as great as he really is if you look at his beyond his inflated numbers. He has never been an efficient shooter (he gets his points via high volume, especially flopping for easy points - summer school league called him out for flopping). Even though he may be a decent passer, he is again getting assists via hogging the ball more than 90% of the time and dumping the ball to his shooters while playing under one of the best offensive system (d'antonio's). If he cannot get double digit assists, he should be sent back to D league.
      Lastly, everyone seems to bring rockets winning record as harden's main argument for the MVP race. But the problem with that argument is that the rockets are winning because of d'antonio and the team Esp after harden singlehandedly destroyed the whole team a year ago. Without d'antonio, rockets would be dysfunction like last year under harden's selfish isolation isolation and leadership. It is why rockets are building the team around d'antonio system rather than harden as harden is now simply a product of d'antonio system. However, even with the rockets record, spurs under Kawhi leadership is still much better, especially the last game Kawhi showed harden who is the real MVP. It is not just about putting up numbers. It is all about committing and doing it all in both ends of the floor.
      Therefore, if I need to choose a MVP for this season, it is Kawhi. It is not even debatable.

    • @riedstep
      @riedstep 8 лет назад

      Evan Alayan you clearly don't understand what an mvp is. the only reason why the thunder is not dead last is because of westbrook. without him they are basically the nets. he improves any team he is traded to for anyone other than lebron.

    MVP stands for MOST VALUABLE PLAYER. It doesn't stand for Most Triple-Doubles. Don't tell me what a guy doesn't have. Tell me how he makes the most of what he does have. The Cavs have the 4th best overall record and the 1-seed in the East, despite 2 starters missing extended time and having no backup PG or Center all season long. The Spurs have the 2nd best overall record despite Duncan retiring and Parker/Ginobili being shells of their former selves. The Rockets have the 3rd best overall record despite a new HC/System, Harden switching to PG and having to integrate new players. Lebron/Kawhi/Harden are the main reason each of those teams are contenders despite the challenges they faced. Don't make excuses for Westbrook.

Look at the nba you fool how many ppl have backup centers and who really needs them anyway. Yeah they didn't have a backup pg for most of the season cuz they didn't play him much they had a rookie pg. Okc was playing a rookie in their starting lineup most the season. And oh yeah they have Norris cole now but before that most the season Payne was injured so their backup was a guy who no one knows and 2k character is probably a scarecrow. Oh and cameron Payne is great right? They ain't have a backup pg but they gotta all star pg why you ain't say that

Adams oladip kanter and Payne missed games this season. Offensively Roberson is terrible dude. Their not excuses westbrook is the MVP. Take him off the thunder they would be like the Brooklyn "barely an nba team" nets. Take lebron off the cavs they'd have a good chance of still making the finals even more so cuz Lowry won't play in the playoffs. Yeah they lost duncan who was old yeah he still played well but he was old and also played like he was old at times. Okc lost kd and everyone thought they'd be garbage but their not

  • @josephho690

    One thing that Nelly and Skip Bayless failed to understand is that MVP is the Most Valuable Player award. Its not the "Best Stats" award. Just because Westbrook is averaging a Triple Double and leading the league in points, he is not more "valuable" to his team than Harden, Kawhi, or Lebron. Being the "Most Valuable Player" means your importance to your team success.
    Harden, Kawhi, and Lebron are much more "valuable" than Westbrook because at the end of the day, what matters more? Winning games or padding stats? The MVP award goes to a player who is the most valuable player to their respective team's success. Westbrook may be averaging a triple double, but its not equating to team success so he is not as valuable as Harden, Kawhi, or Lebron.
    Putting up great stats is one thing, but if your team isn't as successful as the other teams, then you shouldn't be considered more valuable when the other three players are leading their teams to wins.

      do u even know what most valuable player means bro. put off russ off the team, they r a lottery team. when russ is on the bench, they start losing a lead or losing by a lot. they wouldnt even be in the play offs with out russ. harden is valuable to the rockets, but put him off and rockets are at least number 8 or lower but not a lottery team. put kawhi out, they are still in the play offs. its already proven that when russ is on the bench, okc is like the brooklyn nets. okc lose games when russ is not getting triple doubles. yes russ could get more assists, but harden doesnt have a big load up his back like russ does. russ gives 100% every game.

    Westbrook is not the damn MVP. Don't tell me he doesn't have any shooters. When you shoot 25 shots per game, your teammates don't get much of a chance to get a rhythm. Russ had 3 teammates shooting better than 50% last night and NONE of them got more than 9 shots because RUSS SHOT THE BALL 39 TIMES!!! Plus, his team is a 7-seed. Gotta have better team success to be MVP.

    • @JacaboBlanco
      @JacaboBlanco 8 лет назад +1

      Cornell Cannon you just contradicted yourself. you said that if the others don't get enough shots, they can't get into a rhythm (implying they won't have a good fg %) yet you then admit that a few of his teammates had over 50% shooting yesterday, each with less than 9 shots.
      so you just contradicted yourself and destroyed your initial claim with your second .

    • @OmegaZeroX28
      @OmegaZeroX28 8 лет назад

      yeah but westbrook shouldn't be close to outshooting his TEAM that's ridiculous also i get what he means how do you know if someone gonna get hot when they shoot the ball only 7 or 9 times (roberson and sabonis shot 7 times and oladipo shot 9 times) we don't know if they gonna catch fire or not if they barely shoot the ball

    • @DeathPenguin1000
      @DeathPenguin1000 8 лет назад +3

      If your team is hot like that, they probably should've had more plays made for them. But Westbrook is the best stat-padder of all time and stats is all that matters I guess.

    Westbrook should win without a doubt. everyone acts like he isn't clear cut the best player in the league right now. He has nobody and they're still a playoff team in the West. Its not like he plays in the weak east where'd the thunder would be 4th or 5th. ask yourself this. if you took the spurs, cavs, thunder,rockets and took LeBron,leonard,harden,westbrook all off their teams. I guarantee you the thunder would miss Westbrook more than any other team misses their superstar. he is the most important to his team. making him the most valuable. oh and he's averaging a triple double. that's crazy.

    Westbrick:
    42% usage rate (highest in NBA history, no wonder why he's getting triple doubles)
    42% FG, "Westbrick"
    1.8 Assist to turnover ratio (Trash)
    Leads league in uncontested rebounds (Steals open rebounds that his bigs would normally get, only averages 2 contested rebounds per game, 8 uncontested)
    Average defense
    Poor basketball IQ
    Poor shot selection
    Poor pass selection (again, an abysmal 1.8 assist to turnover ratio)
    Without his freak athleticism he'd be nothing.
    "He's carrying his team" Against who? All the teams below the Thunder in the Western conference are below .500. You're not winning the MVP with less than 50 wins.

    Shannon, you can't say Westbrook isn't passing the ball, he's averaging double digit assists.
    he doesn't have anyone else on the team and they are still in the play-off race.
    Westbrook; it's inevitable for him to run out of gas. He's doing extreme amounts of work.

      I agree. I'm a Spurs fan and Kawhi never gets the credit he deserves but this year he had a slow start, and it's hard to win an MVP with popovich because right after those 4 straight 30 point games he just sat one out. I got Harden winning it, not in a landslide, but if he leads the league in assists and keeps his team top 3 (basically guaranteed) he deserves it. However kawhi has a chance if he takes 1 in the west and keeps playing the lights out, I just see him slowing down soon.

      He will also retire with more games and seasons than Jordan, so stat totals are for the most part going to favor LeBron. Averages is what counts. He will average more rebs and assists, but not points and steals.
      The first title run with the cavs was pretty good, but overhyped too. Lebron played the first 2 rounds vs teams who didn't even have a winning record. He did take over with Detroit, but they were only like the 5th best team in the league.

He is good, but has taken the most shots in the NBA and has a low fg percentage, has a bad team who may end up an 8th seed, and has a losing record against playoff teams. Not advocating for any candidate, but his triple double doesn't impress me because it's just a stat that at the end of the day is just a cool little trivia question.

      the man shot 54% with 58 pts, somehow getting 10 assists per game this season when OKC are a very poor shooting team

    I like how Nelly stuck to his point of view. Ath the end they tried turning on him. But hes right that teem is built for him

    Nelly "can't get past the triple-double", yet Westbrook is handed plenty of uncontested rebounds, leading the league in those and impoving on average by a few in those compared to last year. #64 in contested and only a few tenths improvement compared to last year. I.e. the stats are somewhat fabricated. Deducting a few of those uncontested REB's, no more trip-dub, Russ still MVP? That said, even with the trip-dub, what's the *value* in that without wins? Most valuable to his team yes, but so what... Pretty sure Cavs, Rockets and Spurs would be in a bind without their MVP candidates as well... Difference is they're getting W's. Maybe a more stacked team, but still, W's should count more than stats.

      ntnnot it doesn't matter what the other team does he goes out and gets it done in the matter of triple double go out and try to get a triple dub in a high school game or college or even a pick up game and you will know how hard it is if you play against actual competition
