    THIS...this is how you direct actors

    A lot of people give Fincher crap for doing so many takes, but it stops the BS. Gore is a fine actor, but that's all he was doing in the first take. He wasn't as invested as he thought he was until the end, especially when he started having fun playing around with all the nuances that Fincher was suggesting. Fincher makes an actor work until they really want to give it their all. Sorry! I just love watching Fincher direct!

      This is *_fascinating_* to watch.....especially after having seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo probably 20 times now. I absolutely _adore_ this movie....it's one of Fincher's best imo. But, after watching these behind the scenes clips, I cannot wait to smoke some quality cannabis sativa and re-watch TGwtDT again tonight......but this time, paying close attention to all the minute details.

      Fincher always tries to make a distinction between performance and presentation. He wants to take the actors past the point where they rehearsed the scene the night before and really allow them to sink into the role and get lost in it.

      That is a good point there actually. I wouldn’t do it as a director but it’s an interesting technique

    Some people may criticize Fincher's way of directing, saying it is 'result' direction. Telling the actors how they should do a scene. Directors like Lumet do lots of rehearsals and when it comes to the day of the shoot he gives some 'cause' direction and they get the shot in one or a couple of takes. But I admire Fincher's way of directing constantly giving little suggestions to the actors, and it does seem to drive out good performances from the actors eventually.

      in the movie, when he says in a defeated way 'she's different' w his shoulders, it was absolutely phenomenal.

    Is this a audition or a rehearsal? If it's a audition why would David go through the lines so many times? Was he already set for the role but David wanted to double check?

    • @BrendanCescon
      @BrendanCescon 7 лет назад +11

      In an audition, it's not unusual for directors to run through the scene several times with an actor to see if the actor can take direction and get the character where he/she needs to be.
