Of course, and I'm sure that Carlini permitted it by playing Kd8 (like he "blundered" with Ke8 at 4:30 ). In a normal game he would have played Ke7 or Kf7. He even says it in the video: "You take the bishop then you take the rook."
Dylan Wong , well by taking the bishop you're allowing king to e7 and then you play Kxf8 to take the rook and he plays Rxf8 to take your knight with his other rook, so in the end points wise carlini will have lost 5 points from either scenario. Now if knight took bishop as you said (scenario2) carlini ends up with an active rook and he also got rid the troublesome knight. Hope I helped :)
