Ember Rodriguez well in my family they always tell me to lose weight or im a little over weight mostly from my dads side so i lie to them and say i dont know my weight im from honduras..
pearlyn lee don't just all of a sudden eat tons of food, cause that can do more harm than good. Slowly start taking in more calories. Try to keep everything you eat healthy, though.
The beauty complex in both mainland China and Taiwan is ridiculous. I lived in Taiwan for about a month, and I got really sick while I was there. I'm 5'8 and I went from 130 lbs to 115 lbs in a week. I had to go to the hospital, and I almost had to go home. It was a slow recovery, and I look extremely sick, pale, and like a skeleton in my photos up until I went home. You know what everyone said? "You look perfect! You should model!" I was barely able to walk. It literally took me needing to go to the hospital to achieve what they saw as beautiful. Breaks my heart.
SwirlySabsana thats insane, am 14 and weigh 102 almost 103 pounds and i feel like am average :/ but it seems like am not average fter all. Hope you get better ^^
I'm Chinese, 14, and ever since I started gaining weight bc of my increased appetite due to puberty, I've been told to lose weight and that I'm fat everyday by all my relatives. It's reallllllllly stressful
It isn't weird if you're short and that's just their body type I was 100 lbs and 5'4 and I'm 20 I didn't starve myself or diet in fact I eat a lot my whole family is skinny I recently gained 10 lbs and that was only by actively trying to gain weight.
@Emma That's true but the basis of their judgement comes from men. Not all men, but the majority. Like the women said, most chinese men desire tall, thin women with big boobs and nice skin, so consequently this has become what chinese women perceive as the basis of their beauty standards. If you don't fit the criteria, they become judgemental. I think you're right in saying that women need to stop tearing each other apart over this stuff but I think the root of the problem is still the fact that Chinese men desire these types of women. If they didn't, women will stop thinking anyone that does not fit the criteria is undesirable or too fat and they may start loving themselves the way they are.
Right, that's why so many western men have yellow fever. IMO western man largely like thin women as well. It's just a different definition of thin maybe. Doesn't really matter anyway. This video puts it in a way as if western woman are not sticky thin because western men are more accepting. That's simply bullshit; western women are just emancipated enough to not care. The answer is not to change how man think about the woman, but change what role woman give themselves in the society. After all, I bet that Chinese woman would like to have a super thin, kpop star with a sixpack as a bf too. I don't see many Chinese men starving themselves to dead, though. And that even though the society has far less men and thus a greater competition for women.
The different standards on BMI were released based on a WHO research. As for the world standard, a person with BMI from 18.5 to 24.9 is considered normal. However, if a Japanese has a 24.9 BMI, he/she already has 3 times higher risk to have high blood pressure. For Chinese in Hong Kong, those with BMI of 23.7 has the lowest death rate. When BMI goes up, the death rate goes up. For mainland Chinese, the index is even lower. When a mainland Chinese's BMI is above 22.6, they will have significantly higher blood pressure, blood sugar level, blood lipids level than those below. While for Caucasians, the critical point is 24.9. The data is all different across races or even residential location, e.g. Japanese in Japan and Japanese-American. In fact, there should not be a "world standard" for every person.
My girlfriend is from China. She spent Christmas week with my family and ended up gaining several pounds. The first thing her father said to her when she called home was 'What happened?! You look so fat.'
C Delan well, you shouldn't. Unless your daughter is extremely stupid or blind that she didn't notice herself gaining weight then you should tell her that she's fucking fat.
FourSlotToaster Happens all the time with Asians. Everyone does it, it's socially acceptable. Friends of my aunties will be like "Oh you've put on weight". I'm not even chummy with them, but yet it's an acceptable thing to say Hahaha very odd. After a while, it's just water off a duck's back. Try saying that to a non Asian girl, she'll probably have a meltdown.
sokunthea ly Asian are too slim, being fat is a good thing, until recent two decades. need to take into consideration of different social context. When I first come to the US, I was surprised certain color of skin and overweight have the super negative connotation they do not in asia
Ok he was talking in the park and everyone was kind of staring at him, but I spit out my drink at 1:17 when the baby in the stroller gave him the death stare.
I'm a Chinese Canadian girl and I am very familiar with the brutal honesty from the people of my culture when it comes to appearances and also my culture's beauty standards and yes I'm Chinese but born in Canada
Yeah it's so strange I'm Canadian but from like a European family and I get criticized all the time but not nearly as bad as this🤣🤣 but literally I found outside of my family noone notices it's so strange!
I mean people have been making fun of me for being too skinny since I was a kid , (I'm not, my ITM is 19.6, which is healthy) so it would be kinda refreshing to go to China and be called fat, lol.
I live in China. I'm 5 feet tall and weigh around 93 pounds..I have on occasion been called " a little fat.". I find it frustrating ..my dog was just called fat today , haha! He weighs 8 kg! Anyways, I think their standards are messed up sometimes.
this video is so much yes. as a chinese youth who is growing up in the western community makes me so much. my parents and grandparents are very traditional people and often i would be told that my skin color needs to be more fair, need to grow taller, need to lose more weight. i'm just irritated and also glad that i don't share these views. this is not me shaming my place of origin but rather annoyed with the view of the majority of our society.
Wish people would stop obsessing over "the model" body type. We can't all be slim models. Our genetics and natural body shape and height won't always allow for that. We just need to be accepting of that.
This is entirely based on different standards in different countries. China's standard is very, very skinny women, but in the US not every single person is around the same weight. as long as you're happy it doesn't matter.
Bmi is a bullshit, honey. When my bmi is "normal" i have terribly high cholesterol and sugar, huge waist and I don't even eat trashy food. For society my bmi shows that I'm starving kid in Etiopia but I'm prefecty healthy. Also other people are built different and while their bmi seems to be too high they may be totally fine with that number and totally broken if below it. We all have different bone muscle and fat shape, someone has longer arms, longer fingers, someone else has shorter neck, thinner bones, even organs are different weight and size, we simply can't be the same bmi. Never ever look at this please just be healthy. Healthy lifestyle without looking on weight number or bmi. Only you know when you feel best and how your various tests looks like. Saying that exact bmi is ideal is such a bullshit like someone said he likes to sleep 6h and you should too. Yes it may be good for him but you might feel your best after 9h of sleep, never listen to others. Listen to your body
Me: *Le eating Mom: "nuuu don't eat that much you're getting fat" Me: *Le not eating Mom: "Why are you so skinny? eat more! do you want to make it look like I starve you? sometimes being Asian sucks
Same! Its annoying and really doesn't help me with my issues. She likes to call me a bottomless pit but eats more than me :/ I'm 164.5cm and 49 kgs and one day she'll tell me I'm beautiful and then next I'm disgusting lmao.
Isobella I’m a naturally petite person. Like I’m 5’2” so I’m not specifically underweight. The highest weight I’ve gotten up to is 110, which I actually prefer, but I have to be eating massive amounts to achieve that, which is kindof painful unless I’m super hungry all the time.
+Dragon as a white guy I have had a few Chinese Girlfriends mostly from Shanghai and Guangzhou and they all talk alot. I think if you want to have a smart and intelligent GF then she will talk alot :-) Its a good thing.
Hmm...there were alot of foreign Chinese students at my college (North Chinese mostly). The girls aren't all that skinny or tiny either...alot of them were average height to tall, they were curvy and normal weight, their BMI looked around 21-23, and they didn't seem obsessed with being super thin. I used to ask the guys if it's true that Asian men preferred skinny women, and their response was 'Only to look at...but for a girlfriend/wife, I need some meat!!'. They do like some boobs, hips and butt on their own women too! Obviously not the excessive looking fake ones like idolized in Western pop culture, but you get the picture. I think men in general, regardless of race, are more drawn to softness and curves (even though the degree of curves/softness may differ from culture to culture). People of all races love to look at model-skinny women and admire them because they have been glamorized by the media, film industry and fashion industry for decades, giving them an automatic 'social status' over other regular weight girls, 'model-skinny' is a status symbol...but it's really not the body type that men are naturally drawn to by instinct. A long time ago, Asians used to prefer fat women, 'fatness' was once a status symbol too, admired, just like how 'model-thin' is now...back then a woman being chubby is equated to her being fertile, from a wealthy family, and of a higher social status, 'skinny' was seen as undesirable just as 'chubbiness' is now taboo. The only body type that has always been attractive and unaffected by status symbolism is that of a normal, healthy weight woman, some natural curves...basically an average woman who takes care of herself without going to extremes.
As a Chinese, a friend of mine is literally 3-4 inches taller than me (I am above average, so she is quite tall for a girl) and only slightly heavier than me(or basically the same weight as me 110lbs) and she keeps on saying that she is fat and I was like: ??????what are you talking about??? I don't even feel fat(and I mean it) and the 3 things a lot of my friends(girls) talk/complain abut is being not pale enough, thin enough, and pretty enough. Being a Chinese girl, I am almost weird for not putting so much effort on improving how I look (probably I AM OvER confident???), However I found it pretty sad that the girls are so influenced by the media and care so much about hoe they look and what the others think of them. I t is also VERY annoying to hear people NOT FAT AT ALL complaining about their weight. Ca they just stop? How can they stop?
you are not confident. i am 5'4 and 53kg, typical pearshaped, i am annoyed when people tell me that i am underweight. i am certainly not by both chinese and western standard. i only want more muscle, like an athlete. i am always on a diet to decrease carb intake and increase protein intake. because I want to live long. be confident and improve your body shape for wellbeing is not a bad thing.
zc Iel well some women (like me) are so skinny, but way too over critical of themselves. there is also a disorder where people think they are fat but they aren't, so they start starving themselves. lots of people with that disorder die. ps the no-carb diet works wonders (my mom used it)
I always had this problem in Singapore whenever I went to visit my parents. I am 5'1 and about 100 pounds (47kg), which is tiny in the western world. In the UK guys have always told me I was tiny and they liked it that way. I have a chest and butt too. However, everyone in Singapore is very skinny and stick thin, so every time I would go back home my parents would call me fat, tell me I've gotten round/chubby, etc, or just blatantly fat which was the case most the time. It was unfair because I am in no way fat at all. In the UK people always complimented me about my body, but when I got here all I got were these insults about my weight from my parents. I ended up not wanting to leave the house because it made me feel unattractive, and like an ogre, it stuck with me for the rest of my life too and completely broke my self esteem. Even when I was back in the UK and people thought I was slim, I thought I was fat and was depressed, even losing weight couldn't change that mindset for me. If I did my English counterparts would tell me I am losing my curves, and not to lose anymore weight. I felt like I didn't even want to be with guys because they might think I am fat on the downlow, so I've purposely stayed single. It's just you're average chinese woman is very very skinny compared to an average western woman, they have no right to go about calling others fat when they are very skinny themselves. It's a two way street, insult me about my weight, i'll insult you about your lack of breasts and ass.
Honestly most women aren't really that conscious about living up to the MEN's beauty expectations. The worst part of this whole "skinny culture" is that women themselves often contribute to uphold the pressure. True, I've met men who told me I'm too fat and need to lose weight, but I feel less pressured and less humiliated/embarrassed when men tell me this than when women tell me this. Mostly because I honestly don't give a single fuck about those guys, and men who would interest me are never those who make such superficial and judgmental comments about me. But anyways, Chinese women have turned this weight issue into kind of a competition; it is usually when my girl friends start to comment on my size that makes me really conscious about my body shape, even though I'm within the healthy range in both the Asian BMI chart and the western BMI chart. I really do feel comfortable with my shape UNTIL another GIRL points at me, and I'm pretty disgusted by how the victims (unconsciously) invested in their own oppressions. The whole culture is pretty much submerged in this must-be-skinny mindset. The first thing the elderly sees on you is your weight during the holidays, one of the things people talk about the most online is how to lose weight, every 2 minutes you will see a weight-loss pill advertisement on TV, I have't seen my friends in over a year and the FIRST thing they notice is my weight. When I was growing up, I had a friend who bought those weight-loss pills because she could not stand the pressure and those pills increased her heart rate and completely halt her period when she was only 15. Seriously this is so fucked up but most people aren't even aware of how fucked up it is, they just experience the pressure and want to "fit in", and those who do complain about how fucked up it is are often laughed at because people assume they are one of those women who fail to lose weight and they are only complaining because they are "jealous".
I'd rather be toned (fit and healthy is the way for me) than skeleton skinny/underweight. I'm a savory lover (i.e. meat lover) so a diet of only veggies or nothing is impossible for me...
Jacqueline Shi some people are naturally skeleton - like. they can't do anything about it. I've constantly tried to gain weight, but I can't seem to do that.
@ Silver wolf If it's genetics in play here then that's fine but I was implying individuals who deliberately starve themselves to achieve a 'thin' figure, which is alarming and unhealthy.
If You can't get weight by fat just exercise to increase size of muscles. Weight gain would be mostly that watery-jelly-thing in muscle cells but Hey! It's something. But it's important also to have a bit of fat. So called brown fat heats up body in winter, when swimming ect. It mechanism that very important to newborn as it heats up body and then become a lot less important. Also actually obese people have less bron fat or what's also is possible they have so thick isolation from regular fat that they don't need to use brown fat.
In fact, I feel much more comfortable being fat in China because in here, when someone tells me i am fat and i should lose weight or prepares low calorie food for me, i know they mean it in a good way, they are not insulting me and they accept my acknowledgement about it and keep on supporting my weight loss without fat shaming... but under almost every youtube video with fat people, i see comments from westerners that are very rude, not helpful at all.. i watched a fat girl exercising video and people still had the need to tell her she is so unhealthy and terrible looking and she has to lose weight... i mean, she is in the process of losing weight and maybe inspiring many other fat people... so it's like these people want fat people to hide home until they lose weight.. I am not saying some chinese people can't be rude about it as well, of course they can, just like westerners can be nice and supportive.. but based on my own experience, chinese/korean/japanese people will come to you and point out your weight or a pimple and they don't mean it in the wrong way while western people point these things out to make you feel insecure and better about themselves
Splash I am from China, 6'3 tall and 185 pounds, actually I don't feel that big in China. The young generation is way taller than their parents and grand parents
I'm half Japanese. I'm really thin, and short. I'm considered healthy in Japan. The only reason why I don't gain weight is because i have a health condition.
I am 63kg and 5 foot 5 inches tall.... I tried to be a skinny girl and I ended up being a binge eater, full of shame and guilt. My relationship with food has gotten a little bit healthier now that I increased the amount I eat. I feel happier, while I am getting all the pounds I shed again. I would like to be 5 to 10 pounds less but my body complexion does not allow me to be like that. Is it really important to be skinny? Is it really important to feel miserable because of an ideal body shape? I felt so miserable during this year that I do not want to lose weight ever again. I developed an unhealthy relationship with food and my self esteem just decreased. The guy I have liked for years just noticed me when I lost weight, not before that, and at the beginning I felt happy but then, I felt the only thing that mattered to him was my body, not my brain. I feel frustrated with this weight loss journey, but, at the same time I feel blessed because I have learned that exercising 5 times a week is crucial. I dont have to be skinny to be beautiful, I want to build muscle, so, I can get rid of excess fat and achieve a bikini shape without starving myself to death.
ik how u feel but everyone's different and weight depends on many different factors not on just how much food u eat, i only eat a small meal each day bc i'm very insecure but i'm not skinny or anything and can never seem to lose weight, there r also ppl with high metabolisms who can eat all day but still remain skinny. Honestly, as long as u look healthy then it's all fine, weight is just a number, it only matters if ur at a risk of developing severe problems. So don't listen to all these ideal body weights or types or whatever, just be urself bc that's all that matters :)
BMI is possibly the most ridiculous mainstream metric ever. It is the entire foundation for people on the internet calling each other fat even when other countries dont use it. It's a mess.
BMI has been proven ineffective. It doesn't take into account muscle. Just all your weight. So someone with a ton of muscle can be classified as obese.
R T --on the other hand, it's ridiculous that a "healthy weight" is a slippery slope. Sizing has changed in the US, because people have gotten fatter over the years. His wife does not look too skinny to me, so I understand she's in the middle BMI in China.
Well Im 5ft and about 106lbs I don't really have a flat stomach though... what people don't realize about being this small is that clothes don't fit right... every person is different. I think if your healthy and happy it shouldn't matter...
I'm 5'2 I think almost 5'3 12 115 lbs I am overweight, but that's ok bc I know I'm beautiful. Yes I would like to loose weight, and yes I'm trying. But I'm not gonna shame myself just bc I'm like this. I love myself.
🤔 they didn't ask any men which photo they prefered.... I feel this is more one sided. yes, they claimed men want tall and thin women but they never varified it.
Ali S I agree. I read a Chinese article earlier today where the findings were similar to western and Japanese preferences : women preferred the thinner woman and the men preferred the slightly chubby girl. The comments on the article reflected that too. I live in HK though.....never been called fat but I've been called skinny plenty of times, I am thin but not shockingly so.....I'm certainly not the first four on that chart lol. Maybe it's a mainland thing? Or an exaggeration? I like that the frame size was included when mentioning bmi, westerners often forget that people with small frames get fatter/softer at a smaller size than their larger framed counterparts, I have a small frame too so I'm well aware.
it's an exaggeration. I am from mainland, 165cm and 53kg. When I go shopping, the shop assistant would look at me and say "you? medium size? no, you are certainly small." makes me feel bad because I am even a size 4 in America and a size 8-10 in UK. No chance I can squeeze into a small in China! Lots of people said to me "you look like you have starved in UK!" yeah this couple youtubers are certainly imagining what it is like in China in their little bubble. They were asking the same girls questions over and over again after already knowing they are people who wants to slim down. They should pull a survey with 500 women in different parts of China and see what they think...
Wenkai Zhang Yeah, my fiancés family (who are Chinese) tell me to eat more because I'm too skinny. Before I came to Asia I thought I could be seen as 'fat' because of all these expats making what appears to be (in my honest opinion) a gross exaggeration about body perception and sizing in Asia. I know a girl that moved to Japan and acquired an eating disorder, before I left for HK she told me I was going to have to wear a large in Asian sizes...I wear a small here. I think this mindset could have triggered her eating disorder. I'm always skeptical of the validity of these videos because expats love to exaggerate, makes for interesting conversations I guess lol. Also, The stereotype about western women not caring as much about their appearance is exaggerated as well, while somewhat true I have a very hard time thinking of a girl I know who doesn't care about her appearance. If you shop at Walmart at midnight, yes, you see unkempt people, but the same is true for a 7/11 in HK at midnight lol (esp in residential areas)
As an Australian white male, I'd tend towards the 20% 40% and then I like the 80% more than the 60% 10% looks better than the 60% too for some reason. but 40% is ideal, 20% looks just like a fitter 40%.
I have to say that i would stich to MephistoRolling here as well. I'm not sure if this is because i'm 34 now.. but the girls that are under 20% seem like kids to me or people that dont have enoth money to buy food. I'm 1,84cm tall and about 78kg. 20-40 (even the 10) i would do 40 is what i would rate as a idol, while 20 really seems to be the sporty version 60 and 80 i would still do, because i think they have bigger boobs then the others and to be hornest... i think they enjoy food as much as i do and wouldn't complain so much. While having sex i dont have my eyes down there anyway, so based on this i have to say: 10 or lower - girl to bang (short term relationship and chances i stay with her are low) 20-40 girl that can manage herself well, but hard to keep relationship, because other guys are after her as well (her standarts/what she wants me to do will kill the relationship, because i cant only life for her) a 40 in her late 20s or early 30s is the perfect girl i would say 60-80... told you.. i'm close to 80kg and those girls if they are about 1,60cm are ok when it comes to beeing with me, based on the fact that i would feel that the others are "to thin" and landing a 20-40 and stick with her means a lot of work. I mean... do you know when you buy something and it is not heavy enough? For me that means bad quality... For girls its the same.. when the girl is to slim, then i feel that i have to watch after her a lot.... or she will get broken. 10 or lower girls cant carry shit...
10% and 20% are the best, 0% and 40% are ok, 60% is right on the edge of being obese, above that is obese (don't like), -10% is still kinda ok, lower than that is too skinny... (Czech white male here)
Yeah, I'm a girl but I don't see a difference between 20% and 40% except that 20% looks a tiny bit more toned up. It may be like this beacuse she's soaked in water.
Its china what do you think, you never know what your getting for sure. They still think TCM will cure cancer and work miracles while they copy and steal whatever they can from western medicine.
M.J. J. you can form an ulcer by anything that can destroy the lining or harm the lining of your stomach. You can do this with almost any medication that you take, such as ibuprofen, I think Claritin is well, Naproxen, Etc. there are many different ways to harm the lining of your stomach and unless you make sure that you either coat your stomach with milk or eat food you can get an ulcer from long term use of almost any medication that is hard on your stomach. it all depends on what you eat and drink and you're not meant to straight drink vinegar and it can be very very very painful on your stomach and that's why she probably had the ulcer. on top of the fact that maybe she had a headache a few times and took ibuprofen or something else to make the headache go away, that can also be a factor especially if she's not eating anything at the only taking vinegar and then takes a pain medication for whatever reason. there's so many things that can factor into that but not eating and drinking or eating something very harsh on your stomach like a pill or like vinegar can give you an ulcer or it could rip the lining of your stomach, there so many different possibilities.
every country has different standards. For example: I am 15, 5'6 and I weigh round 98.5lbs (44kg) but I am really active. So when I messure my bmi it says that I am underweight, that is the problem it doesnt include my muscles, like nearly the half of my weight is muscle. P.S I am from Germany
i'm almost 5'5 and 115 pounds..If i lost 5 more pounds I'd be under weight...but I probably still be considered fat :'3 No one listen to this as your body is beautiful. They are so many types of body's... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Same! 5' 4.5" here, 110-112! So hard to find clothes that fit... :/ I'd like to be maybe 5 lbs heavier but my brothers eat all our food way too fast for that and guilt me if I try to eat more. They like to call me fat too, despite the fact that I've told them that my BMI is borderline underweight. XD Oh well, that'll change in a year when I go to college. >:3
I'm 5.6 and 105 pounds but I'm pretty sure I'm no where near to underweight most of my friends are way skinnier then me and they tease me for being fat XD
WHATTTT?? Me and my friend are both Chinese and our parents are like, "Eat more you're too skinny" "Look at how good that person looks so cute and chubby"
In China, I am probably slighty overweight. Good thing I look like I weigh less than I do. haha... Which I don't understand actually because I am really short... Like really short... lel
I think the BMI works fine for people who don't have a considerable amount of muscle mass. I actually have the exact same measurements as you, 6'4 and 210, but I lift and my bodyfat percentage is only around 15% so I think I can safely ignore BMI.
not to be rude to men out there who are caring and nice but I'm chubby and average height is not the idle person but I don't care so one day this guy came up to me and said I should be prettier and lose some weight I was shocked like he didn't even say hi he just straight up said it. What I hate about it is that men don't have to try hard as woman do and I hate how they're judging us and I don't mean all men and woman could do the same. but a few weeks later I saw him on twitter (yes I still use that) and saw a tweet said: "stop fat shaming was all equal who ever does that I'm disgusted by them" like what?! and still to this day his calling me fat.
Wth? Why do you exaggerate so much? XD Just because you're not 45 kg doesn't mean you are on the edge of diabetes. It takes like the double weight or much more to reach that level.
To be fair, I feel like it's likely to surprise Americans more than other westerners since obesity is such a thing over there. In France I admit that there are probably far more fat people than in China, but I don't find it surprising when a road don't have a single person that is fat (I'm refering to the example in the video). It's not that "omg impossible".
I am planning to study in China and that is one of my issues on how Chinese people are in being to blunt about body image. I'm really self conscious about my body weight so I'm wondering if I can handle the criticism although I know they don't mean bad by it. Well, I guess I'll see when I get there. :-)
watserface blah you should be fine, understand that some people see large people as wealthy in countries like China. It may be unhealthy to them but to some you may be considered wealthy because you can afford all the food you want
That's just what I don't get. If they don't mean bad, then WHAT do they mean? I won't believe they would say such words like "you got chubby" to others with good intentions. They're just used to being vicious to one another and take it for granted like normal, it's scary...
I don't really agree with the statement that "Asian woman lose weight to please the man". Sure, woman want to attract man, but not every woman lose their weight to please the men around them. They do it for the purpose of health and just want to feel good by themselves. The idea that the wife is talking about is too extreme and is probability what only she is thinking. You guys need to interview more people in order to make an assumption because there are so many people who have different minds than you. No mean to make a war but that is something that you need to consider as a person that broadcast a culture to others.
From experience (aka i'm actually chinese), losing weight (in China) is not necessarily to please the man but rather to please the family and to show off to friends.
Actually in America there is a lot of pressure to be skinny, it is obviously not as skinny as people in Asia but it is definitely still there. Also, on multiple forms for school, jobs, etc. we have to put our height and weight. Another thing is that I have noticed that most commercials are about losing weight, meal plans, or eating certain things to stay skinny. So I just wanted to say, it's not just in Asia where there are body stereotypes that women are supposed to have a crazy skinny body and American women definitely are not any less peer pressured to be skinny as Asian women.
Asian parents: you need to eat more
Also Asian parents: you need to eat less
Me: Pick one!
haha, exactly !
Also Asian parents:
Keep reading or i'm getting the belt!
Ragerz Rex trueee but we use a tree branch instead of a belt lol
Tina Yang same
Like my dad he says I eat too less but too much at the same time
Its funny coming from a Mexican family whose elders always say "wow you so skinny, have your mother been starving you".
The biggest motivation for weight loss is your grandma telling you that your weight is perfect without it even coming up.
pompom's hi victor
Ember Rodriguez well in my family they always tell me to lose weight or im a little over weight mostly from my dads side so i lie to them and say i dont know my weight im from honduras..

Ember Rodriguez Same thing in Brazil, 'Wow Ryan, 'palito de dente' (toothpick)"

pearlyn lee don't just all of a sudden eat tons of food, cause that can do more harm than good. Slowly start taking in more calories. Try to keep everything you eat healthy, though.
Juicy Pear okay but I cant resist the PIZZAS!!!
"Really tall, really pale, and really thin" Why not just date slenderman or something?
lmao
that is rude especially if you're tall, skinny and pale. It is just as bad as fat shaming if you are not aware.

Websites label me having a model body. You don't want this model body. I'm 14 and 76 lbs, I have weakness and a small appetite.
SwirlySabsana thats insane, am 14 and weigh 102 almost 103 pounds and i feel like am average :/ but it seems like am not average fter all. Hope you get better ^^
SwirlySabsana that's unhealthy 😭
Maki Mii, I'm actually at Disney and four girls on the bus were healthy weight. I felt super awkward. Imma visit the doctor.
Leonardo da vinci I am 13 100lbs and 5'6
I'm Chinese, 14, and ever since I started gaining weight bc of my increased appetite due to puberty, I've been told to lose weight and that I'm fat everyday by all my relatives. It's reallllllllly stressful
Remember, don't shape your body according to other people's standards, do it to your standards and what's healthy.
I would bet my money that none of those relatives look like a model, either 😏
Go do some exercise and train your muscles.
I hope things are better now for you
Does still feel the same?
Can we talk about the guy running in 2:30 who is chasing him? Is he in danger? What happened to him? how far did he run? so many questions

im 13 and 118 lbs...
Marzipan Lester it's just about your age. At your age it's normal to gain weight, I'm overweight but it will just spread as I grow
Average weight depends on your height, and Asians are usually shorter than other ethnicities, so that's not much of a surprise.
Marzipan Lester I'm 24. 5'1" and weigh 100 lbs. It's not weird if you're short haha
It isn't weird if you're short and that's just their body type I was 100 lbs and 5'4 and I'm 20 I didn't starve myself or diet in fact I eat a lot my whole family is skinny I recently gained 10 lbs and that was only by actively trying to gain weight.
I'm 14 years old 5'4" and weigh 130 😓

I'm 5'9 and 165 pounds - so I'm actually average - but I've lost 100 pounds
5'5" 110 lbs, underweight in US, perfect to me, normal in China, lmao.
Im underweight in the whole entire world and would be the “ideal” in most asian countries especially korea and china
That is ballerina weight-
I'm 5'7" and 125 lbs...also considered underweight in the US.
I am 5'7" 110 pounds
@@Koneko33 it's actually not. You can't support your body and dance (exercise requiring great strength) with no muscle mass from starving.

"In Asia man actually prefer skinnier girls ..."- yea.. I think that's pretty much everywhere in the world
except you know Namibia and the south Western coast of Africa where women with HUGE asses are seen as the sexiest.
True
actually no. Chinese men like girls who are stick thin who look about 12 years old. Western people like a bit more meat on the bones
Don't be mean bro. She looks fine.
"Really tall, really pale, really thin"
Why do they want to date slenderman
True. They prefer ghost look.
Slenderman is a skinny legend ✨

Minsoo Chang thank you for sharing!
Depends on the non-Asian girl- some of them will just be like lmao true or accept it and cry later
sokunthea ly Asian are too slim, being fat is a good thing, until recent two decades. need to take into consideration of different social context. When I first come to the US, I was surprised certain color of skin and overweight have the super negative connotation they do not in asia

I'm a Chinese Canadian girl and I am very familiar with the brutal honesty from the people of my culture when it comes to appearances and also my culture's beauty standards and yes I'm Chinese but born in Canada

Aren't some people in China actually called Fat? 😉 Like Cho Yun Fat or something?
I live in China. I'm 5 feet tall and weigh around 93 pounds..I have on occasion been called " a little fat.". I find it frustrating ..my dog was just called fat today , haha! He weighs 8 kg! Anyways, I think their standards are messed up sometimes.
@@Dowlphin that’s a Vietnamese name. And it’s not Fat, it’s Phat. And it’s kind of racist towards Vietnamese people.
this video is so much yes. as a chinese youth who is growing up in the western community makes me so much. my parents and grandparents are very traditional people and often i would be told that my skin color needs to be more fair, need to grow taller, need to lose more weight. i'm just irritated and also glad that i don't share these views.
this is not me shaming my place of origin but rather annoyed with the view of the majority of our society.

Wish people would stop obsessing over "the model" body type. We can't all be slim models. Our genetics and natural body shape and height won't always allow for that. We just need to be accepting of that.
I'm skinny, tall and pretty pale.
Oh boy, I'm gonna find a Chinese husband.

Jane Eddy Just look up BMI calculator, put in your height and weight, bam.
This made me feel so bad about myself, 40kg?! I'm like 45 and I'm 13, and my bmi says I'm regular weight
This is entirely based on different standards in different countries. China's standard is very, very skinny women, but in the US not every single person is around the same weight. as long as you're happy it doesn't matter.
Robyn how tall are you?? I'm 13, almost 14 and I'm approx 110 pounds, not 99 lol but I'm also 5'7
Maddy im 120 and im 13
Aha, i'm 14 and i'm like around 62 kg and 5'3 :,), I look like i'm around 54 kg though

The highest weight I’ve gotten up to is 110, which I actually prefer, but I have to be eating massive amounts to achieve that, which is kindof painful unless I’m super hungry all the time.
Zoë ah ok. Sorry I'm tall so many mind automatically thinks anything under 120 is very small

Leo Loner it's true

+zc Iel it does get annoying
you are not confident. i am 5'4 and 53kg, typical pearshaped, i am annoyed when people tell me that i am underweight. i am certainly not by both chinese and western standard. i only want more muscle, like an athlete. i am always on a diet to decrease carb intake and increase protein intake. because I want to live long. be confident and improve your body shape for wellbeing is not a bad thing.
"As a Chinese."
I live in Malaysia and girls at my school who are above 50 kg complained that they are 'fat'. I'm like "STFU!!! Y'all are tiny AF" (they are petite)
zc Iel well some women (like me) are so skinny, but way too over critical of themselves. there is also a disorder where people think they are fat but they aren't, so they start starving themselves. lots of people with that disorder die. ps the no-carb diet works wonders (my mom used it)
I try to lose weight but losing weight is not my thing so I can't

5'2 and 105lb for an adult woman?! I'm 13 and those are exactly my measurements...
Rebel-chan Nightcore I'm 26 and I'm 5'4 and 108 so why are you acting like that's something so surprising.
Lauren Carr because it is.
I know people much smaller than that, it's actually not that uncommon
I'm 13, 5'7" and 140
I'm 5'1 ,11, like a 100 pounds so I'm thinking :SHES A WOMAN ??!!!!SHE LOOKS LIKE A CHILD !!!!!
It's a two way street, insult me about my weight, i'll insult you about your lack of breasts and ass.
yeah but in the uk everyone is disgustingly overweight :D
someone touches my belly and they will be slapped
Well in chine they slap you back trust me .my grandma fucked me up one time when I thought I would tell her off
Honestly most women aren't really that conscious about living up to the MEN's beauty expectations.
Silver wolf Ye I can lift 198lb and I'm 115 pounds, I'm almost bone dam genetics .... idk If I will ever bulk up
@ Silver wolf If it's genetics in play here then that's fine but I was implying individuals who deliberately starve themselves to achieve a 'thin' figure, which is alarming and unhealthy.
Wait, if I'm considered very fat in America......
Holy crap
Almost every other extended family get together 😒 "You're looking kind of round", "did u gain some weight?"
Couldn't be more true. Relatives are always polite when it comes to sth that doesn't concern them.
Yesterday was a birthday and my mom said "wow you gained weight" then asked me if I wanted a burger.
Damn ... I'm hella tall and I have a buff type body build.. ima look like a brick wall to em.
Splash I am from China, 6'3 tall and 185 pounds, actually I don't feel that big in China. The young generation is way taller than their parents and grand parents

juju panda
Here I'm slim THICC but in China I'm probably obese😂😂
C-Milk only interviewed women about what they think. He didn't show the same examples to men and ask them what they think?
And you also have no brain cells with that kind of speech.
No, she has a fat head.
Cake Kyo I'm glad you are getting more confident in yourself, love yourself, you sound like a very thoughtful lovely person and I wish you good luck
No offense but this hits me in the insecurities
ik how u feel but everyone's different and weight depends on many different factors not on just how much food u eat, i only eat a small meal each day bc i'm very insecure but i'm not skinny or anything and can never seem to lose weight, there r also ppl with high metabolisms who can eat all day but still remain skinny. Honestly, as long as u look healthy then it's all fine, weight is just a number, it only matters if ur at a risk of developing severe problems. So don't listen to all these ideal body weights or types or whatever, just be urself bc that's all that matters :)
"Oh no you got offended on the internet."
Scoobert Doobert at least I don't spend my time hating on people
Malorie Rose you fat bitch
Malorie Rose It shouldn't unless you are fay
Save 11 minutes of your life. The answer is yes. Yes, you are.
Thumbs up for the shout out to Rachel & Jun's channel. I watch them also.
Yea Jvloggers they'll do anything for money and views to show Japan is the perfect country.
You probably don't watch their vlogs. It's mostly about their life in Japan rather than Japan in general.
UranusGaseous finally a positive comment.
I only clicked on this video because I got tired of the this video thumbnail popping up in my suggestions calling me fat!
I am fat in every country lol
Andrea Azzurra same my dude
Andrea Azzurra come to Saudi Arabia and you'll be a beauty queen lol. bc in my country if you are thin and skinny you probably SICK , BELIEVE ME
BMI is possibly the most ridiculous mainstream metric ever. It is the entire foundation for people on the internet calling each other fat even when other countries dont use it. It's a mess.
R T do you have any proof of that?
They need to update t a little, but nevertheless, it is based on health, not on beauty standards.
I'm 5'2 I think almost 5'3
12
115 lbs
I am overweight, but that's ok bc I know I'm beautiful. Yes I would like to loose weight, and yes I'm trying. But I'm not gonna shame myself just bc I'm like this. I love myself.
AnnaZ your not even overweight, you weight is considered healthy lol. I'm 5'2, 14, and 113 and people tell me I'm too skinny 😂
Nalu Dragneel that's weird I'm not considered skinny.
you're good weight for your height
AnnaZ you arent overweight check your bmi I'm the same weight and height and my doctor asked me to stop losing weight.
You are not overweight 😂😂 you're normal....there's not just skinny and overweight 😐
🤔 they didn't ask any men which photo they prefered.... I feel this is more one sided. yes, they claimed men want tall and thin women but they never varified it.
this is a different video topic for the future
As an American white male. 80% is best. 100 is good. 40-60 is meh, under 40% is not attractive to me, under 10% is downright gross.
I have to say that i would stich to MephistoRolling here as well. I'm not sure if this is because i'm 34 now.. but the girls that are under 20% seem like kids to me or people that dont have enoth money to buy food. I'm 1,84cm tall and about 78kg.
20-40 (even the 10) i would do
40 is what i would rate as a idol, while 20 really seems to be the sporty version
60 and 80 i would still do, because i think they have bigger boobs then the others and to be hornest... i think they enjoy food as much as i do and wouldn't complain so much.
While having sex i dont have my eyes down there anyway, so based on this i have to say:
10 or lower - girl to bang (short term relationship and chances i stay with her are low)
20-40 girl that can manage herself well, but hard to keep relationship, because other guys are after her as well (her standarts/what she wants me to do will kill the relationship, because i cant only life for her)
a 40 in her late 20s or early 30s is the perfect girl i would say
60-80... told you.. i'm close to 80kg and those girls if they are about 1,60cm are ok when it comes to beeing with me, based on the fact that i would feel that the others are "to thin" and landing a 20-40 and stick with her means a lot of work.
I mean... do you know when you buy something and it is not heavy enough? For me that means bad quality...
For girls its the same.. when the girl is to slim, then i feel that i have to watch after her a lot.... or she will get broken.
10 or lower girls cant carry shit...
From those pictures, 40-80% is my ideal - but everything above the -10% I could accept. Below that looks quite unhealthy.
Holy shit an ulcer from drinking too much vinegar. Vivi was dedicated.
Its china what do you think, you never know what your getting for sure. They still think TCM will cure cancer and work miracles while they copy and steal whatever they can from western medicine.
bird718 People didn't have smart phones or easy access to knowledge when she was in school. She couldn't know any better .
I thought ulcers were caused by a bacteria, not by what one ate..common treatment is antibiotics..
M.J. J. you can form an ulcer by anything that can destroy the lining or harm the lining of your stomach.
Standard is fake. There's nothing called beauty standards. All these are made by some stupid people. Not god.
Exactly!!! I'm 14 5'0 and I'm 37 kg but I do swimming track and volleyball so I'm very active!
i'm almost 5'5 and 115 pounds..If i lost 5 more pounds I'd be under weight...but I probably still be considered fat :'3 No one listen to this as your body is beautiful. They are so many types of body's... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Nikki Nii I'm 14, female, 5ft 1 and around 100 lbs
I'm 17, 5'3 and I weigh 90 lbs :)))
Nikki Nii 5'5 100 lb 14 y/o
I'm 5.6 and 105 pounds but I'm pretty sure I'm no where near to underweight most of my friends are way skinnier then me and they tease me for being fat XD
thin in US, fat in china. cool
WHATTTT?? Me and my friend are both Chinese and our parents are like, "Eat more you're too skinny" "Look at how good that person looks so cute and chubby"
1:11 the guys face next to him 😂
I am fat everywhere.. so there is nothing to discuss👍🏻
Sibel Cayir Türk
You're beautiful the way you are!😘
Fluffie Bubbles nobody said she wasn't
Leah hi bob
The asian idea of weight is so unhealthy.
VikaLaVii it is
VikaLaVii you can say that again
skinny and healthy is unhealthy?
VikaLaVii Actually in some asian countries, the ideal weight is not that unhealthy.
Well the obesity in America is also unhealthy
Jesus, I would probably be harpooned 😂
You definitely would. xD
I'm 5'6.5 and weigh 115 pounds and I'm so happy! 😄😄
Lol good thing I look like I weigh less than I actually do. I swear my boobs are like, 10lbs.
Same, I have a really thin waist but my hips and bust are ten inches bigger, I thank genetics.
Same my boobs and hips are pretty big but my waistline is slim so it helps.
Y'all all blessed as hell lmao
My hips are 35 in and my waist is 27in but I have big breasts for my body size, I wear a 34c so I look lighter than I am.
if they haven't sagged and hit the floor yet, they will.......
did you see the asian man at 2:02 he was like "bitch wacha doin in the side walk talking to camera"
Gabriella Cortez XD I see whatcha mean
In China, I am probably slighty overweight. Good thing I look like I weigh less than I do. haha... Which I don't understand actually because I am really short... Like really short... lel
Minirina I'm 4'11 and I'm 14
Minirina you probably have high lean mass
Lendsi SAME!
people always think that I weigh less than I do and seem shocked when I tell them. to be fair I'm 5ft 10 I just look really skinny when I'm 11stone
@@lendsi3565 same I'm like 4'12 or 5'0?? And I'm 14
Omg love how candid they are!
Damn. I'm Asian and also 13. I'm 110 pounds and I'm considered small in my school
Jenna Tran saaame I'm 16 F, 107 lbs and 5'3
Jenna Tran lol I'm under 10 and I'm 100 something pounds
13 and 75 pounds lol
Jenna Tran. 12 and 132 pounds. called a whale in school :)
I'm also Asian, but seriously they are so judgmental about people's body image....just accept it
I'm 6' 4" tall and 210 lbs. BMI is 25.6. Anything 25+ is considered overweight. That's utterly ridiculous.
Body fat percentage is more meaningful, grab some calipers
Jeff Morse how so?
I think the BMI works fine for people who don't have a considerable amount of muscle mass. I actually have the exact same measurements as you, 6'4 and 210, but I lift and my bodyfat percentage is only around 15% so I think I can safely ignore BMI.
Now I'm curious. I'll have to go find some calipers.
I'm 6'6 and about 250 lbs. I am a little overweight. I am getting ready for the insults in china.
not to be rude to men out there who are caring and nice but I'm chubby and average height is not the idle person but I don't care so one day this guy came up to me and said I should be prettier and lose some weight I was shocked like he didn't even say hi he just straight up said it.
Bob Bobby bish stfu
So judgmental :'( just be confident in your own skin. this really broke my heart
iwaizumi hajime you wont be saying that when you find out you’re borderline diabetic
Wth? Why do you exaggerate so much? XD Just because you're not 45 kg doesn't mean you are on the edge of diabetes. It takes like the double weight or much more to reach that level.
@@chinosfeelings6587 you do realize you can be skinny with diabetes
when I went to Hong Kong , there were no fat people. not joking. everyone walks to their destination.
To be fair, I feel like it's likely to surprise Americans more than other westerners since obesity is such a thing over there. In France I admit that there are probably far more fat people than in China, but I don't find it surprising when a road don't have a single person that is fat (I'm refering to the example in the video). It's not that "omg impossible".
depends where in hk you go to
I am planning to study in China and that is one of my issues on how Chinese people are in being to blunt about body image.
No mean to make a war but that is something that you need to consider as a person that broadcast a culture to others.
they are not as educated as we are. i am sure they dont know what is generalizability, or external validity
Actually they do. They don't think the way we do. In their society you need a man or you come across as defective.
Cherry Wang losing weight does not = "Healthier"
From experience (aka i'm actually chinese), losing weight (in China) is not necessarily to please the man but rather to please the family and to show off to friends.
fuck you
The color profile is amazing... The greens, oranges, browns, grays, blues... Amazing!
So I just wanted to say, it's not just in Asia where there are body stereotypes that women are supposed to have a crazy skinny body and American women definitely are not any less peer pressured to be skinny as Asian women.
hi gurl who's reading this i love ur body u look amazing ok bye
Festive Cringe lol piss off
empresskassy ; england is my city so no, you piss off.
