In a modern military engagement, with all the resources and supply lines of the state available to you, well, I can see why so many, especially younger folk, would not be able to look past an AR based platform. Personally, and please bare in mind that I’m a Brit and that my service days were back in the 80’s to early 90’s, I would still opt for my old SLR in such a situation, but failing that I would be happy with almost any M14 based platform. On the other hand, in a present day/near future SHTF/no rule of law/end of civilisation type scenario a mini-14 would definitely be my go to gun. Sadly, living, as I do, in the fallen remains of what was once, rightly and with pride, called ‘Great Britain’ I’m afraid that such sensible options are no longer readily available to us. So please, even if you never, ever, take any other advice from a Brit, I honestly beg you to take this one, never, ever, under any circumstances, let them take your guns away from you! If you do, you will never get them back! The USA is, I fear, the last hope for Western Civilisation. It is, I’m sad to say, too late for us on this side of the pond, though some of us, ex forces and others, have organised so that when the day comes we will, in the best traditions of the Anglo Saxon, make such a last stand as they will never, ever, be able to forget! I the words of one of my favourite RUclipsrs, “Be strong, be of good courage, God bless America, long live the Republic!” Take care and don’t give them an inch, that’s how it starts! Best wishes from the now dis(United kingdom), Mike.
Yeah, I do need better recording equipment. But I was trying to get the rifle and target all in one frame to show the Mini 14 at work. Kinda hard to do when the targets are 150 yards away. You just got to go full screen and squint your eyes at the bowling pin set up lol
Thanks, I got it from behind a pile of guns on the bottom back shelf at my local gun store not too long ago. You would have thought nobody wanted it lol.
Any issues shooting lefty with your face closer to that action? I once cracked a friends windshield with a casing that was flung 20+ feet out and back.
No issues, it ejects directly to the right and slightly elevated. It's 1000 times better than shooting a AR15, I get hot gasses and blow back in my face when I shoot one left handed. As far as your long distance ejections, you can cut that down with some recoil buffers and a stronger recoil spring. A rear recoil buffer at the recoil bushing will cushion the bolt, and that will cut down on your ejections. A wolff extra power recoil spring will also help keep the bolt from slamming back violently. There are many fixes for the Mini 14, if you are interested, you should join the Perfect Union Shooting Sports forums. They have a Mini 14 section with tons of info on these rifles: www.perfectunion.com/vb/ruger-mini-14-mini-30/

Nice mini. Looks like you had a great time. The mini rocks the bowling pins.
Thanks! My local range supplies the bowling pins, and water jugs, I just got the AR500 gong. I was like a kid in a candy store.
Nice...
Meh, I was having an off day. Video didn't come out as clear as I would liked it to, plus I was missing a lot.
Yeah, but you were also hitting a lot. Even with your misses the zombies would still be dead...or deader...or what ever they are...
Mini-14 goodness... Just bought a model 5819... Thx
Cool video, nice mini-14
