I would add that some 5 stars are awesome even at just a 2/5 rank 1: Void Spark, Maw of the Deep (typically thought of as a pvp only gem) Starfire Stormvault These are all amazing auxed or slotted at the lowest possible level. If you are lucky enough to get one of these as a drop in the elder rift, and you're f2p or early p2w, USE IT. If they are bound, (which if you are f2p/low spend you will probably have mostly only orange crests anyway), you cannot sell them. You can only use as is or as gem power. These 4 gems are worth keeping and using as slotted gems as a low spend/F2P player in pve. Hell void spark is amazing in pvp at rank 1. If you can get 3 or even 4 of these synergising autoproccing gems, it's farming on ez mode, even without the awakenings or ranking them. When one procs, THEY ALL PROC releasing a shitstorm of damage! Lol. I use various combos of these 4 gems in my alts that got lucky, all of which are pve only. We were gifted 1 Stormvault for the 2 year anniversary, so that was nice! I do Inf 1 and Inf2 t rifts in my alts, which is harder pve content - no regrets. They do most of the work for you. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case newbies get these drops and are tempted to use them as gem food to build their 1 and 2 star gems. Maybe later on, but if you get them early on, they can be a huge help in pve. Ez street.

My understanding is that to awaken gear you need at least a rank 5 gem. If that is the situation and these two 5 star gems need to be rank 5 to awaken the gear that are in then doesn't this make it very difficult as a F2P player? The cost in gem power is large for these two gems to get to rank 5. Can you please discuss the trade off in awakened gear with the selection of the gems and how you would manage them? I assume that a 5 star gem needs to be rank 5 to (re)awaken gear, please correct me if I'm wrong.
You are right, it's hard to get rank 5 as F2P probably takes you around 1 year or more per 5*, but it's not impossible. Until then, It's okay to only trade off 2 slots of unawake for Blood Soak Jade & Roiling Consequence because they are OP gems and you put them in the less usefull slot for you - usually like 10% dmg in non-important skill. Just keep the other 6 slots with all the 10% CD% reducution + 10% DMG in your primary dmg skill. I hope it helped

Also when you visit Vic [Master Jeweller], Gem Resonance, you are asked to "Select an item with a rank 10 Legendary Gem to be Awakened" On Monday I'll have a rank 5 Mourneskull and 21 rank 1 Mourneskulls. I'm contemplating upgrading it to a rank 8, and to upgrade my Pain Clasp from rank 3 to rank 5.

As I heard some of these gems are universal and good for every Class. Which gem would be good for PVE and which for PVP if i would play Barbarian? I am not a whale, Buying usually Pattle Pass, rarely one Package.

I tried wolfheart on DH, honestly gloom is better. WH procs a lot with nothing within the aoe. For DH being so ranged and relying so heavily on the primary, I didnt get enough benefit from it. But I think it is a solid gem for practically every other class, a long ranged Wiz maybe being the only other exception. While necro is ranged, the range tends to be less, so it's ok. Awesome gem for melee.
Today mirror jewel event drops a 4/5 star wolfheart and 3/5 star bottled hope but I am f2p. I chose wolfheart since I am using dot wizard build, should I feed bottle hope to my wolfheart ?

Funny how this comes from someone who just barely hit 1k reso and doesn't have any personal experience with higher level/rank gems. Luckily others who have the experience also covered these topics before you and you can safely repeat their words. Btw FF is also very weak in pvp so you should replace that as well not just berserker.
This wasn’t echo of anyone, you don’t really need to have personal experience if you have many years of experience in ARPGs. At some point, they all work the same way, dmg multipliers and mechanics - Path of Exile taught me well 🤣 But for sure, I did this on stream (can check on clips challenge and got my community feedback, at the end, it was my decision. The reason why you can’t really be moving around a lot of gems is because as F2P you will lack the gem power to build multiple gems at once, so better focus on the few that works in both even if it’s the most optimal. Maybe in 1/2 years of the game you can have multiple 1/2* to play around
@@IndezYT I don't doubt that you have skill but from the descriptions alone you can't always decide wether it's strong or not or stronger than something else. You need first-hand experence on that which you don't have, like the bile for example where you tell that 4% is more than enough to proc it all the time but you can't know that if it's true or the difference in strenght/weaknesses of void and wulf, etc... Same goes with synergies between gems or even know that the effect really does what you think and expect or what gem effect can activate the other, you get the idea. Also by now you should very well know that in this game mechanis work in a quite flexible (not positively) way. :)

You need to say the gems, but in general, just keep 5 star for the future, you never know if you will need them

I mean that setup is pretty good for PvP. Maybe changing Mothers Lament for a Spiteful boood in PvP is the only tweak

Yes, higher damage specially in single target. Void requires multiple targets to be effective
If your a necro use Bloody Reach instead of Fang. Fang doesnt work on summons. BR double dips damage on your summons

It depends on are you trying to get your first BSJ, or are you trying to get your FF to rank 5? Which ever you're goal is.

you should note that Fervent fang does not work with summons. Rather replace it with Mourneskull.

Yeah, Gloom is amazing for primary builds, but it's niche in that sense that's why it didn't make the cut
