Jeff, I believe the part that caused the problem is the oil defense pipe. It is part# 12385-ZE6-000. It can fall out and it goes into the upper half of the cylinder head. Their is a little clip that can bend and come loose when you separate the engine. I don't see one on yours when you put the engine back together. Take care and great video by the way.
@@JeffsLittleEngineService two years later so this is probably not relevant to you, but maybe the next guy sees it! I'm agreeing with Christine Henderson above - there is a small black plastic tube that directs oil onto the governor gear teeth. Being plastic in a hot oily environment, it can get rather brittle. I was just in my HRA214 engine and it was a challenge removing that piece without breaking it. If it broke while in use, it would basically fall into the crank/cam gears and get ground to pieces, just like you've got here!
16:00 I was holding my breath .. LOL ... Our shop replaces the aluminum crush washer every oil change on all Honda power products , Honda ATV's and street bikes ...
I just bought a HR215 MASTERS at an estate sale for $6.00 plus tax.. ONG.. What a great mower. My 1997 Toro Super recycler needed too much work(great mower) I stole this one. It has very low hours and the price makes it a true steal..
Bought one new around 2001 at a dealer. They were more like $900 + at the time. The newer equivalent shaft-drive models with hydrostatic trans in the 160 and 190 engines has been more like $750. The only thing "fancier" were the electric start models.

AWESOME information! I will look into this, thank you!
Do you know what its purpose/function is?

So I finally found the guy who tightens oil drain plugs to 250 ft/lb. Holy Jesus, He took 3 goes at it, lol. Just snug is fine.
I give you a lot of credit, that's a monster job!

I think the black plastic may be from an oil pick up tube. Not sure but I saw one in mine, assuming that’s what it is.
"Definitely don't want to hurt anything" - hits it with a hammer, lol.
lol!
Anyone know ow what size is the mulch plug for this mower
Love the dog, looks happy and full. Lololo
Can you convert at gcv160 to a dual blade configuration on a non-Honda mower?
yes
Jeff's Little Engine Service thanks
I wonder if the plastic is coming from the filter cover or gas tank?

NICE!
That plastic is from the push rod guide plate in the head. Looks like one broke apart and got sucked down onto the crankcase.
Excellent video Jeff. Good closeups and explanations.
I replaced the spring with a home made linkage for manual speed control. Ain't nobody got time for this lmao
What does this mower retail at back when it was new???
probably $600-$700

Didu check your carb or governor
Is this what you do for a fulltime job
If I were you, I would invest in a lift or something. Working on the ground bending over would get old very quickly!
Look under the rocker arms you will see
Looks like Honda has been working with Chevrolet Engineers to create a piece of shit.
Great video!
Hammer handle needs more duct tape!
Man I’d love to help, but I haven’t a clue.
>worries about bolts breaking
>uses an impact gun to try to take them out
