i feel like when he says the "Embrace your dreams" part he is really good. But the "Boy oh boy the price of freedom is steep" sounds a bit weird though
The new VA is ok, but I feel his delivery could've been better on the "Boy oh boy, the price of freedom is steep" line. The original VA had more of a somberness to his voice like he knew he was in for one hell of a fight. The new version just kinda sounds like a guy reading from a script.
Yesssss thank you for saying it , in the original Zack sounds like he knows he will probably die, but in this one he sounds like he is trying to be funny 🙄
I take it with a grain of salt cuz the old Zack had much more time to work with him and it was probably the first one for the latter. That being said the director should've pointed out that this was a somber scene
@@tsugikuniyoriichi22 I don’t know. I agree with the ordinal voice actor’s delivery of somberness; however, Zach’s personality was always about being chipper. I feel with the new va has the direction. Of Zach going out with a smile kind of feel to it.

Dude, there are more troops in the crisis core than in the remake. Like two times more. It makes sense though cuz if you finish crisis core, there's only 3 troopers left and they manage to kill Zack. Since the destiny have been changed, Zack fight less manpower which in turn, made him survived the fight. Oh and since everyone talks about the VA, gotta agree with crisis core is the better one. The remake is not bad though but it feels like Zack's personality changed.
The old VA sounded like he knew he was in for an unwinnable battle and was prepared to fight regardless. The new VA sounds like he's cocky as hell and feels no actual threat, plus I dunno why but the change from "as SOLDIER" to "as *a* SOLDIER" just made it worse. Maybe it's because the change went from it sounding like his honour as a member of SOLDIER to just *a* soldier, which has about as much weight as with the grunts, as any one of them is just "a soldier".
The problem with the new VA is not the sound of his voice but the TONE when he said "The Price of Freedom is steep". In crisis core, Zack sounded as if he's tired of running away and is ready face his destiny/death no matter what and that alone makes an emotional scene while in the remake, he sounded very optimistic.
The og delivery always put a knot on my throat...it's like he knew that was the day he was going to die, so he said it not for himself, but for Cloud, Aerith, Angeal and everybody he loved and lost because of that price

Writing doesn’t fall on the VA. But I understand what you mean. It’s not his fault having such big shoes to fill off of what the writers and directors wanted

I still get chills from this final scene all these years later, and even my 8 yr old, who hasn't played the game (yet), teared up watching it, along with the rest of the video including the fight scene and the song "Why" at the end.
I think the old VA had more experience and investment with the role before doing the scene. He knew how to perform because at that point he was Zack Fair. This is the new voice actors first attempt at playing the roll of a monumental part of the game. I bet if we go back to the start of cc we'll see cringe moments. If and when we see more of this version it will get better over time.
Rick Gomez's lines were delivered perfectly in Crisis Core, not a moment made me cringe. This new VA is too nasally and just makes Zack sound a bit douchey
There's a slight curl in CC's Zack's lip when he said "Boy oh boy". It feels how he look upon death with amusement, no fear, no hate, just like any other casual days. It fits his character well, free and easy going guy. That's why the old VA is better. My opinion only, anyone are welcome to disagree.
I like the old one, not because it's the original but the delivery that makes the Zack Fair character more deep and mature base on his past experiences in life.
So just to put my opinion out there, while I personally like crisis core voice actor better I think it can make sense why the delivery of this line sounds so different. So we got the whole changes to time happening and when we see the side by side of the scenes we see considerably less soldiers facing Zack in the remake. In crisis core there are so many soldiers the odds of coming out of this situation seem slim to none. However in the remake, the odds don’t look great but still in the realm of possibility. That could give a reason for why the remake version of Zack sounds a lot more arrogant in this scene. It’s also in Zack’s character to be a bit arrogant at times. I just wanted to say this because I really didn’t like how the way the lines were delivered my first time seeing the remake scene and I feel like the new voice actor deserves a chance
It's tricky as an actor because when you take on an established role you have to decide on how much you want to be influenced by what came before. New zack sounds less resentful, cocky. Kinda reflects the whole Meta plot of this being all alternate realities square re-casted everyone i think that's part of establishing the feel of a new universe. I dig it a lot personally. Fun fact the va's for zack and cloud haven't been in a videogame before.
I think the first part was a bit awkward in the remake but the second part when he holds the sword was delivered better. I like crisis core Zack but I'll give the new VA a chance.
I think the new one's lesser impact is as much a direction problem as a VA problem. In the first version, it's silent except for the wind and the sound of helicopters, and Zack tiredly remarks that the price of freedom is steep. He's a tired traveller who's finally reached the end of the road in the middle of some nameless wasteland and has one last struggle ahead. In the second version they drop this heavy handed orchestral score on you and Zack wastes all this energy whining about "dragging our asses all this way," before energetically saying the line like a cereal mascot telling us that frosted flakes are more than good, they're steep.
The problem isn't the actor, it's the direction he was given for the scene. Later on when he is carrying Cloud to Midgar and says, "Almost there, Cloud. We are almost there. . ." He sounds perfectly fine. But in this scene, he feels painfully cocky which doesn't mesh well at all with this scene especially.
Both of these are better than the new remaster, unfortunately. The original is still the best, imo. He did the best job of conveying the solemn conviction Zack was expressing in that moment, knowing he likely wouldn't walk away from that fight.
I’m pretty sure the main difference is the context. It seems like Zack in Remake thinks there’s a chance he can still win. I think the difference is that Zack knows there’s a chance he will die but he has a goal he wants to reach so he doesn’t sound as resigned.
New VA just sounds like he's doing a much younger interpretation of Zack here. The old VA felt like he made Zack age over time, that he lived a life of loss and lost everything and everyone he loved.
When I played the OG Crisis Core I remember thinking "...Bro, Zack fought through his mentor Angeal, Sephiroth, Genesis and an army of monsters, mutants and Soldiers, and I'm supposed to believe that he gets offed by a bunch of grunts?"
You have to take account that this Zack is also suffering acute mako poisoning and on the run for a year so obviously he isnt in top shape. He also dont have materias here only brute strength.

I’m not saying this in any negative way, he simply looks less cartoonish and more real, leaning towards looking more asian-esque than his original appearance.
I hate the more asian-ish look. Not being racist imma explain. Obviously we got more used to the old look and that is the zack we knew. I prolly wouldnt complain if this was the look they had from CC to begin with. If they can make the character designs in the remake look perfectly identical with what they used to look like, why the fuck cant square enix do the same for zack?
@@chadmarx7718 well first of all its a bit to do with present day characters appearances, which is Imo more centered on realism nowadays which also makes characters more easy to relate to. Also the remake is also to help new fans create new memories with the game us older fans knew and cherished, so a more realistic design vs animey is honestly more likely to garner more new fans to try out the game.
The way he say Embrace your dreams is pretty good. I think it's just lack of experience and knowledge of this character. I mean... he only had a small handful of lines to work with and he was probably only shown the cutscene to work with. Square probably could have trained/directed him more but probably chose not to.
1:36 I have a theory and you may have heard of this already. I think the phantoms are the spirits of the old game trying to make things go the way they should be. They noticed that fate was beginning to change and that couldn’t happen. And the first thing they noticed was zack was going to survive the assault. Fortunately they failed and zack stayed alive albeit wounded and helped cloud back to midgar. So the remake could be considered a sort of sequel to the original and honestly feels like a meta way of trying to tell the story which I don’t think has been done before but hopefully this goes well.
I don't think it's the sound of the voice actor that isnt as good, but the delivery of the lines. The original sounds like a character that knows they are about to die, while the new version sounds apathetic to his situation.
the graphics of the new one is insane but had to sacrifice the emotional voices of old one..... crisis core= low graphics but highly attractive voice remake= high graphics but third class voice.... the godfather will say after watching this "look what have you done to my boy :( "
So if they added more troops he would've lived huh? (referring to the fact that there are more troops plus sword users as well) I think the new VA is alright, the old one is what I first heard though, I like 'em both. Though new one sounded more confident than the old one, as if the old one was kind of accepting fate.

As someone who never played crisis core until recently, the new VA is actually better, I think you all are wearing some Ruby Weapon glasses. Zack is a high level Soldier against a bunch of foot soldiers and a helicopter, he has no reason to be somber or think he's gonna lose. The only reason he died against them in the original timeline is because the story demanded he did. He has every reason in the world to be cocky. And even if you take all that away, he's a Soldier, he already traded a good portion of his life away for the ability to protect people/his dreams, so he would probably face death with a smile on his face.

The feels :(
I prefer the old VA but the new scene is 100x better, cant wait for whatever it'll lead to;
I dont like how the new one say as A soldier . He was not talking about as A soldier . Soldier is the name of thr group they are enlisted in
theres like 3 times as much shinra soldiers in crisis core, maybe thats why he survives in the remake
I've prefer Zack's VA from Crisis Core.
Nakey Jakey made his voice acting video too soon
I don't think it's the sound of the voice actor that isnt as good, but the delivery of the lines. The original sounds like a character that knows they are about to die, while the new version sounds apathetic to his situation.
as *a* SOLDIER
The only thing that really bothers me is how he says “as A SOLDIER” instead of “as SOLDIER”. It’s a small bit that just doesn’t sit right
Anyone notice the buster swords are different?
Yes
remake one is more accurate to the original buster sword from the og ff7 artwork
the graphics of the new one is insane but had to sacrifice the emotional voices of old one.....
crisis core= low graphics but highly attractive voice
remake= high graphics but third class voice....
the godfather will say after watching this "look what have you done to my boy :( "
Im sorry, I can’t. It’s so bad for me. I’m so sad T.T
Crisis core shits on the remake at least on zacks part great remake though
Yare yare daze~
Good grief...
So if they added more troops he would've lived huh?
(referring to the fact that there are more troops plus sword users as well)
I think the new VA is alright, the old one is what I first heard though, I like 'em both. Though new one sounded more confident than the old one, as if the old one was kind of accepting fate.
his old va is soo much better lol
They fucked us with the ne w voice actor
All the voice actors of Crisis Core were better than those in the FF7 remake.
Freedom cost a buck-o-five.
Why did they retcon Zack's death
They didn't, it's an alternate timeline where Zack lived, at least from what we can see. In the current Remake timeline, he's still dead.
Yup. The alternate timeline is alluded to when you see the bag with Stamp the dog on it. But, it is a different dog in the timeline where Zack lived.
It's brilliant really. It's both a remake and a sequel all in one. I hope they include a lot more of Crisis core in the remake's future.
They're clearly making the happy ending ff7 where no one dies... missing the point of what makes the story so compelling
@@ManicOpake Not sure if everyone survives. Maybe it will be one of those things where the players have to really work for it (like deus ex) or decide who dies (like mass effect)
The new VA is fine. I'm sorry to say but the old one dropped his crown and I need to give it back to him.
No wonder Zack lived in the remake scene. Shinra must not have seen Zack as a threat unlike in CC.
Bought psp before just to play this game
The old VA sounds super wooden. I can't read solemn from that no matter how hard I try.
Is this fake or did I just get spoiled?
great! time to watch zack die again but now in 4k. :( I mean including Sephiroth, Angeal, genesis etc.
The new zack its looks like it was model by foreigner not by japanese human the old zack looks much better
6 El sentimiento, el grito "come and get it", no fue convincente
As "A" soldier. Ruined it.
@@Killer_Kris7 it make more sence to people who dont know FF7, SOLDIER is an organisation, he wouldn't say "protect your honour as A Shinra"
Crisis Core’s design looked better
As someone who never played crisis core until recently, the new VA is actually better, I think you all are wearing some Ruby Weapon glasses. Zack is a high level Soldier against a bunch of foot soldiers and a helicopter, he has no reason to be somber or think he's gonna lose. The only reason he died against them in the original timeline is because the story demanded he did. He has every reason in the world to be cocky. And even if you take all that away, he's a Soldier, he already traded a good portion of his life away for the ability to protect people/his dreams, so he would probably face death with a smile on his face.
Old is better
