    One of the 5 people that actually got something out of kickstarter....

      Don't worry, I've lost money on other kick starter projects and looking back now found buying the item after the campaign is cheaper then investing at the start. Bonus bit of that is round 2 of the item bought will be less faulty then the first batch.

      The campaign was a huge success and they are looking for distributors to carry the product. Keep an eye out for online sales.

      Cheaper at MicroMark vs Amazon

    I'm a wooden model ship builder and bought this cutter thinking I could use it to cut some scratch made parts for models I build. I use hard woods like boxwood, swiss pear wood, and holly. This cutter has two major design flaws. First, the coiled cord. It's stiff, doesn't uncoil easily and it's attached to the box at the back, not the front. When you cut you basically are dragging the box with you which is added weight making it more difficult to control. Second design flaw is the location of the button on the cutter handle. It's on the top. You grip the handle like you would a pencil but with the button on the top, the grip is awkward and adds to the difficulty of cutting accurately. There's one more thiing I'd like to add. The cutter CANNOT cut hard woods. It burns and just stops working. It was a nightmare for me trying to use this cutter due to these design flaws. I sent it back to MicroMark the very next day for a refund. $400.00 is just too much to pay for a tool that is so difficult to use with these design flaws.

    Didn't know they made tools in kickstarter. I guess anything can be backed to help it get made.

      I've seen action figures, table top games miniatures and models being delivered to friends. Tools are not uncommon specially 3d printers but this one made me shell out.

    Almost a year later how happy are you with this tool?? also, what about long straight cuts requiring a straight edge, can you use a metal ruler to help cut straight or is this tool only for free handed cutting?

    • @mokanaman
      @mokanaman  5 лет назад +1

      Still very happy with the tool, straight cuts can be done with a straight edge yet very long cuts are difficult. I would rather use a cutting wheel on a dremel.

    I just changed the blade in mine, the blades supplied ......................... now it won't work!
    Fully charged, no vibrations at all, no sound at all. Did the 'reset' as instructed in the manual. Still nothing!?
    I've basically got a very very expensive exacto knife! : (
    Any ideas?

      At this stage you need to contact the manufacture or you may have pushed in the chuck too deep. Any who email them and see what the case is.

      @@mokanaman Hi Alan, and many thanks for your reply ; ) .................. You and your viewers may be interested to know, so I thought I would post back my findings.
      The line "If the collet or the blade are contaminated ..........." in the user manual, put me on the right track! The unit is brand new as are the blades, the actual replacement blades that came with the unit ( BDC-200P ), so nothing is 'worn'. It's the first time I've ever needed to change a blade, I only used it a few times but broke the tip off the blade.
      The new blades supplied with the unit are in small sachets ( x5 in each baggy ), it's vitally important to clean the blades first before inserting them into the small collet, I used Isopropanol Alcohol to clean the blade ( and now also the collet as the blade made contact with it ), reassembled everything as per the manual and reset the unit.
      Everything now working as it was! : )
      Not knowing too much about this sort of technology originally, I'm now a little wiser ............... the importance of cleanliness is vitally important, the oils on the brand new blades to stop oxidation was the culprit, and make double sure that the interior where the collet goes is also 'de-contanimated' ; )
      All the best my friend.

    How long does a blade last? Are there any other types, like wood carving blades?

    • @mokanaman
      @mokanaman  6 лет назад +1

      Blade wears out quite quickly, maybe every session. Tamiya and excel selling them in packs of 30 very cheap. If the tang fits in the handle you can really use anything.

    How is this for cutting into fiberglass and balsa?

    • @mokanaman
      @mokanaman  4 года назад

      Fiberglass no issue, had no luck with balsa any thicker then 10mm. However you can buy a special balsa blade or fine tooth saw by another manufacture who does the same blade mounting point. Balsa is just hard to cut with out special tools try a balsa knife as well.

    Sr , can you please make a test cutting tissue paper?

    • @mokanaman
      @mokanaman  4 года назад

      I do not think this tool is effective to cut tissue. Try a surgical scalpel or heated knife.

    Seriously? The price is absurd!

    • @mokanaman
      @mokanaman  6 лет назад

      This is the cheapest one on the market. Several years ago they were going for about $1k+. In future I can see this tool being more affordable and accessible once the consonants as mass produced for general use. Still better use of my money then the latest apple phone.

    • @kevinm3751
      @kevinm3751 6 лет назад +1

      Considering what they do, I am sticking with the idea the price is absurd. I can accomplish the same thing with my Dremel, but I will totally agree with you on the phones. I fail to see the justification for ANY cell phone that costs more than $300 or $400. They only sell for that much because there are so many fools out there that dont understand the value of their dollar and are clueless to the fact they are getting screwed big time by these companies that are setting back laughing that they are selling a phone that costs them less than $100 to make. Anyway, yea if the price goes down on this cutter to something more realistic I will probably get one. I can see the value in having one but not when something that is a fraction of the cost can do the exact same thing with some finesse.
