The things he criticized the Falcons for are the same as how 90% of modern amps are made today. As far as the price being high, what Gibson products are not priced high? If Gibson had made them wired point to point instead of PCB, you can bet they would have been charging five or six thousand dollars for them.
There’s nothing wrong with amps not being hardwired or having a pcb. It’s whether it’s done correctly or not that matters. Mesa is notorious for making amps that sound great but are a pain in the ass because nothing is ever in its normal spot or done the normal way. That’s all this is. A tech is mad because the newest latest amp is going to be a pain in the ass to work on… that’s it…
I like the Falcon. My first gigging amp was a Peavey Classic 50 head a long time ago late 80’s to early 90’s. All the tubes power and preamp laid horizontally like the Falcon. Matter of fact they were even closer together. A little metal door held them in place that had a piece of foam the tips of the tube would fit into. Never had a problem with that amp or heat. I replaced power tubes once and preamp occasionally. Never had a problem. This seems to have more air circulation and venting than that peavey too. I am not sure where all the hate for the design comes from that some people have. Then played a Mesa Single solo rec for years after that. No issues. Mesa can build an amp even if circuit board with sideways tubes that are board mounted. The pots are real and not on the board. That’s cool.
@@RobbieJeadgbe mesa is known for good build quality, but it’s a case of when/if it goes down… it REALLY goes down and whoever is fixing is going to have a fit. Your correct that Peavey Classic amps have a similar layout and layout issues, but when you buy the peavey you are paying a third of the price. If you go find a used American made peavey classic now, you could find the combo version for around 500 and if it does break… it’ll cost you less to just replace the damn thing lol. The Gibson falcon on the other hand is 1800 bucks. Look people are right you’re not getting anything hardwired for 1800 bucks, but you can get a properly built pcb amp made by supro or fender that will fill this same niche for a lot less. The falcon is just expensive for what you get imho.
We were, I were, interested, definitely! and I still want one! I don't listen to guys who seem to say things to get reactions or to get likes on YT. He does have a very strong bias against Mesa Boogie built products & I don’t believe he would’ve liked the Falcon regardless of what the gut shot showed. There may be better ways to build amps, but my Lonestar & Lonestar Special have stood the test of time & they sound awesome. My amp tech is awesome & says they aren’t nearly as hard to service as some people claim. He also doesn’t see a disproportionate number of them being brought in for serious issues. I also think some folks are really out of touch with where pricing is at for amps now, due to inflation. The Falcon is not “expensive” for a US made amp that sounds & looks great. I appreciate the comparison on these amps. The Falcon seems ideal for a living room amp at my house.
Thanks, Johnathan, for the comparison. Just like you, I have the Supro Amulet 15 with 10" speaker. Both are very nice, in my opinion. What drew me to the Amulet was my wanting an amp for home. Clean amp that does pedals well. Just love it. The Gibson sounds great also. You can't go wrong either way. Every amp has its own thing. 😊
Thank u Jonathon , I’m old , 67 to be exact . I come from a time when a hand wired amp was just an amp , they were all that way , not called boutique . I personally hate these terms, catch phrases to make them sound better than anything else .. it’s amp that’s all . If an amp is built well then it’s a good amp PC boards or not . I’ve had hand wired amps blow caps , tubes go bad short out and cause all kinds of headaches . So they can all screw up . Do old amps sound better ? Well they can , but not always , do hand wired amp sound better ? Sometimes . I own hand wired tube amps , pc board tube amps and amps that have both pc board and hand wiring in same amp . You either like the way a particular amp sounds or not . I think these new Gibson amps are great , I have owned old Gibson amps , a GA 17 RTV was my favorite , they have a sound of their own , which I like . Not better just different .

I almost got an Amulet this year largely because it would fit in a certain spot in the van. The Falcon sounded far better to me in this demo. Cheers Jonathan!
The Falcon is for sure more exciting with no pedals and it’s louder so it sounds better in the video. That said, the amulet has been great and I wouldn’t get rid of it. It’s fun to play with no pedals too and it’s the perfect size.
Some good ol' folk just seem to have a pickle shoved way up there... wayyyyyy up there. The Gibson sounds really good. I'm considering the Falcon 20, after hearing that sweet tone irl.
I saw the guitologist's video. I tend to agree with him that I want an amp I am spending a lot of money on to be easily repairable, but I don't think that means everything but P2P is junk. The Gibson seems like a good sounding amp, and that's the most important thing. I thought the Gibson sounded better personally, but I am a Marshall guy at heart.
They both have their own thing. Dig em. Definitely not the same ball park, but dude we have to get a 5W Gremlin (Tone King) in your hands. Swampy-ish old school tone across two channels. No trem or reverb but you won’t miss it.
Yeah that guy was nice enough to tell me I was stupid for buying it as I now have it regardless what Mr. professional said🙄😂 I also have a Supro Amulet but the 12inch..but thanks for telling Mr. Professional 😂 thanks for showing off what I already know but honestly both are well worth the money and I love my Supro and Marshall Plexi head but and my reissue Fender 65 deluxe and with that being said.. running my fader tele custom shop and strats and gals Paul you definitely won’t be disappointed getting the falcon🤘🏻 Thanks for another video of it Johnathon .. I do like the reverb more on the Supro but honestly they both kick ass! Well worth the money and like all my gear..it won’t be sold. You guys rock🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻
Both amps sound good, but I prefer the Gibson slightly. I'm not fussy about gear though, I believe usable tone can come from almost anything being produced, so for me usually cheaper is better. That's why my tube practice amp is is a Monoprice Tube15. Awesome bang for the buck there.
I read the comments and watched that same video as well. I give the comments and that video a solid yawn. The amp sounds killer and is solidly built. People love to hate on Gibson, but the hate is less and less justified by the year. I manage a Gibson dealership and this new Gibson is a great company and has been a pleasure to deal with. I hope Casino is able to land the line soon. 🤞
I wouldn’t know what I was looking at if I opened an amp anyway. I can change tubes and that’s about it. If it sounds good, with good warranty at a price I can afford I am happy. The falcon sounds good, but out of my price range.
They both sound good but that falcon has a little something extra to my ear. Im pretty surprised at the hate and gear snobbery Gibson is getting in these. Years ago we were able to get an American made up under the thousand dollar range and overseas a lot less. The same can be said about guitars made in the USA or overseas. Fast forward to today of course it's more money than in the past. It seems that Gibson whether it's a guitar or amp the starting point is now $1500. Gibson is not the only company that is doing this. For $1500 an American-made amp will not be less than $1500 from really any manufacturer and American made. To keep the cost where it is they have to cut corners here and there. You don't have to buy it or just buy it because you like it. You will spend a lot more on hand-wired anything. If you have the time you can search for something used or classic. That takes time also and to play in the bedroom, It's shiny, it's new, sounds good, and is available. Most guitar players do not take the backs off of amps to look at what's inside. Is $1500 a lot of money? it's not cheap and I think it's a decent price for USA-made.
I've become a Supro fanboy over the last couple years or so, but that Gibson puts the Amulet to shame! I'd love to hear you play these two amps with a P90 equipped guitar!
It’s a long way from Jonathan strumming to my lovely ears (hat tip Dagan), but this listener heard more character in the Falcon. More honk. Amulet sounded more hi-fi. Ymmv. As for $1799, I’m open to suggestions of better choices for made in USA amps at that price point.
The Falcon sounded boxy to me, kind of one-dimensional. The Amulet sounded more complex or more tonaly rounded. I own neither, but have played both in a local music store and prefer the Amulet. I also prefer the Amulet over the Princeton Reverb. When I demo an amp, first and foremost, it has to have a good clean sound with character. Not too pristine. Dirt is easy to get.
I love Mesa Boogie amps and what I’ve seen most amp techs will tell you they are horrible design and not made very well. I buy amps for their sound not the design. Just my 2 cents.
Used hand built for the same money. I have had a few circuit board amps that had problems. Like cold solder joints, plastic input jacks with proprietary mini circuit boards that can't easily be converted to a switchcraft jack? For me I'm done with them.(but I do love my Peavey Classic 50 410). I have 2 Jet city 20 watters, one sounds incredible, the other sounds anemic? Buying new you get a warranty, and all the fun that comes along with making a claim, and good luck on that(ask me how I know). It's a crap shoot if you run an amp hard. I have been on a tour of a modern manufacturing plant that made circuit boards and satellite cell phones, and it's a conveyor line that just keeps on rolling. I talking about the solder joints on the bottom of the board. I've had to have tube sockets replaced due to absolutely poor quality, I even had a Carvin Belair amp new out of the box that would not power on due to faulty tubes. Remember the word "proprietary" cause it's gonna get you. Least I ramble.
I should’ve made that clearer. When it’s a duo gig where someone is singing and playing acoustic and I’m playing electric lead I use the Supro. Not playing acoustic through it. I’ll also do solo gigs and play electric instead of acoustic and the Supro is great for that.
@guitarjonathan I have thought of asking you to select a decent cheap Tele for me (I would probably only enjoy at home).but I am still searching for a resonator I could do things with, and my wife is not going for it. I do have many guitars and she says "sell a couple "
If you can't open these amps up and/or don't have the expertise to know whether their circuitry is well designed and built then any review is basically useless. At these prices people should know if what they are buying is a reliable and repairable (all amps will need repair during their life of usage) product that won't need replacing in 5 years. Amp demos/reviews should only be taken seriously as a way to know if you are investing or throwing away your money when done by real experienced amp techs.
Another shamless cash grab from Mesa. Hand wired amps don’t use quick connections. Brad’s Guitar Garage actually opened it up and it’s not what they claim. Suhr, Dr. Z, or an old well-serviced Traynor are much better options.
I like the Falcon no matter what Guitologist says about it.

I was wondering this same thing.
The speaker makes the biggest difference in and amp. The Supro has a touch more midrange or a fuller tone
Thanks. The Gibson sounded more alive!
Years ago we were able to get an American made up under the thousand dollar range and overseas
a lot less. The same can be said about guitars made in the USA or overseas. Fast forward to today of course
it's more money than in the past. It seems that Gibson whether it's a guitar or amp the starting point
is now $1500. Is $1500 a lot of money? it's not cheap and I think
it's a decent price for USA-made.
Well said.
I like the Supro sound better especially hen cranked… Slide sounds great on the Gibson though. The power scaling is a great feature on the Supro
Amulet all the way 🎉🎉
I've become a Supro fanboy over the last couple years or so, but that Gibson puts the Amulet to shame! I'd love to hear you play these two amps with a P90 equipped guitar!
both plz
I did notice the Supro only uses one 6L6 and the Gibson uses 2 6V6. Might be why the Gibson is louder.
Definitely!
Jonathan, will you be buying one after having played it some?
If I had the money I would, but a new amp isn’t in my plan at the moment and I have really good amps. I’d like to have one eventually.
My bet is that a 12” version of the Supro would come much closer to the Gibson. I REALLY want the Falcon 20, but the $$ is crazy
I think I like to Gibson a little bit more, at least you straight into the amp.
Agreed!
Dirt is easy to get.
sweet dude, luv ya...
You should have completed the Gibson to the Circa 74...lol
I love Mesa Boogie amps and what I’ve seen most amp techs will tell you they are horrible design and not made very well. I buy amps for their sound not the design. Just my 2 cents.
If you go $1799, why not just go ToneKing?
Just a totally different sound I think. But I like the Tone King stuff.
Yep these amps would rock in stereo
Gibson sounds very good, but too much for a PCB , and appears that heat over time could kill this amp, my .02
The Falcon sounded better than the Amulet on all settings to my ears.
If it was just one Brad saying it, maybe I'd take a chance, but both Brad's?
I'll stick to my AC10C1, which admits it's a cheap amp.
AC10 is a cool amp. Who’s the other Brad?

So you use the Supo for acoustic?
I should’ve made that clearer. When it’s a duo gig where someone is singing and playing acoustic and I’m playing electric lead I use the Supro. Not playing acoustic through it. I’ll also do solo gigs and play electric instead of acoustic and the Supro is great for that.
@@guitarjonathan thanks, this makes sense.
@guitarjonathan I have thought of asking you to select a decent cheap Tele for me (I would probably only enjoy at home).but I am still searching for a resonator I could do things with, and my wife is not going for it. I do have many guitars and she says "sell a couple "
It's hand wired like a Big Mac is a hand made burger.
😂 I guess 5 Guys is Two Rock.

"Eat Authentic."

Nope, didn't see your Falcon 20 demo
If you can't open these amps up and/or don't have the expertise to know whether their circuitry is well designed and built then any review is basically useless. At these prices people should know if what they are buying is a reliable and repairable (all amps will need repair during their life of usage) product that won't need replacing in 5 years. Amp demos/reviews should only be taken seriously as a way to know if you are investing or throwing away your money when done by real experienced amp techs.
Epiphone all day long over Gibson
Another shamless cash grab from Mesa. Hand wired amps don’t use quick connections. Brad’s Guitar Garage actually opened it up and it’s not what they claim. Suhr, Dr. Z, or an old well-serviced Traynor are much better options.
Unfortunately both are overpriced junk
