- Hello viewers, it's day 4 of our California road trip and as you can probably tell we're all knackered. I've probably signed about 1,000 bottles and posters so my arm hurts. Also I've probably drunk about five bottles of gin, so my head hurts. However, in the interest of bringing The Gin of the People to The Land of the Free we must struggle on. James, you sticking around, even after you ran out of memorabilia to autograph, was awesome! I could tell that those people weren’t the least bit disappointed. Good on you! 👍
Mr. May is truly a class act.
Instead of that they got an apology, had a little chat with him and in some cases a photo. Much better IMO and something many others wouldn't do.
Very classy to go and spend time with the folks that stuck around for the signing when things ran out. So cool too that someone wanted to get Lucy's signature too.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see Lucy become the female version of James in the years to come.

I'm not from California but have spent most of my life in San Diego and L.A. and I'm burned out on it. Seeing British people enjoy the touristy areas always helps refresh my appreciation.
Definitely felt that. Born and raised in San Diego and I didn't appreciate growing up there until about a few years after I left. Now I kinda miss San Diego and am excited to visit.
It was cool to see him stop by the stairs at Big Corona, my ‘stairs day’ training spot.
It is a great view and the camera person did it justice.
He also stopped right next to the chocolate strawberry stand by the Balboa Ferry. A favorite of mine as a kid; and of my kids n grandkids. Too bad it wasn’t open as it appeared not to be a weekend.
Day 3 is when jet lag strikes; James survived a very long day and should feel better tomorrow. Plus, good seeing Lucy's continued good work with camera and video.
If James May decided to sell something as mundane as a cheese grater I'd still buy it because he's the best example of an English bloke I've ever seen.
Lucy Brown and James May and the rest of secret team, you guys have really crafted such a fantastic brand & presence. What total class acts you guys are, and such great videos.
It speaks volumes of the man that he cares about the people who showed up when the items ran out. It's him basically respecting his fan base, taking the time to give them an experience anyway. That is a beautiful thing. Good on you, James.

What an absolute legend. Who else would bother to go and talk to fans and sign anything and everything after they've run out of merch and apologise to them?
Very classic from James to hang out with people who waited in line and didnt have a chance to get a bottle or poster. Great man as usual James 👍
Hard to imagine that CA. has that many people in it. lol You were a nice guy for spending time with people after your products ran out. Makes you a hero and those people will forever feel privileged to have met you and spent some time with you. That is what makes you and your team extra special. Lucy is a gem and I am sure the rest of your crew are as well.

Yeah I'm weird I guess 'cause I'm not big on autographs or swooning over celebrities. The few times I've come across one I've liked I've just said hi and thanked them for whatever they've done that I've enjoyed.
May was always my favourite of the Top Gear trio. Ill miss his adventures across the world with the other two driving him mad 😔

The Balboa Bay Club, haha - one of my first jobs when I moved to California back in '03. Fast forward 21 years... and I make videos about cars, and just ordered some Gin from a guy who made me want to make videos about cars.

New port beach was my summer time home away from home (Anaheim). Spent many days there. Mostly boogie boarding at the Wedge and walking around Balboa. What makes it funny is my family is one of the founding families of Hunting beach…

James, I wish I had known you were coming to San Diego ahead of time. Watching you drive across the Coronado Bridge and your reaction was interesting since I do it several times a week, and it never get's old. Always a lovely view from up there. Suddenly you were at McDonald's and since there aren't any McDonalds on Coronado except on the military base, I was a bit confused? Then in the next clip you were out at the Keg & Bottle in Del Cerro so I realized you had moved on. Hope you enjoyed your quick tour of Coronado....it's an amazing place to have just across the bay from Downtown SD.
I can now say that James May has driven my commute - stunning.

Fun Fact the shot at 3:30 is the same view in the TV show GIlligans Island when the boat leaves the Harbor. It was shot from Corona Del Mar looking east across the Newport Bay Entrance.
And at 4:05 is the world famous surf spot, The Wedge.

Love watching this little video series. What makes me sad is in two years my wife and I are heading to the UK to visit her family for our wedding anniversary and tour part of the country and I won’t be able to get to see James’ pub or Jeremy’s farm. 😢😢

Dammit! I went on your website to find out where in San Diego your gin is sold. Keg and Bottle. I drove there and was told by the lady selling me my excellent parsnip gin that I missed a "guy named James May"! She had no clue! And I missed it! I did buy a bottle of parsnip gin, again, excellent. Makes a wonderful G&T. I don't have any social media, so I hope I find some way of getting to a signing if you ever return to paradise. (S 5:03 an Diego)
