I've been so stinking BLESSED to have found Anjelina Jordan about 8 years ago... experiencing music history
Angelina at 12 years old with a commanding stage presence! Her vocals are through the roof especially when you hear a live performance and this was from a cellphone as no other cameras were allowed! This was at the 200th anniversary concert of The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets Stabmusuikkorps)! The songs are from her album It’s Magic! Which, she recorded in studio with this band when she was 11! When you get a chance you should see the rehearsals they did for the album!

This 12 year old child is vocally glowing, vibrant, flowing so smoothly in this song. Like all the complex songs she does, it's far too easy for her.He looks at her like there is nothing this girl can't sing. Some of her top fans are in this orchestra.

This was in the open air, not in a theatre. And she succeeded in making the air echoing her voice.... Talking about vocal power.... Did you hear that? This is "masterclass singing". A lot of adult singers can not do what Angelina does here, looking very casually. This girl (a young woman by now) is so gifted. Well, to me this is more than "just" talent. By the way: this was during a concert where Angelina did sing songs from her CD "It's Magic" in 2018, on which this orchestra has played all the instrumental parts.

She intentionally colors each phrase/word/syllable in the lyrics to capture and reveal the true emotional intent of the song. She's a master at it. Few singers have the ability to do this, let alone the understanding.
Amazing talented young (12) year old girl absolutely slays this song, she is one of the best at manipulating the vowels and bending the phrasing of the song to make it unique.

Gina, thanks for your reaction. Angelina doesn't belt very often, saving them for when the song absolutely calls for them. It is all about telling the story of the song for Angelina. She will be performing two shows at the Westgate Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, on February 29, 2024. She sounds even better live.
The conductor had performed this with Angelina on their album but it looked like she kicked it up a notch and caught him off guard!!!
One reason I love this is because all the doubters of Angelina’s ability to belt need to bow down and humble themselves! This is one of the best live performances I have ever seen…

She was 12 yo and the whole band loved and adored her immensely. They also had, and still have, a stupendous amount of respect for her. During rehearsals at age 11 for her album the conductor, a man of fame in the Scandinavian military asked the 11 yo girl for ADVISE in music.
That is how she is respected today throughout the world.

That lady playing the clarinet (just behind Angelina) looks very much like a lady playing in Angelina's latest Nobel prize show concert.
I think for me the best adjective I could use for this performance would be "brave". There is no fear in her singing here. She just lets it all hang out. It's like a high wire artist working without a net. Make one mistake and the whole thing could go down in flames. And the coda at the very end is acapella. Insane.

You mentioned how Angelina is in contact with the musicians. At the point where the clarinet (?) is so loud that we have trouble hearing Angelina, she does a quick glance over toward that musician-and I think that look means “cool it”. It’s at the 6:10 time on this video.
I’ve never heard any singer that can give us such amazing authenticity in so many genres. The girl who is so amazing as a jazz and blues and ballad singer, knocks off a cover with such soul that James Brown would probably applaud.
An absolute classic jazz performance by the one and only Queen of Jazz herself Angelina Jordan and age doesn't matter. It's the vocals that she projects that live and breathe in your heart and soul so deeply. This young child understands and is able to deliver the complexities that jazz requires with all the nuances, inflections, rifts and runs, vocal dynamics and jazz ornamentations that are unbelievable to say the least. This was a masterful performance with a live band on stage. Angelina is always at her best when she is singing live and even with the poor quality of a cell phone recording delivered a monster performance. I would like to give a shout out Boris Palenovski, without whom many of Angelina's early concerts, including this one, would be nonexistent. He has lots of good equipment but was often not allowed to use it. Lucky for us he found her years ago and may still be her greatest fan as he had her latest Nobel Peace Prize performance out the day after she sang it! I didn't even know she was going to sing there!

Did you know she’s eleven here? When she extended that looooooooooost, the conductor looked over at her and then shook his head. This is what she often does-she doesn’t sing things the same way twice, so that one surprised him! English is her third language. My most favorite songs of hers are when she’s between ten and twelve, like this one, for instance. Just special!

A few years ago I saw a video of Whitney Houston singing in church at 12 yo & she wasn't even in the same league as Angelina at a similar age. Same for Mariah Carey at 13, she was good, but not even close to AJ at that age.
@@keithserafy Don't doubt it. Same applies to Adele at 19 in comparison. These tired people that make raggedy opinions against Angelina's covers against the originals while she is a child has always been weak. All you have to do is go back to that age to see the how they all fall short of her.
In addition to the frightening vocal qualities Angelina, as you rightly stated, is a genius of interpretation, this performance, personal opinion, pulverizes, keeping in mind the age, any other interpretation placing itself next to James who smiles from up there, thanks Ginx, beautiful and very right reaction, good life and music.

Hi, Ginx. Nice reaction...!! Really cool... And you were right, the high note Angelina hits in this song is one of the highest she's ever hit. It's a C5 (Do five), and without using falsetto, with which she reaches even higher notes (as she does in the astonishing "Mount Everest"). Falsetto is a thinner sound and is strictly in the 'head' and only uses the thin, leading edges of the vocal folds to vibrate. Head voice, on the other hand (which she uses in this video) is generally a stronger sound than falsetto. Another song in which she reaches incredible high notes is in the famous "I Putt a Spell on You" (with 9 years old) and in "Feeling Good" (with 10 y.o.), in which she displays her highest note (F5) and her largest range as well (from the lowest to the highest), both songs with 2 octaves: from F3 (the lowest note) to F5 (the highest).
She is really incredible.

12 years ago she did this I got this in my playlist I’m listening about 50 times and it’s wonderful and you can say anything at any age yes you can. Yes I’ve been watching it since she started seeing age of 18 months.
From one nerdy Angel to another, here is my proposed explanation for why it looks so effortless for her. I believe her parasympathetic system is in full control while other singers are usually at top sympathetic nervus system control.
When performers are singing, they are in top activation and their sympathetic system brings up their blood pressure, heart rate, moves blood to extremities and other fight-or-flight bodily responses. This was great to fight sabertooth tigers or fuel modern day athletes, however it might not be the best for singing.
Angelina said that singing is like breathing for her. She feels relaxed and in a good place. By being under the parasympathetic system control, her body can focus on optimizing internal function like diaphragm control and larynx relaxation. She can also better connect with finer emotions and emote them. We detect her relaxed disposition and interpret it as 'effortless'.
Angelina is the exquisite parasympathetic performer- this is my version and I am sticking to it 😀👣🔥🧡🙌❣️

Ah! At last! For years the best explanation I had seen was that she is actually a 1000 year old alien from the planet Jazz! Yours is actually much, much more likely. It explains why she seems less comfortable when being interviewed than she does when singing. Look at the faces of the musicians and especially the reaction of the conductor toward the end. There is clearly a collective sense of extreme pride, deep respect and admiration on their faces.
I have seen this performances a great many times and I still get chills hearing Angelina’s breath taking arrangement and interpretation of this iconic, James Brown song.

I've heard other talented young, and older vocalists tackle this song. While many have impressive voices, none can create such a faithful interpretation of the original. Every choice she makes is intentional and meant to serve the music, not to show off.

I can imagine Angelina at a very young age playing at home while grandma had old jazz records playing on the phonograph. thinking to herself, I can do that, and even better. And we all know that is true. Given perfect pitch from birth, all she ever wanted to do is sing. How lucky we are!!

My nf friend. Her maturity in musical choices, timing, professionalism, and performances have always been captivating to me. I used to be employed with a company that I drove on tour for musicians around the country I would carry the instruments and lights and sets in my 18 wheeler but it use to surprise me how cold a lot of artists were and it’s a very hard lifestyle so for someone at her age just blows me away ma’am!
