Enjoyed viewing! My '88 C16 is parked in the garage for the winter. These real-time vids are great to convey the peacefulness of sailing. Love it! Keep 'em coming! 👍
@@theboatnik1328 Love mine! It's the Mark II with bowsprit but it struggles with pointing v high. I like ur idea about raking the mast fwd to balance the rig better. Will def try that. Also wondered whether a foiled rudder would make a diff. I just have the std flat blade.
I have heard that they help with weather helm but no first hand experience Most people seem to love them I have a foil rudder on a CP 23 I am currently working on but haven’t launched it yet
That spirt has that sail a lot flatter than I see on most compacs. Good choice. I tell everyone that want a sailboat to trailer to get a compac. If I ever get rid of my hunter 22 or catalina 22, i would pick up a compac immediately. I solo sail more often than not and like the ease.of handling and I bet it's a cinch to anchor.
The Com-Pac 16 is a great boat. It doesn’t point as high as some boats because of the shoal draft, but that is part of what makes it special is being able to get into shallow water. It is very easy to single hand and sails surprisingly well overall in just about any conditions. With a reefed main and small jib you can sail in a blow. It will ghost along in almost no wind just by sitting on the lee rail to heel it over a bit Thanks for watching
@@theboatnik1328 Sure hope to see you there! just working on trailer adjustment also just made new mast boom support system quite happy with it. See Sailor Pauli utube for more Jordan content.
those Compac 16 were always nice pocket sailboats, when i bought my 2nd sailboat it was a toss up between the Compac 16 and a Renken 18 (yeah they made a sailboat) both shoal keel i think the color sails on the Renken made me choose the it but i wish i had chosen the Compac.
Should there be a kicking strap of some description on the boom? Although there doesn't seem to be enough room even if there was? Just curious. Quite jealous of your weather resistant cabin, I sail a GP14 with boom tent :) Only 2 foot shorter but your Com-Pac looks like a yacht by comparison! :)
Are you asking about a boom vang? If so yes I do have one for the com-pac16 It fits fine just above the cabin hatch I used to sail a hobie holder 14 The 16’ com-pac seems like a proper little yacht compared to it You sit in it rather than on it Thanks for watching
I built the bow sprit from a salvaged one off of a com-pac 23 that was hurricane damaged I cut and extended my existing bow rail 2 separate videos show what I did
Nice work! How well did the bowsprit mod work in regards to weather helm? I have a Victoria 18 that I restored, and am looking into adding a bowsprit to move the center of effort forward. She has excesive weather helm and requires too much rudder to keep her at the ideal heal angle. I would like to contact you to discuss this. Do you have a Facebook page or email address?
Adding the bowsprit in conjunction with raking the mast forward slightly really helped with weather helm With a 110% jib my boat has just a tiny bit of weather helm (which is good to have) Almost balanced helm With a 135% jib it should be even better I can heave to and not even lash the tiller I have never sailed a victoria but would guess it will help It was a definite improvement on the com- pac 16
4 hp or less I prefer 2 cycle because they are lighter although I am currently using a 4 hp 4 cycle I like 2.5 or 3 hp 2 cycle unless I am in very strong tidal current I use a long shaft but it somewhat depends on your motor bracket setup
I’m looking for a trailer sailer and keep coming back to the compac 16. Beautiful boat. I’ve read a few places that they don’t go to windward very well because of keel design and lack of centerboard. Is this true? What would you estimate the pointing ability to be? Thanks
It is true that a Com-Pac 16 will not point as high as a fin keel boat. This is a trade off for shoal draft and trailer ability. That said, they are not that bad either If you have the rig fairly balanced so you aren’t dragging the rudder with weather helm it will point fairly well 45 degrees is about max 50 degrees if you are a lazy sailor Like any boat you have to learn to get the best performance They are great boats but if you are a die hard racer then something else might suit you better But they are a lot of fun and fairly easy to launch Simple Great in shallow water and gunk-holing Not bad in light air Not bad in heavy air with appropriate sails They do not tack as quickly or point as high as a fin keel but a good compromise for a lot of people
Hey boatnik, i was wondering if the motor shaft length is long enough or does it cavitate a lot? i have the same rig but haven't been out yet, just wondering what to expect.
When I am sitting toward the back of the cockpit it seems to do ok but I am going to lower the motor mount into the next hole to help with cavitation A longer shaft would be better in big waves for sure I am just using the motor I already had and it is fine at the lake but like I said, I am going to try to lower it some
They can be moved inside for close hauled but need to be outside for all other points of sail so normally just keep them outside all the time Or use barber haul to pinch closer to wind

Love the sandwich! Beautiful boat!
Thanks!
Nice boat! Not a lot of sailboats in this neck of the woods, just stink pots. Sailing isn't dead!
Thanks!
Been sailing since I was 12 or so
Thanks for including us in your sail. Hope to be invited again.
Thanks for watching!
Sweet little ship! Smooth run! Life's good! Aloha 🤙
Thanks for watching!
Makes me wish I still had one. Great video.
If we didn’t live so far apart we could go sailing together some time

Ended up downsizing to a sanibel 18. Love it.
Hi this is Charlie we talked at the ramp that day about our compacs!
Well hello again Charlie!
That was a great afternoon out on the lake.
Hope to see you out there with your Com-Pac 16 soon as well

I have an 1983 Mk1. Have thought about adding the sprit. Did you buy or build it? Did you have to replace the bow rail as well?
