I particularly appreciate the reminders that dementia is NOT normal aging, and that there are several other causes of what might appear to be dementia in an older person, but is not, and these need to be carefully assessed, and treated appropriately. Four big things with LBD to watch for: Parkinson's like symptoms (tremor, shuffling), waxing and waning mental status, visual hallucinations/illusions and visusospatial problems.
Most useful for the average, heathy individual; what about a 73 yo M with a history of neurosurgery to remove a colloid cyst and years of chronic hydrocephalus? My neurologist tells me that "I don't pay enough attention to detail." Should I replace him?
