- The FR Skates are difficult to choose due to there being a number of seemingly similar variants at different price-points. Jake takes a closer look at the FRX, FR3, FR2, FR1 and FR1 Deluxe skates to break down the differences between models. Watch this buyers guide to decide which FR skates model is the most suited to your needs or budget.
We're showing all 80mm versions. If you're unsure what to buy, just stick with the 80mm verison.

Had the FRX as my first skate, can't say anything but great things. Found a (barely) used FR1 and now I skate the rockered FRX frames on the better boot, every day.
I've recently bought FR3 skates and I love them.
I decided to add 1 to my shoe size and it turned out to be a great decision. My shoe size is 41 and I went with a 42 and it fits fine, but it is a little tight, but I suspect it will start to feel better with use.
If anyone is considering buying one of these, I would suggest trying them on before buying to make sure you it doesn't feel too small.
I'm apparently the only person that moved their frames! I shifted the frames on my 4x80s to point inward a little and I did find it made a difference, but maybe that's just because of where my feet were putting the power through. Moving them forward slightly along with the cuff also made them more manoeuvrable as my weight was shifted to the front wheels, kind of like a rocker.
Did the same on my 4x90 frames and that was a bad idea, shifting that back!
Cuff bolts I've always had forward but I don't think it ever made any difference. I like a tight fit on the ankles so should probably change them to shift up.
Did you also rocker the wheels when you shifted the frame on your 80's?
In my case I have used several FR models and there are more differences than those mentioned.
I currently have the FR1 80 and the FR3 110, and the difference in the quality of the boot and in the plastics of the clasps and closures is also noticeable.
The difference in guides and bearings is there.
In my case, to begin with, I would choose the FR3 rather than the FRX... I think it improves many things for little money xD.
By the way, in the new colors they have released, the FR2 now have a metal closure.
I did change the cuff position to forward and it provides a much stronger resistance to forward flex, which I love.

Great review. I love my FRX skates! I actually did move my frame position on the FRX - you can slide it side it side which felt better as I learnt. However, I slowly moved the back to the middle as I learnt, so no, I didn’t need to! Now I skate the Seba CJ2 and you can’t move that frame!
I got the FR2 early this year, and i did adjust the cuff forward. I didnt like the fr1 because it doesnt have the rockering and I wanted to dip my toes into slamom skating. I do believe that the FR2 is a good balance for me

So glad with your outcome. I bought the deluxe model last year! Pretty happy with them. A bit tight, but I’m hoping it will mould over time. Not many hours on them yet.
Wow! This is absolutely amazing! Thank you sir! After nearly 30 years away from inline skating, I've recently rediscovered the joy of rollerblading. These days, I've been researching various FR products, and I didn't expect to come across this video! It's incredible! This is definitely the best introduction on the internet.
One thing to consider, by downsizing the shell, your toes get closer to the narrow end, combined with a narrower shell it might not fit wide enough anymore (sadly the case for me). It makes a huge difference though, until the point I can't feel my toes anymore the skates feel like part of the body 🥲 That's why I'm curious about the new Neo2, I heard it fits a bit wider in the front... Please also review the single density version, as I want a stiff skate 🙏
(I have to use the front hole for the Endless 90ES, because the thick screw head rubs the 2nd wheel with center hole... )

I always push fr2s or 3s due to the optional rockering system. Like it's said on here, for new skaters, I suggest FRXs

Great review! I ordered the fr1 a couple days back without knowing about the line up. Hopefully, it's arrives as a tight fitting skate. I plan to paint over some of the plastics and eventually upgrade the liner once it's worn out.
The FR1 Deluxe's smaller shell made the fit too narrow for my weird feet, so I went with the regular FR1 and I'm incredibly pleased with my decision so far. What I love about this entire line-up is just how much aftermarket support they have! I'm honestly looking forward to eventually having some parts go out so I can have an excuse to customize the colors 😂

Regarding the holes under the boot - I'm using the side mounting holes on FR/Seba frame to keep it from twisting on Seba High Light Carbon skates. I'm training freestyle slalom and for some tricks there is a lot of sideways force on the front wheel and frames on these skates tends to slip.
I've tried the thread glue for the frame thread but that didn't help a lot ;) I decided to use the one of the side holes so when I mount the frame, it's centered but the thread has better support on one side of the slot in the frame. @LocoSkates
There isn't much comparison info or videos on the UFR 90. It would be great to get a comparison on that.
I have the FR1 and actually do ride with the frames moved inward and find it more comfortable with my collapsed arches. A personal thing for sure but i do appreciate the option to move the frame around.

I have a 165 mount 4x100 wizard style frame that because of the mounting holes position, only sit right in the middle front-back wise when positioned on the front holes of the 3/7 holes mounting plates.. and also with 100s i usualy slide the frame over to the outer side of the boot to compensate with my supination.

In my case I was a FR/Seba enjoyer and went with FR3 because of the alu mount (but useless as you say), the ratchet mid strap that I prefer to Velcro, and the rockering frames.
But being a size Mondo 30, the biggest size 13.5 is too just for me.
And I am between 2 sizes for intuition liners which are also pretty expressive.
At the end I now use the Twister XT size 12.5 as a daily.
Also on the FR3 one of the wheel screw was so tight I needed to drill it at some point… very disappointed.
Actually, I just got the FR 2 Skates and have to shift the Frames, because both were all over the place out of the box. I'm still wondering if someone tinkered with the skates before me (like, got them, shifted the frame and returned for some reason) but the fact that the loctite is still in place and currely even caused an allen key to break in the axel screw of my right skate, which I have to remove to reach the frame, revokes that suspicion.
I wish FR would stop using so much loctite on the higher end skates, because at some point, most regular skaters need to change wheels or will want to change the frame.
One thing to point out from the FRX frames. These have quite loose tolerances and give problems with the bearings, also, they're quite heavy for what they are. I have two pairs of these frames and I simply don't use them.
Just bought some FR2s a few days ago. Still waiting for them to arrive.

I think the UFR should be in this video too. The utility of a UFS freeride/aggro skate which can be worn with or without a soul is huge. Every other skate that does that also has carbon and is in the $800+ range... and has a flat bottom so isn't really a true freeride skate in the soulless configuration anyway.

From what i've heard the Neo shell is really well made, very comfy and wide in the toebox, a slightly lower and wider arch on the mid foot.
Only thing i dislike is that the 110mm version is this ugly blue color, i just want black ones :(

How are the fr ufr intuitions? I have a size 14 foot so harder for me to get half the skates out there lol or at least the ones I like lol

What are your thoughts about the intuition liner not having an insole? Do you recommend adding one? I've had trouble with foot and arch pain on the fr deluxe, while my RB 80 pros feel great. I did try adding an insole but it was too much extra volume and pushed my toes up against the top of the toe box. Maybe a very thin insole would work. Any ideas? Thanks!!
I skate without the insole if I’m downsizing and need that last bit of space. Best to just try trial-and-error until you find something that works for you.
What roller skates would you recommend for someone who lives in a small country town with rough/bumpy chip and tar rodes? I prefer speed first, then comfort. When I say comfort, I mean less vibration. These skates will just be used to go up and down roads and sidewalks; no tricks or anything. Please give me a middle of the rode price for first recommendation and a budget recommendation. If it's the same model for both that's fine too. Thank you.
While I've never moved the frames, I have replaced the frames when upgrading from 80 to 90 and had to use the 190mm bolt pattern of the aluminum block to avoid the frame bolts hitting the wheels. I thought the metal buckles would matter, but I've crashed a few times and the buckles are fine. If you trash the buckles, you can replace them with metal ones. A good point you missed is that wheels/bearing don't last forever, so you will eventually replace them.
What a usefull Video thanks. I was wondering If i can turn one of those into a ufr, like does the Soulplate of the ufr fit on one of the models and If there is a ufs mounting Option?
The ufr boot is not identical to these fr boots. The ufr soul plate would not fit the fr boots without additional material being added.
The mounting Holes don't line up. You'd need to drill them in, but they do fit the bottom of the boot.
Question regarding color choice effecting boot stiffness. Especially with the luminous boots. Is it true that the black are the stiffest boots?
Not something I've heard. It's not unfeasible but I'd say the difference would be so slight that it's not noticable in a real-world scenario.

I have a strong opinion on Seba, not Fr, but close enough. I feel that I was suckered in buying a deluxe trix 2. The difference between the deluxe and the non deluxe edition is the flat deluxe frame. Now that sounds pretty much like this 4d frame at fr. However in Sebas case the difference was about 200 cad, and I don't think that frame was worth the difference. At least not for me. Again it is a totally subjective opinion and experience of mine, but since I'm kinda biased over fr/seba skates

Just 3 months and about 300 miles with the Intuition deluxe 80mm model, and I did switch the position of the cuff screw in only one skate to harden the flex and help with fitting issues. Great breakdown video of the FRs
