Yes, both Sting and Ren are highly influenced by Reggae and both have a similar tone range. Ren loves Sting ❤

I imagine Sting saying "who is singing like me, but sounds better?". I prefer Ren's voice over Stings. Sting sounds decent with his band (The Police) singing back up, but Ren's voice is beautiful on its own. Thanks for the reaction.

REN posted a BTS making of this retake, it’s fascinating…from conception to recording it was completed in 10 days…it was shot one shot live in a local bar in Brighton. He added that whole rap/singing section in the middle of back on 74 that gave the song a nod to rapping and how it can be blended seamlessly into a retro sounding song. He was also playing the opening cords to message in a bottle while he was singing back on 74. Comparing his retake on these 2 songs….His version is much more intimate, a real vibe that improves on what where 2 already great originals. The raw quality of the singing without all the production on back on 74 is without a doubt something so sublime and more reminiscent of the seventies. The police performs what is a song about social isolation and loneliness much too fast for me personally. The Studio version is even more pop music sounding. For REN to take 2 songs that would never be thought of as being combined into a mash up is…🤯. He rehearsed with Sylvia and Scarlett once before the shoot and of course the day of the shoot on location at the bar…again 🤯 they sound like they have been performing together for years. The setting for the shoot was also perfection and while watching it you feel like you are there. I can’t think of anybody out there doing what REN is doing and at such a high level. Whether it is original material or his take on someone else’s music he makes it his own. The fact that he is an independent artist who produces such top tier musical art without all the so called bells and whistles….again 🤯. He is dropping another retake this coming Thursday🤗 Meanwhile he is working on his next album which should be out later this year and I cannot wait!!! Finally…here is a link to a rarely reacted to performance of REN when he was a member of The Big Push…busking in Brighton a song called Sinner Man that was performed by Nina Simone…he sheds his Telecaster on this one hope you react to it

It wasn't in 'a small studio room. It was in one of his local pubs, in Brighton. He came back for 10 days and did this while he was here. He's back in Canada again now, undergoing the final phase of his treatment. Hopefully he'll be back home in Brighton permanently, by the end of April. :)
Btw, did you notice that this was another performance from Ren, recorded live, in a single take? :)

The Police were a kind of Punk/Reggae/Jazz/Rock. A lot of people sent off messages in bottles when that song came out. One of them just washed up on a UK beach a little while ago! It was written by two eight-year old school girls who asked to be rescued from their maths teacher - forty years ago. The finder found the school and the girls and reunited with them.

See Jungle perform this live at the 2024 Brit award show. Also had some dancers with them. It was awesome. I also think Rens rendition of Stings Message in a Bottle was so much nicer, slower and easier to enjoy for my ears.

I looked at your uploads so I could what you react to. Ren's Trilogy The Tale of Jenny and Screech (the 13 minute version has all 3 in the right order) is a storytelling song that is iconic.

Thank you for a great reaction. I'm here for Ren but very much enjoyed your taking the time to review both originals. I do like Ren's arrangement, being a slowed down, vibey version. His rap in the middle are his own lyrics, of course. 😃

I don’t like the original of Back on 74 and I think Sting is seriously overrated lol. I am obsessed with RENs version of both songs and his rap in the middle. Much better speed for them plus Ren sang message in a bottle half an octave higher than Sting which is impressive. Yes to more Ren, always yes! 🖤

Keep it rockin', doin’ the same thing
And we get high on the breakdown
And we were watching from the same time
But that don't change what I think now.
And we were talking 'bout the same crime
No, we don't hide when it rains now
I learned my lesson at the same time
Ooh, ooh ooh ooh where did it
    Go, back on 74
    Call this place my home
    Never gonna cry anymore
    Where did it all go
    Ooooh ooooh ooooh ooooh ooooh

    Cos the world is flawed

And the world is more than a place in space on a spinning ball
