And no keeper yet has tried this again, Rene Higuita is a legend
Mathew Koech yes
Mathew Koech Khune from South Africa has
Mathew Koech, I've done it 3 times at school
Mathew Koech Every time I've seen him on docos he's always wearing an England tracksuit
And that’s why no one will remember their names
Fun fact: Both home and away audiences were booing at their teams cause the match was incredibly boring.
Higuita said in an interview that he did this to give them their money's worth. 25 years later and it's still relevant. Gotta admire this guy.
The reaction of the crowd tells you everything. Gasps followed by lengthy applause. Everyone there remembers this day for the rest of their lives, he definitely gave them all their money's worth.
the ultimate goal of watching sports is to be entertained.
in that sense, he's the greatest footballer who's ever lived
The ref blew is whistle before this. If the ball went in the goal, it wouldn’t of counted. The keeper heard the whistle and knew he could take the chance.
@@uisdeanwilliamson4007 what? From where you come up with this? I heard no whistle and clearly there was no action that needs to be whistle about
Probably the best comment legit
"I could get the ball savely.....nah, let's go into history!"
Matthias Pizzini it was offside anyway
Bobby Firmino what are you taking about? Do you even know what offside is?
Jajaja
@@iaincowell9747 It may seem strange, but the guy above is right... Higuita himself told in an interview that he only tried the save because he saw the linesman raising his flag for offside. Then, as he did the save, the referee didn't confirm offside. I really don't know who could be in offside position, probably the english forward in the middle of the penalty area...
@ratdancer77 The linesman flagged.
I remember watching this as a kid. the next day everyone tried it at school.
Rubel Khan hahahahha i cannot imagine it hahaha
and then they all ended up in the nurse's office/dentist.
Paola Ballesteros thank God I was not the only one thinking this 😂😂😂
Rubel Khan moreless like wresting no? Xd
thnak for let us know, hahahahahahahaa, greetings from Medellin, Colombia.
"GOODNESS ME" one of the greatest British reactions ever right up there with "I can't believe you've done this"
*punch* "I can't believe you've done this"
TheBDHShow What about "AGUERROOOOO"
+Im not at the beach this is a bathtub what about DEENNYY
What about "AAAAAAAUUUUUGHHAAUUGHAUGHHAUGHAUGH!!! UNBELIEVEABLE" - Gary Neville
Can't believe you've done *that*
He was at the Poland v Colombia game at the 2018 World Cup. Still rocking the same hairstyle. What a legend.
with valderrama!
ryancustard13 with pibe valderrama
he should have been on the goal instead of the bench :)
Shame Scotland wasn’t
@@Thevoiceofreason84Shame England have been in as many major semi-finals as Wales in the past 28 years.
The fact that the opposing team posted this on their channel just proves how legendary this moment is.
For real. Just so iconic.
Even though this was only a friendly, that scorpion kick has to go down as one of the greatest moments in football history top 100
Well definitely one of the best moments featuring England.
Has to for sure. 2024 and still unbelievable to watch.
Look at his face in the slow-mo as hes making the legendary save, hes smiling his face off haha. He was loving it as he did it, what a legend.
Hes loving that it’s offiside
@@robertbiaek6104 rofl
He lived it cuz he had the idea for years and he was so happy he pulled it off.
@@rohancossement5180 He pulled it off many times before. He even did it in a Colombian TV ad, about 4 years before this.
@@scottishwildcatera creo de un comercial de jugo que hizo eso😅
His confidence is bigger than my whole life
if he was failed, the entire country will be blaming him
@@farizmeinardi3906 No, cause it was offside

I would happily take this video in exchange for your whole life
Look at number eleven at 0:16 by turning his head he missed the best save in the history of football right in front of him
Kid Twist lol
🤣🤣🤣
True haha
Dennis Wise
The idiot defender in front him also miss the most beautiful thing in his football career.
Now if only FIFA can give him his recognition. Besides the theatrics he was actually very talented.
Hear hear.
Higuita is an absolute legend. He just looks like he’s having an absolute blast every second he plays
He wasn't called "El Loco" for nothing.
I have to say both, Higuita was a crazy keeper after all, rushed out of the D, did stuff like scorpions. If you ask me, that dude would have gone far if he didn't waste his life.
I mean he got arrested for running a kidnapping ring
He ran powder for pablo Escobar
legend comment
@@jordantodd1542 he was not arrested for “running a kidnapping ring”. Pablo Escobar had kidnapped Carlos Molina’s daughter and Rene acted as the go between and delivered the ransom money. He was jailed because he was then paid for his services and assistance, which he initially refused but ultimately took. It was illegal to take such money since it was considered “assisting with a kidnapping”.
Where did you get “running a kidnapping ring” from? 🤨
I can’t stop replaying this. The greatest save of all time!
Greatest save of all time? You must be kidding. This was just as useful as Anthony's spin.
He just could have secured that ball with his hands. Or even with just one hand.
Style over substance. It was a cool save and he will be remembered for it but don't call it the greatest save ever. That's pushing it.
Offside sadly. So no save
@@Centa92 Oh stop it. Sports is competition AND entertainment. He made a save, and a spectacular one at that.
Totally unnecessary. Totally changed his life. Bizarrely amazing!
I was there! I'll never forget that!
The smile really puts the cherry on top.
That's why el loco was one of the best goalkeepers my country colombia produced; not because of his amazing skills but for his crazy and unexpected stuff he pull out to stop a goal.
Us brits still talk about this. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Watched that live at tv as a young teenager. Higuita was at that point notorious for his tricks and effect plays, but that was so unpredictable and fun. Higuita is always remembered and well-liked here in Brazil
He Probably inspired Ederson 😂
the only one CRAZY and SKILLED enough to pull his signature move "the scorpion" in FREAKING WEMBLEY!!!
It wastn't an official match, it was a friendly match
@@LESTATHSAMAEL
Its an official match then,it doesnt care if it was a friendly one.
@@xebas7511 No, you're wrong, i'm colombian and i know it, it wasn't an official match, not even a friendly cup, it just was an friendly match between England and Colombia, by the way, the referee had whistled the offside before the Higuita's Scoropion and then he totaly forgot the offside.
@@xebas7511 www.footballdatabase.eu/es/match/resumen/1043823-angleterre-colombie
@ratdancer77 yes, it is, no doubt about it!!!
Best representation of South American football right there. Passion for the game and the tricks/dribbling you can perform, making the impossible rather possible.
Higuita - GOAT!!
I remember as a kid this made shock waves through the world what a legend one and only
Dude wrote history that day. Best save ever.
That's some real skill. The timing has to be perfect.
René Higuita, he was an artist who used his feet to show the poetry of football.
in slow motion you can see rene higuita laughing when he does the scorpion kick.
What a savage
He’s proud of his save
@@melvynfoo2304 Best save in the world.
it's offside
This guy was amazing to watch, you just never knew what he was gonna do next, so unpredictable!! I remember in the World Cup 1990 when he suddenly thought he was an outfield player and got dispossessed by the Cameroon guy!!! He made some howlers that's for sure, but he also done some incredible things!!!! Higuita is a goalkeeping legend.
This guy was so crazy that once he scored a free kick goal in Copa Libertadores against River Plate, I recommend it to you, the narration is amazing
@@danieloliver828 Cool sounds fun, I'm gonna check it out right now. 😃
often imitated, but never duplicated! Higuita was one of a kind
The big smile on his face when he gets off the ground says it all 😂 what a baller!
When I saw that I cry
That moment represents my whole childhood!
Appreciated that!
The look of joy on his face when he pulls it off.
The only time you will ever hear a goalkeeping save from the opposition met with such loud cheering and applause by the England fans!!
One second while I lift my jaw from the floor.
@miguelitoven 😂🤣
I was 11 at the time and I clearly remember my dad, who's Colombian, being OBSESSED with this when it happened. He used to call it 'the mule' for some reason, which made it hard for me to look it up when I was randomly reminded of it from a trick-shot video, but I have incredible nostalgia seeing it again all these years later.
It was called "The Mule" because it referred to a mule kicking with its hind legs. But the way the body is in the air and the feet are up, which reminded a scorpion when it attacks with its sting, it was called "The Scorpion Kick"
What country is your mom

"I am the scorpion king now"
There were two things at that moment : Either go into the history or be history. That audacity where you believe in yourself is what everyone needs.
Amazing !!! René Higuita is unrepeatable
That glorious hair...
One of the most technical, daring, elegant and down right beautiful moments in football history. Oh and I forgot Pointless.
It's all about show
A special moment in football - it will survive forever. Just for fun, but not pointless at all:) Else I agree with you
Pointless? He prevented a goal. It would have been pointless if René Higuita made that jump and the ball had gone into the goal.
You want to live forver mate? Or go with a style?
bloody fantastic!, i watched the game, live.
Absolute class! I watched this as a young lad and thought he was a super hero 🦸♂️
One of those iconic sporting moments you see once in a lifetime
"Legend alert"
It's a fine line between genius and madness
Best piece of football I'm ever seen. Incredible.
It's so fantasticly well executed, with the perfect ball hit, and the flow in the landing, where he keeps the momentum to get up quickly.
Legendary lol.. every highlight I see of him he’s always having fun.
Cannot copy, nobody can do that again, never
yang liu but it has lol
nevers a very long time
Navas has in training it was from a penalties as well
He managed to make two brits laugh. He really is a legend
Grande René! Y no solamente fué ésta jugada, sino cientas las que lo colocaron en la cúspide del balonpié mundial. Nunca se ha visto ni se volverá a ver un ARQUERAZO como él.
as a kid when i saw this i was soooooo in disbelieve, it was amazing
Surely this is the most unexpected moment in football ever ?😆🤣🤣
Absolute class 👊 A piece of history 😃😃😃
I love how everyone is in absolute shock. The English strikers don't even go for the ball after the flick 😂😂
Legendary Loco Higuita 🙌
The ref had already blown for an offside I believe, I feel it was set up with redknapp as it looked a deliberate chip ..just right for him, but to carry it out takes skill
Offside.
And you can see his big grin after that safe. He's enjoying the moment like no one ever did.
super keeper , el loco the mad man. he is a sweeper keeper , and remains one of the strangest keepers ever
The way he smiles as he’s getting up, he knows he’s just become a football kegend

René Higuita-The best!!!!
The greatest piece of goalkeeping ever, just eternal!
Rene je jedan fin čovjek ljudskog karaktera i svaka mu čast!
Ima i malo životinjskog karaktera.
The look of joy on his face after he pulls off the scorpion kick is priceless . As is the shot of the photographers in the background who were caught unawares.
I've seen some great saves over the years but that is up there as one of the best I've ever seen
Its so bizarre. Like what was the point? He must of been on something.
I remember it. Blew my mind. Special moment.
Imagine the ball had crossed the goalline... Never the less, legendary move sir!
That confidence
Big respect 🫡. This old days will never return again
lucky enough to see this live on tv
Forever and timeless !
Legendary!
Absolute legend! You will never see a goalkeeper try that again 😊
The commentary perfectly encapsulates the outrageous piece of skill from the incomparable Higuita.
Higuita mandou benzão na defesa . Corajoso ! ✌🏼🏆
One of the craziest dude that ever kicked the round leather 😂😂😂
It’s remarkable because if he missed that he’ll be damned.. but he knows what he’s doing and truly.. he changed the rules of football through his craft.
Big Risk equal Big Rewards
Why were the rules changed because of him?
@@AJWRAJWRthey made the “Higuita Rule” because of him. It is a decision to ban goalies from picking up a back pass with their hands.
Higuita u are hereby an absolute legend, El Loco!
No one would remember this match if it wasn't for this. Amazing
From the master of the unpredictable.
That's how you make yourself remembered. Just do the same thing, but in a unique way.
