Igor Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring has survived one of the most tumultuous beginnings in music to claim a preeminent place in the symphonic literature today. Classical music changed forever on May 29, 1913, when the Rite of Spring premiered at the Champs-Elysées theatre in Paris.
Its frenetic rhythms, unexpected dissonance and swinging dynamics caused the auditorium to erupt in a cacophony of booing and fighting. Vaslav Nijinksy’s controversial accompanying ballet followed the celebration of spring in pagan Russia, which culminated in a young girl dancing herself to death. The riot at the Rite would become infamous and Stravinsky’s work would welcome a new age in 20th century composition.

I feel like rioting and fighting. Not so much for being confused in this maze of awkward music, but for the fun of it. If baskets of rotten vegetables were available at the door I'm sure it would be a sell-out. Controversial attracts controversial ideas; accept it. Embrace change!
