I was watching season two for the first time and now I realize the problem with some reactions. Akutagawa wasn't punched and shot for the sake of simple training, it was punishment. A lesson because he was genuinely unstable and constantly defying Dazai by killing hostages that held valuable information. He went as far as to attack Odasaku just because Dazai made the comment that oda was more skilled and stronger than anyone else which was most likely triggering to Akutagawa. Dazai wanted his subordinates to open their eyes and learn that mafia isn't all about killing, there needs to be logic and smarts included to make a stable organization and maintaining it is no easy feat if all your subordinates are mindless dogs biting everything in sight.
