I was five when the first Care Bear movie came out, and my mom took me to the theater to see it. I loved it so much that we ended up seeing all of them, and to this day, I still love the Care Bears. When I'm having a hard time mentally at 44 years old, I will watch these old Care Bear movies, lol. They hold so many good memories of my mom and I that they just make me happy.
Great video but when are we as a society going to acknowledge the hidden gem of Care Bears: Journey to Joke-A-Lot?? “Here I’m a King” had young me in a chokehold
@@tallswordlady6642 There's a sequel to that one called Care Bears: Big Wish Movie from 2005. As you can guess from the title, the central character is Wish Bear.
God, I remember feeling so upset about the Satan kid's heel-face turn. It was a trip for kid me to watch the second Care Bears movie. I'm gonna have to unpack that one day. Thank you!
Im going fo break it down for you. The 1st movie (origin of the cousins) takes place after the series with professor cold heart (based on the books) which lead to the care bears show. The 2nd movie is a franchise reboot (hence a new generation) which introduced 2 new characters noble heart horse and true heart bear. This movie was made for the new series The Care Bears Family. The 3rd movie we don't talk about or care about cuz it followed up by a new version of care bears family series where you only saw like 5 characters most of the time and they wore clothes and the episodes were dumb. The Alice in Wonderland intro song by Natalie Cole is the only reason to watch the first few minutes of that movie. Hope this helped and made sense 😅
I watched the first two Care Bears movies all the time as a kid and didn't think anything of the inconsistencies back then, but I think things would make more sense canonically if Care Bears Movie 1 and 2 were switched in order.
11:30 I’ve only watched the second movie and I loved it so much, but now looking at it, it was so weird and how Darkheart just wanted to end the Care Bears without even giving a reason. Also the fact that he was just a kid at the end. I thought he was an adult, but turned himself into a kid. But I was so mad at the ending. But 6 year old me was so in love with him. I think he was my first childhood crush lol.
This was highly entertaining. I was about 8 when the first film came out and saw it in the theater. I still love all three movies, purely for nostalgia reasons, but the one thing that still holds up is most of the songs. Also that Nicholas song that you both mentioned, was written by the funk group Tower of Power lol. Also Care Bear-back is going in my lexicon :D Oh and about the Christian allegory, it's funny you mentioned that, because I recall vividly that Christian groups hated these films. The Care Bears sort of replaced the idea of "Jesus", that's the main reason they were hated by religious groups.
IKR? The TV Show was so safe and cozy and cuddly. This was intimidating. I remember my mom renting it for my sister and I and us saying. "This is a different kind of care bear movie then we usually get" we usually got the video compilations of the TV Show. We weren't wrong. At least it had all of our favorites from the TV series, Tender Heart, Cheer Bear (Albeit with a different design), Hugs and Tugs, Grumpy Bear and Grams Bear and was I excited to see Cozy Heart and Love A Lot Bear two of my favorites from the book series and greeting cards although I was a bit disappointed with both of there designs
lmao, i will say that i grew up watching the first of the movies so it has a special place in my heart regardless of how straight up batshit it is, but it's nice to see a video about this that's not like, idk, nostalgia critic or something lmao. i think that that movie had an odd role in my childhood, i remember i was absolutely obsessed with everything care bears (though this was also the early 2000s so.. i also got to grow up watching journey to joke-a-lot as well, which i sincerely believe you have to see yourself, there's no way of explaining) but with this movie... hmm. i think there has to be some sort of link between the care bear movies and satanic panic because that book sure was something. i think my one real thing that messed me up as a kid as far as care bears went was this one part in the middle of the movie where the book casts some sort of spell sending this weird demonic spirit after the kids. the swordfish, the living tree, and worst of all that godawful bird, those were like genuinely horrifying to watch as a kid. i think the overall story particularly with nicholas was a genuinely great idea but they kinda ruined it by chalking up friendship to something you can instantly get by buying a toy, considering that the only friends any of these kids seem to have made were the care bears, which absolutely cannot be healthy lmao
After 30 years, I found the first Care Bears movie again by giving the Google Bard AI details I still remembered (bears, a lion and a kid with a cursed book). I still love it and nowadays the movie even reminds me Animal Crossing. Recently I also found the second movie but in my opinion it was disappointing. Haven't watched the third movie yet. The only other Care Bears from my childhood is The Care Bears Family TV series, also awesome.
I grew up with all three of these movies on VHS (Adventure in Wonderland never got a DVD release in North America), as well as reruns of the '80s TV series, and I loved them, though The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland is my favourite, and the one my parents rented the most for me. I do see where you're coming from though, as there are alot of animated movies, and just movies and TV shows in general, that if you didn't grow up with them, you'll have a hard time getting into them.
Controversial opinion: The third movie's the best one. No, seriously. It's not as bizarrely dark as the first, or as mid-bogglingly WEIRD as the second... but it had the best, most consistent animation, the best dialogue, and I'd argue the best plot... at least it had the best excuse for being nonsensical and bizarre. I mean, it's WONDERLAND. I think you do the movie a disservice by dismissing it as "just Alice in Wonderland," because it really isn't. Read the original book, even watch the Disney movie... this movie is in no way a retelling of that bizarre plotless game of words and nonsense. Rather, it's a different, more cartoony take on the world and characters of Wonderland, placing them in an actual story. It's not a particularly original story, since it's a pretty standard good-vs-evil "save the princess" type story, but... I can't help but compare this to the Tim Burton Alice movies, and this movie comes off better. At least it didn't strip away all the colour and nonsense in favour of turning everything into a generic "dark" fantasy world with a paint-by-numbers "chosen one" story. It's a sweeter, gentler Wonderland,. sure, but it's never too saccharine and toothless. It's still surreal and nonsensical and plain bats. And they at least TRY to retain the love of wordplay from the original. In fact, the movie gets more enjoyable when you consider how the villain's goal is to remove all the chaos and nonsense from Wonderland and essentially turn it INTO that generic dark fantasy world. Meaning that it can be seen as the Care Bears trying to stop the terrible Tim Burton movie from being made. ^_^ I don't know about you, but that's a worhty goal! The Care Bears themselves aren't really up to much (except Grumpy, as per usual), but that works for a Wonderland story as it's never Alice who's the interesting part... the interest comes from the world and characters around her and how she interacts with them. I think they do a pretty good job here, all things considered. And that rapping Cheshire Cat is the best character in ANY Care Bears movie. ^_^
Three things: 1. Where the hell did you get "ThE wIzArD wAnTs To MaKe It A gEnErIc DaRk FaNtAsY wOrLd?" He just wanted to bring order, which would be forcing the nature of Wonderland to be suppressed. 2. The Wonderland is the most obscure one of the three films. For the longest time, the third one doesn't even have a DVD release, only VHS. I don't know if that's fixed now, but I remembering hearing about that for quite a long time.
My first time watching The Cares Bears Movie II (as a child) was the first time I was confused by the plot structure of a movie. Mainly in how it could not follow on from the first movie in any way. The Care Bears meet the Cousins as adults. So them all being babies and growing up together in the sequel, cannot happen. Also, Dark Heart from the 2nd movie - is basically Satan. He offers magical promises in the return for "favours" to be fulfilled later "no questions asked". Clearly in reference to Satan giving magical aid to mortals in exchange for souls, leading them to sin. The fact he's in all-red and his first onscreen form is a Sea Dragon is lifted straight from Revelations, which also has a red Dragon. Which is ridden by the Whore of Babylon, a woman. So clearly Dark Heart is 'The Dragon' and Christy, who aids him, is 'The Whore' in this context.
I can’t comment on the movies, I only saw a few episodes of the TV show. I thought it was okay. I remember them through Star Trek episodes, PSAs, and that one episode where a care bear dies briefly.
Here is my theory what it Care Bears time go fast and second and the first are the same think about the Care Bears and cousins move into different places and they met them a few Lightyears
I watched the first two Care Bear movies and I honestly feel like they should’ve directly aired on TV instead of releasing in theaters. 90% of the quality in these movies feel like Saturday morning children’s cartoons instead of big screen films for broader audiences. I’m actually quite surprised they were all successful at the box office especially after the first movie. You can tell they were only made to appeal to children so it really would’ve made sense if they released all 3 movies straight to TV. I guess the only reason it had to be in theaters was because they wanted enough money to save their studio.
I always thought Care Bears was a conservative Christian thing. But when you said they were still around I did some searching and it turns out they have several pride month videos. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it's just, like, sort of Christian. Or maybe it's not Christian anymore. Or maybe it still kind of is but they're just not the nutjob hateful Christians. I guess it's good that it's still around if it's inclusive but I can't help but wonder how many subtle Christian messages are in it. Maybe it's just not as Christian as I thought it was tho. I'm a secular Jew so that kind of thing never appealed to me so I really don't know. I think I'm just surprised that they actually do pride month stuff. I guess they're not afraid of right wing cancel culture and the weirdos who scream "GROOMER" when they learn trans people exist so I give them credit there
