I found it interesting when Mary's boss called and didn't say anything, as I made a similar decision once. At a former job we had a no-show employee. Her cell was going right to voicemail, so I called the landline in her file. Her husband answered and said she was at work. I held off saying anything for two reasons: she had shared some really concerning instances of borderline abusive behavior in the past, and I also believed she was having an affair. I just did not feel comfortable saying anything at that point. Thankfully, she showed up soon after and it was just a case of her mixing up her schedule. You guys are the best, this is a great podcast!
Also its good to have a no text policy. I had a former co worker whose husband texted pretending to be her saying she was ill and it turned out it was him pretending to be her! Very dangerous to accept texts as managers
I agree...
I'm unsure if I would have shared with him that she wasn't at work..surely the police questioned the coworker as to why they didn't identify themselves to Jay...there had to be a reason.
Agree! I probably wouldn't have said anything. The boss probably didn't want to raise alarm or get her in trouble if she was playing hooky from work. Who knows.. But I don't find it TOO strange.
This case has haunted me since I saw it on unsolved mysteries 20 years ago . It’s haunting . Great job
„Galvaston is a different town, it has his own courthouse“ 😅😂🤣😘, this is something only a lawyer/prosecutor would say!
(love your soundtrack)
I remember this case from unsolved mysteries. I agree! Cannot believe it is not as famous as other cases. So interesting. Cant wait for part 2
43:00 You've hit the nail on the head with this. I've worked in customer service (as a supervisor as well) and taken seminars on how to handle different types of situations and one HUGE thing that is taught is to never assume a customers OR employee's personal life. So in other words, if I were her supervisor I would NOT have said anything to the husband because I just don't know if that could have some type of unintended serious consequence for her.
100%! I always thought the same thing when I first heard about this case. Everyone said it was odd that the boss didn't reveal she wasn't at work but I know a lot of bosses that wouldn't. At this time- they didn't think it was an emergency or cause for alarm. Great comment!
My new favorite podcast ❤️
Can’t wait for new episodes every week.
Interesting case. Look forward to Part 2.
Binging your podcast! I love the sound of your voices and how you interact with each other.
It's refreshing to hear about a case I'm totally unfamiliar with. Fascinating!
Mary McGinnis Morris was my nurse practitioner that gave me my physical the year she got killed. I worked at Union Carbide also. That case was really a mind blower for sure. Sure wish it would get solved.
Have you two considered doing a visual podcast? Would love to see your faces.
Why? For a start they're lawyers and being too upfront about your identity for people who have been and still are regularly involved in prosecuting criminals is probably a bad idea.
All I'm interested in when I listen to true crime anything is that they get the facts correct and present them clearly, concisely and with as little outright bias as possible, no whackjob conspiracy theories about "what really happened" or long-winded bollocks about how the presenter "is haunted by this crime - just devastated - will never be the same again after hearing about this - anyway buy my merch!".
That is very rare in true crime podcasts and I'm just happy for them to keep going as they are, doing things with a modicum of class, ethics and intellectual rigour.
I’m only 17 minutes in, but just wanted to say that I’m a nurse (in the UK) and at the hospital I work, we have to manually log out of all our computers. It’s always really frustrating when you need to read your emails or do some e-learning and find another member of staff is still logged on.
I never disclose if an employee is not at work to a spouse or family member because of security reasons.
Thank you for doing this in depth podcast! These beautiful women must not be forgotten and deserve justice that I pray they get one day. 🙏
Marylin Monroe, Maura Murry, Mary Morris....it seems to be dangerous to have these Initials! Its kind of cruel to wait one week for your next podcast!
Wait a minute, this claim that "Mary Luo leaves for work at 6 in the morning",was it just her husband's story, right? How do we know she was really alive that morning?
I dont think the supervisor not disclosing info etc is weird. Maybe she did not want to get her in trouble, maybe she did not want to create drama or maybe she just did not know what was going on so did not want to make a big deal about something “simple”.
That drawing will keep me up all night.
IKR? Very unflattering and creepy.
😂
Hitman I think. Not incompetent though, I think it was done deliberately to cause this confusion. The phone call about 1st killing a mistake. The wedding rings etc. The refusal of lie detector test. Bluff and double bluff.
Also placement of gun by husband and the burning of the 1st victim so cause of death not known. I believe it's a simple case of husband bumping of the wife. The first victim collateral damage. You will probably prove me wrong with the second part and look forward to this intriguing case!!!
Killing an innocent person just to kill your wife? That's foolish. Likely to get caught on the first murder, so why would it be worth it?
Great episode, can't wait for next episode.
I think Mike had both Mary Morris's murdered to detract from him. 🙄 can't wait to hear part 2.
I can totally relate to the Covid testing because I had one the other day..When I found out how she was going to stick those things up my nose not one but two I wanted to run..Thank God it was negative but it has taken me at least 2 weeks to get over whatever I had caught..Anyway love the podcast, and my prayers go out to everyone that was not lucky with a negative test result..
I live in in a suburb of Houston called Kingwood and Alice is correct, if I am going to Sugarland, Galvestion, Katy or Baytown I never say I'm going to Houston. I never say I live in Houston, I say I am Northeast of Houston, Also if Marys boss called her husband, I'd be interested to know if they tried Mary's cell first
In Phoenix, of course there are huge suburbs but as a whole we still refer to it as the East Valley or Phoenix. It really depends on who you're talking to. Most people don't even know about the suburbs unless they live there. Living in Texas, nobody I know refers to the suburbs of Houston individually. Even if they are driving to Sugarland, they just say they're visiting Houston. You're in the minority here, I think. Only Houstonians would actually expect others to know that Baytown is a suburb.
@@DIVISIONINCISION Perhaps, and since I've lived here most of my life I'm just use to knowing the suburbs and towns outside Houston proper
When you consider the phone call about the wrong Mary Morris, clearly there was someone who wanted people to think there was a hit out. Whether or not there really was a hitman, it would have been good to hear less about how bad a hitman would have to be and more about why someone would place that call, either if there were or weren't a Hitman.
I am from Lynchburg in Baytown and I'm pretty sure she and Jay lived in Lynchburg down the street from me. I was in high school at the time. Did she live in Lynchburg?
Yes
@@ProsecutorsPodcast i fn knew it! Thank yall so much, I called my life long bud that grew up in the same neighborhood and asked him about it and he recalled it and as of this moment he and I are bout to have some brews and catch up. I ain't bullshitin either. Yall rock 🤘
1st time I heard of this case.. Big plus my favorite podcasters are telling the story through their persona's
I created this portmanteau for you guys, but it sounds a bit rude, yet relaxing at the same time: Bralice!
This sounds like a twist on strangers on a train.
Could news from days earlier given someone else the idea to kill someone they knew who they wanted gone killed? Leaked info about ring and such?? So once they had the first Mary wouldn’t they realize up close this wasn’t the right one?? Would Mary recognize the killer or be able to tell and collateral damage? IDK That does seem odd. Doesn’t seem random that’s for sure. But not necessarily a hit man! The name Isn’t that uncommon considering how huge the city is. But if the first Mary was in the news it may have given the second Mary’s killers the idea to do so. That’s enough planning time! IDK just throwing ideas out! LOL 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😁 I’ve never hear of this case that I can recall! Thanks for sharing!
Listening for first time & never heard of case. But the insurance thing, insurance companies could w/hold if they are suspicious of beneficiary. The husband, in he IS innocent would contest, but idk in 2000 what that would look like. Court or insurance investigation? But it’s 3/2023 now and you may know by now. Family insurance company in my past, and I’ve been asked Kinda similar question
I live in Jax largest city in the US land wise. Well maybe number two. Anchorage may have us by a little. A whole lot of nothing to do here.
We can see by your posts that you've got nothing to do, baby Owl. Maybe take up traveling?
@@DIVISIONINCISION what is your deal coward??
I love you guys.
Rings payment?
They both look so hideous in that drawing I can’t help but laugh. I LOVE your podcast!!
Maybe the supervisor thought she was on her way just running late when she called her husband and he said no
you guys go over the same points a bit too much. It makes listening difficult and somewhat frustrating.
I don’t really know if my husband would know my purse or not
I'm pretty sure that not one guy in my life ever noticed what purse I was carrying.
I'm not at all familiar with this case, and haven't listened ahead, but.....my intial thoughts are first Mary was the intended victim and the phone call and second Mary were to distract and confuse the case.
I definitely do not think it was a hitman regardless. If a person were to go to the risk and expense of hiring someone to commit a murder, you can be sure they would supple the killer with home address, work address, and likely even an itinerary.
Finally, somebody was hit the nail in the right spot.
Yikes such levity while speaking about a murder, kinda cringe worthy.
