deep rising was one of the movies that got me and my dad to realize how full of shit reveiwers could be, got terrible reviews, but was one of our favorite movies of the year :>
Still one of my favourite guilty pleasures I think I might have watched it more than any other movie must have watched it hundreds or times lol I watched it yesterday for the first time in a few years still remember every word and tbh I was surprised how well it's aged
@@davemeads859 CGI wise only really questionable part is the octopusthingie at the end, but still a wonderful movie.
@@wolfwing1 lol I won't disagree with you there tbh CGI never ages well I miss the magic of practical effects and miniatures they age so much better
With a cast like that I’m surprised it didn’t get good reviews. And it was good
@@troyjohnson1186 yeah, but it's a horror, it's almost against the law for critics to like hehe.
Djimon Hounsou’s random axe to the head scene still makes me laugh out loud!
"Moneymoneymoneymoneymoney"
Moneymoneymoneymoney. Ahhhhhhhhhhh
I think Treat Williams is one of the best things in this movie. He is damn likeable and very funny.
@Cataclysmic Dildoser you mean Benny from The Mummy hahaha
@Necramonium it depends. It's a B movie and he is a B actor so i think it fits.
"Now what??"
A huge Williams fan ever since, "The Ballad of D B Cooper". Pinnacle of "B".
"Dead Heat"
This movie was so good. It was one of those types of movies where whenever it was on, you could sit there and watch the whole damn thing even though you only planned on watching a few minutes.
Exactly.
I saw this in the theater. My girlfriend thought we were seeing Titanic.
That's awesome.
Haha haha that’s amazing!
I wonder how that film turned out?
Does she now argue with people about how the Titanic actually went down?
"It wasn't a damned iceberg! Watch the fucking movie, Dumbass!"
Boy was she dumb lol
I remember my dad taking me to see this when I was 9 yrs old "dont tell your mom" lol
Thanks pops!
It's such a good guilty-pleasure B-movie, it's actually broken through and become a legit good movie.
It's like Tremors, fun and scary enough without being gory over the top.
Mike Green Oh it’s Plenty Gory!! Remember poor “Half Digested Billy”! (The studio that did the visual effect for that scene was actually credited as “Effects-Half Digested Billy”)
caernavon gulity. Fu. Proudly love it
i'm a fan of this movie, will watch it any time, even tho I'm seen it quite a few times.
@@dodgyb2001better than tremors imo
“Ahhh...Now what?” (edit)
Agree with many here. Saw it in the theater, thought it was a hoot, wanted a sequel. Have had it on DVD for years. Gotta love the closeup on Wes Studi’s eyes when he finds the gun is empty.
he shouldn't have wasted a bullet to try to kill the comic relief guy.
*now what...
I'm a HUGE Treat Williams fan !!! I remember he did a movie for The Substitue-film series and of course other films. But,that's the movie I first saw him in.
@@wiseguy01 thanks...it was off the top.
Such a fun underrated movie. Treat Williams kicks ass plus you have Sagat, Kano & Jean Grey. Lets not forget the soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith. "Chick with the muscles".
true dat
JW----- Yes. Chick with the muscles was funny. I saw this in theaters with my now wife. I always thought they landed on one of the Jurassic Park islands at the end.
Yup yup 😂
James Nelson they were setting us up for what I thought was gonna be a great, fun sequel
@@pathatfield2543 ---- Yeah, a cool cliffhanger.
I saw this movie.
That toilet death, still has me second guess public restrooms.
That just means your normal.
There's so much memorable scenes like that, haven't seen it since it came out but still find myself thinking about it from time to time.
The tollet death let's you know the movie doesn't take its self seriously, but, what a scene !!! LOL.And i didn't see Titanic at the cinema,so glad I didn't either !!! LOL.
😂😂 I consciously forgot this movie exists even though it has lived deep in my subconscious. Rewatched it because some random comment thread jogged my memory (knockoff Poseidon).
Long story short, THIS is the reason why I always have to close the lid to any toilet 😂
One of my favorite underrated movies ever. When friends are over and having fun, this movie never fails for first timers. The character Joey is up there with the all time greatest comic reliefs
I don't like you.
.....bbbut you don't even know me!?!
What a line.
A very relatable and realized character
Deep Rising did not deserve its bad reviews and was a solid horror action movie.A pretty good cast for a so called B movie. There was a time when Treat Williams did proper films .
This movie, along with Ghost Ship are two of my favorite scary ship movies. The best reveal is when you find out that the creatures aren't snakes or eels, but tentacles of one big ol' thing. That was great.
Ghost Ship, House on Haunted Hill, and 13 Ghosts make a good movie marathon.
I never would have guessed that people like ghost ship. Now that im thinking about it though, I did think it was sorta fun. The "snap" scene will probably stay with me till the day I day.
I'd add the one with Donald Sutherland onto that for three great ship horror movies.
Will never forget that opening lol
Not ashamed to say I love Ghost Ship! Sad history with an uncertain future. There’s a bunch of fanfics about it too. Lots of people ship (pun intended) Maureen and Jack.
This film felt very 80's with it's humor and gore. I think it deserves a sequel.
It was a fun movie. But doing a sequel in 2019.. they would just ruin it, let's be real
@@juanclaudio1103
You have a point.
I guess the cliffhanger serves as a classic cliché.
Now What?.........
One of the great goofy action flicks, the humor was spot on (girl from ipanema....cracked me up) Treat Williams deserves more credit for this one, a sequel should have happened but money what can ya do.
A sequel would be dope.
Has one of the best ending scenes ever. Loved it back then in the theatre. Especially the scene with the half-digested guy.
That movie kicks ass.. So much fun, start to finish
Lines like "Money money money... then he gets the axe to the head. Lol
I love this movie. The monster reveal got me. The ending though, I would've loved a sequel
Agreed
"Now what?"
A young Famke Jansen in a red dress. I would watch this movie for that alone.
Favourite quote "can you just get asthma or do you have to be born with it?"
I watched this movie in the theaters and left pleasantly surprised at how entertaining the movie was.. it's funny, yet not too serious, and keeps you interested in the movie.. and it's such a good guilty pleasure movie especially when nothing else is on
Deep Rising and Phantoms were two memorable movies from that time period. Love em.
Ben Affleck was the bomb in phantoms
Who was the bomb in Phantoms ?
Agreed. This movie is one of my favorites. Definitely go back to it often.
Dead Heat with Treat Williams was actually pretty good. Another The Best Movie you Never Saw.
I love that movie, watched it about 20 times.
I watched as a teen and I was so impressed. Had no expectations, but Treat Williams sold it very well
He was so natural in the role, I loved it
One of my all time favorite movies.
No Escape with Ray Liotta
Love this one.
I absolutely love this movie. It's one of my favorite creature features.
*monster noise *. "what's that sound?"........... "the girl from Ipanema"
My dad rented this when I was a kid. Definitely one of childhood favorites.
What I was impressed by when I saw it in the theaters was the stunt work at the beginning when the ship is attacked. There are some talented people flying off balconies and running each other over, lol.
Omg I almost had a heart attack when I found out they were gona release a Deep Rising anniversary blueray, but I am still waiting for the sequel! Best cliffhanger ever, or what!?
I really enjoyed this film. Deep Rising is one of my favorite birthday movies (flicks I saw in theaters on my b-day - late February). I only got to see the second half because I went to Palmetto & IT BLEW.
I'll say the monster of this movie did frighten me when I first saw it back in the mid 2000s, probably around 13 or 14 years old. The fact these things could be anywhere, in the pipes, in the walls, under the floor, it made walking through the claustrophobic halls rather suspenseful. Not to mention these things are quick, it takes them no time to eat you. And speaking of which, when your eaten you don't die, your kept inside still alive while it drinks you and dissolves your body.
I saw the movie in 1998 and a couple of years ago.The cgi is still fine.Great cast.
Deep Rising... or as I like to call it, the movie where nobody reloads their guns. Not even once.
1000-round magazines those chinese rifles have. 😎
They had the infinite ammo cheat turned on, but they didn't have the invincibility cheat.
Treat Williams did
dont mess with chinese rifle
Kevin's character: Can't get that song out of my head (The Girl from Ipanema)
I saw this when it came out. I even bought the DVD. Most fun I'd had in ages at the movies and I love Jerry Goldsmith's music. Keep up the great work.
The soundtrack is magnificent.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, from the stupid Gatling guns to the toilet death, it was all beautiful.
My dad is 78, and every damn time this comes on Tv...he watches it, I bet he's seen it 20 times in the last 10 years...lol
Such an underrated gem that should have been a hit. Its so sad that Stephen Sommers' last good film was The Mummy Returns.
His last good film was The Mummy.
The Mummy Returns was his first bad film.
@@spenser9908 Well its just my personal opinion and I like it despite its flaws. But lets agree that it's still better than Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (which was a piece of rubbish) and Van Helsing.
@@shadowleon659 Yeah, I'll give you that. Pissed me off, though, that they got rid of Jerry Goldsmith's amazing score for the first film. Such a great action theme.
@@spenser9908The score in the second film was a bit of step down from the first film. But its no near one of Alan Silvestri's worst and I will say that the second movie's score is okay. I wish Jerry Goldsmith wasn't busy with Star Trek: Nemesis and Hollow Man at the time.
Deep Rising is one of my all time favorites. Sooo underrated.
NOW WHAT!!!! I love that line so much, especially with the Jurassic Park tease at the end.
Jurassic Park ? The Fuck No.
Seen this movie so many times. Love it. It' hilarious good monster fun 🤣
The mid/late 90s was loaded with monster movies. Some great, some not so much.
The Relic, Deep Rising, Mimic, Starship Troopers, Species...to name a few. Pretty entertaining decade for movies.
Summer of 1997!
Agreed 👍👍👍
Total guilty pleasure. Seen it a bunch of times.
Duuude....don't show the endings of the movie you are recommending!
One of my all-time favorites.thanks for the post.
Say what you want but I've watched Deep Rising a hell of a lot more times than I ever watched Titanic.
I never saw Titanic. But I've seen Deep Rising so many times but it is still as entertaining as the first time I've watched it
This is one of my *Top 10 Favourite Sci-Fi Horror Movies* of all time, and I 💯 adore *Treat Williams;* he’s a wonderful actor & great as an action hero! 🥰❤️
This movie was a great hit on TV in Argentina during early 2000 ish. They would put it again and again with other hits like The Mask, MIB and Mars Attack. I had to stay up late and hide to be able to see it
I literally just watched this movie like 2 days ago! I love this movie! It doesn’t go into a huge amount of detail about the creature of the movie but there’s enough mythology in it to really make you wonder if monsters are in the ocean like that!
LOVE this movie. Watch it often . . . Made my family watch it one Christmas (evil laugh).
Just saw this for the first time yesterday. I loved it. Shocked I've never heard of this before because The Mummy and The Mummy Returns were some of my favorite movies growing up
Love this movie it’s one of my favourites shame a sequel was never made
Thank God somebody finally brought up this little lost gem. It is still my favorite guilty pleasure movies of the 90s.
I was pleasantly surprised by how good this movie ended up being.
this is the most thorough background on a film i've ever watched, nice work! subscribed for more
"what the hell is that?"
"The girl from Ipanema". 😂😂
This movie's a classic. 👍
One of my favorite lines to repeat in an elevator
@Jacob Zondag you're welcome... 😁
Watched it accidentally, never heard about it. Was surprised how entertaining it was.
RIP TREAT WILLIAMS 😔😢😢😢
My grandma took me to see this when I was 10. I don't know what brought us to the theater in January, where films go to die. But I loved it. And thanks Meme, for letting me watch way too many horror movies as a kid.
I loved it. Especially the ending. Too bad it didn't get a sequel
got a tape of this from my uncle when I was in the shelter with my mom. watched it almost every night.
My favorite scene is when the monster killed a person by sucking them through the toilet.
That Asian girl got it worse than anyone else in there
I saw this when It came out and then I saw it again about 2 months ago.....It's still pretty cool movie.
The tentacle monster was one good CGI for a movie that came out 20 years ago ! Final explosion was bad though.
Anthony Heald deserves a shoutout for his role as the shady cruise ship owner who inexplicably knows about the creature;
"Then they eat you, right?"
"No, they drink you. They drink you alive!"
Another best movie people never saw was "Equilibrium" starring Christian Bale.
I always used to get Equilibrium confused with Utraviolet and Aeon Flux. They all had that gray and white super future look with intermittent bursts of colour that felt distinctly uncomfortable but at the same time, genuinely appealing. The atmospheres of all three were very similar and I'd only ever remember one of the three titles. Ah, my childhood: it's all a blur.
Anaconda, Mimic, American Warewolf in Paris, lost in space, relic, feast, tremors. Sooooo many great B horror films
I watched this movie a couple of times. I really enjoyed it. And that ending always had me wondering if he ended up on Skull Island or The Land That Time Forgot
It is Skull Island.
I remember seeing this movie with a group of friends when it came out. We spent the rest of the day arguing about the lead actor Treat Williams because everyone but me thought that it was Alan Thicke. We went round and round with everyone thinking I was crazy for not recognizing him as the Dad from Growing Pains.
Ahead of it's time. True gem, and one of the best in the genre. What a fantastic cast. Love this movie.
What I'd not give to see deep rising 2 return of the octalus
I remember staying up late to watch this on a school night. I went to school the next day and all my mates had done the same thing, we all couldn't wait to tell each other about this insane movie.
I've seen this, It's not a bad film, I wish they had continued
I saw this in the theater and bought it on DVD when it came out.
This movie never got a fair assessment by critics at the time, who seemed to want it to be a more serious, epic film. But, I never saw this movie as much more than a fun popcorn flick, and it excels at that in every way.
What the heck is that?
The girl from Ipanima
I remember me and my brothers watching this movie on a VHS tape rented by our late uncle. Great times :)
I love Deep Rising. Saw
It years ago, it's so funny
Loved this movie back in the day! Glad it’s getting some attention.
I own this on VHS - seen it a gajillion times :)
The undeniable blessing of not having cable was watching heavily edited movies like this. Its a favorite
"Now What?!?" - Awesome movie. lol. If you want a rare gem IMO, I always enjoyed retroactive...
This film scared the shit out of me when I was younger!! However, it's now a cult classic with an all star cast, as well as a mixture of action, heist, and horror. A fun ride from start to finish!
The setting and soundtrack of this film still creeps me out.
Dude I saw this film
And dude
It was fucking awesome!!
This and The Faculty are excellent b-movies not to be taken seriously at all, with Tremors making up a nice trio...
i liked van helsing , I wouldn't mind if they made a sequel
Deep Rising was such a good movie. Loved Treat Williams in it. Shame they never made a sequel.
Deep rising lives.
Always loved this movie. I know critics despise it. But it's always had a good amount of people who like it. The love for it seems to grow more as time goes by.
I've loved this movie since it came out. I love the comedic dialog, and the lead character's fatalistic, now what? Sarcastic outlook is what made the movie so amusing to me.
One of my all time favorite movies, till this day I watch it almost every week
I saw this twice in the theater actually. I love this movie… “Now what?“
I was 15 when this movie released, I saw it like 3 or 4 times in the theatre and loved it. I a haven’t seen it for probably 20 years, I’ll have to watch it again.
LOVED THIS FILM! Growing up it was pretty out of nowhere but when my father rented it... it was awesome... you also feel a lot of mummy and that summers style. Love it!
Just saw the news, man....
He was so good in this movie...RIP Treat Williams
I also remember making my mom watch this movie back in the day. When she saw Treat Williams on screen and saw what his name was she said, “oh my! He would be a Treat!” 😄😄😄
this was one of my fave movies as a kid. watched it today out of boredom and had a ton of fun with it.
I saw this movie when I was a kid. Loved it then and I still love now.
just found this movie and it instantly jumped to one of my favorite creature features ever
