Would really like to see a recent upload of this machine with more detail. I'm interested in trying to recreate it to drill 144 hole rims for lowrider bicycles. Great content thanks for sharing.

      Hi Lethal,
As much as it would be fun to further document the jig, I can’t justify/afford it. Good luck in your endeavor,
      Ric

I would like to have a smaller version of this machine.

Hope someone makes it. Like a spoke machine with blank spokes, someone with a rim drill and blank rims could meet a huge range of builds with minimum inventory.

Ric, awesome job explaining this amazing machine! Marin Museum of Bicycling recently got one of these, and we were just trying to figure out what the heck it was. Now we just need some blank rims...

Hey Joe, Glad you liked it. If yours gives you more insight into function, has parts or details I miss or missing from mine, please let me know. In any case, enjoy it.

Sorry for a late reply. I'm going to make time to snap some shots of the angle device. It changes angle in the plane of the rim but not side-to-side (perpendicular to the rim plane). That's unfortunate, I wonder what they'd say, but I'm not interested in "improving" it.
      Thanks,
      Ric

That is one very unique and special find!

That is very cool! I like the idea of just stocking rim blanks and drilling to order. It means more labor, but less inventory.
    Well, in theory anyway.

The only addition I would make would be to accommodate modern mountain bike and fatty rims.
Fatty rims are really becoming popular in mountain bikes.

I really dig the 'stock blanks and drill em' idea. Always wondered why it wasn't a thing...
When a rim is offered in a whole bunch of colours, even a big joint can only offer pot luck to the punters otherwise... or wait 4-6 weeks for delivery.
Only bummer is that rims are usually anodised *after* drilling, for good reason. Still, I guess if you fill the nipple/rim hole gap with grease it should be fine.
