Really miss watching the RAC rally. It was always far better than F1. I live only a few miles from clumber park. 😢
I remember going to the Weston Park stage in this rally - I was just seven years old, but I still remember the first cars coming through in the freezing cold, and for a split second as he came towards us round a bend, I looked straight into Colin McRae's eyes. I will remember that moment for ever. (In fact, that onboard clip at 10:52 might well be the bend we were on.)

Oh, it's not my collection. It's several collections given to me by people who've seen the channel and like its ethos of saving this old footage and recordings before it decays beyond the point of no return on old VHS tapes.

What a brillant video thank you so much for posting this on You Tube It was the first year i followed the full event all around the Uk .
I enjoyed the event when we set off on the sunday ,headed to Wales Then up to Scotish boarders and down into Yorkshire .

Not too much body kits. We can see the original car body clearly..
Amazing how far the car tech has come on since these days, these old cars look so slow and skittish compared to the mdoern WRC stuff. I know which era I prefer though!
This is more related to the rules and regulations than technology available. Even before this era there was a time when cars were faster.
It's all about regulations.
@@JuhaMR By 1993 the Group A cars were faster overall on stages than GrB.... So this was as fast as they had ever been.
These cars are not slow at all, you have to consider how slippery it is, freezing and wet.
The filming from these days are loads better. It would be on board nonsense showing his feet and everybody walking about in slow motion for some arty reason before they get in their cars etc these days.
That's why I'm quite disappointed with WRC live stage coverages, too much talking, less action..
You raise a good point; with all the modern technology available, the coverage we get is quite staid, and generic. They could do so much better!!
@@ArnoldTriyudho Why they insist on interviewing every single driver at the end of the stage is beyond me. There are cars on the stage but instead of seeing them we are watching some generic "how did that go" questions to drivers who just want to catch their breath, debrief and have a sip of water.
I love the line 'why do you think Toyota have made such leaps forward?' I presume they had started their cheating at this point?
Cheated in 1995 only after rule changes
I think it was 1995 rally Portugal where it was introduced. Kankunnen in particular was complaining about a lack of straight line speed in Monte and Sweden only for it to be suddenly fixed in Portugal (I should say all Kankunnen, Grist, Auriol etc knew was it was an engine "upgrade" they didn't know it was a blatant cheat) . But it didn't become obvious they were taking the piss until Australia because they got greedy and ran the cheat turbo in effectively a 200m drag race and pulled about 2 car lengths over the Subarus. And in the rules of group A there was simply no way that was possible. Then of course in Catalunya an FIA official yoinked a turbo and they got found out.

No. I don't believe there were nightly reports in 1990. And the kind people who have given me collections for conversion either didn't record 1991 or, if they did, the quality has deteriorated too much for it to be converted.

Better days back in my time the 1990s we had it way better than the Gen Z lot us Millennial's got the best of both worlds saw the end of the 1980s as a 5 year old and lived through the 90s when you could actually go out and play Football Cricket or rounders safely without worrying about idiots in your local park with large knives , the only issue i had at my local park was the drunks lol but they were harmless , Anyway the rally and touring cars back then were the best , nowadays the cars are too reliant on tech and safety sadly

Live rally coverage is so so so much better without the driver interviews at the end of the stage. All they do is break up the on stage action with pointless questions and meaningless answers. I can hardly watch modern WRC because of them. The cars are great, the drivers are great, the stages are great but the coverage is just awful.
