So very sad to hear we have lost her. Helen Reddy was a shining light for every woman & her voice unique. This is one of my favourite songs. Vale to a wonderful Lady.
very sadly this candle on the water has now gone out. rest in peace Helen you will always be remembered goodnight godbless. from Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.
She was an legend I will never forget, she was loved by me and my family for years. She will b remembered & missed. We love u Helen, bless u for giving so much!
We have hope even in Covid, with Helen’s wonderful voice and the 1977 Pete Dragon. Remember Pete and Elliot. The movie was wonderful. Music can always lift us up, along with prayer.
We’ll be your Candle on the Water here on Helen. We’ll keep the flame watching over, listening to your lovely music continuing forever. Rest In Peace. 🙏🏼💙
Helen was one a kind, when she sang in Pete’s Dragon she gave the movie heart. Disney only makes greats movies, Helen was great in it. A true Disney Classic now she sings with the Angels.
Yes, this song and movie brings me back to my childhood. I got the VHS tape of it for Christmas when I was like 4 or 5 and I watched it religiously as a kid growing up 🥹🥹
I have not seen this movie since I was little. I loved it and I think I wore out the VHS tape. I even had an old time record of it, played that way too many times as well...lol! Great movie and of course lovely voice of Helen Reddy.
I love this song. It is beautiful and offers comfortable and hope. May this song lift your hearts too. Helen Reddy is wonderful. From Virginia Clark. 😢❤🐉🐬🐦
Helen was denied an Academy Award for this song. The Academy chose Debbie Boon's cover of "You Light Up My Life". Helen Reddy is more talented than Pat and Debby combined.
@@ObiTrev I agree it was a bad choice. Back then I liked both of the songs equally & I still have some fond memories of "You Light Up My Life" but in the current time I realize that this song, "Candle On The Water" is a much better song with a much better performance & should have won the Best Song Oscar without any question. Debbie Boone had better songs that didn't hit as big, like "California" that likely also got swept under the rug because her cover of "You Light Up My Life" was so popular.
I remember this song when I was a little boy. I loved Pete's Dragon. I couldn't have been older than four. Thanks for posting this. It's been in my mind lately since I was told that I'm dying in two to four years. Thanks again.
My parents were engaged when this movie was in theaters, and married the next summer. This was their song. We had the record soundtrack, and my mom always sang along with this song.
"Hi There" The fact is that "Pete's Dragon" was panned by critics for being too long and having too many needless music numbers and weak plot. Of course Helen Reddy's song is the main thing in the movie and the movie is a vehicle for the song. But it is one of those things, Helen Reddy became known for being in "Pete's Dragon" but it was a movie that failed to find its audience.
This song does mean alot with the words to it and will melt your heart as it does mine. Now I know we r all different to taste but two reasons why I love this film with all the songs and a great star cast is. Back when it was on at the Odeon Glasgow this was the only film my Ma with my 2 young brothers saw with me. That was our only one special day at the cinema. The other reason is from way on back to my small very young boy childhood I have always loved Dragons even fantasy friends of make believe because I had a whole rejected childhood. And this film means so much as Peter Pan and Neverland does. At age 10 I was in a boys home. We all need a beacon candle light. It's the only way out of the darkness. There's room for everyone in this world as it's sung in Petes Dragon. It's a shame many adults don't believe in that. This is a great all time classic like Peter Pan it will go on for all who need it always without fail ever.
Every time I hear this song it makes me cry.... I sang it at my friends funeral and it brings back so many memories. I wasn't afraid to cry on stage even if I am an 18 year old guy.... I love you and miss you Tim I hope you have found peace.
Pete's dragon was one of my favorites growing up along with the lion king, truth be told I can identify with pete as I grew up in an abusive home too and had many imaginary friends throught the years, I still prefer the original version of this song though.
"Pete's Dragon" (1977/78) was probably the last "old school" Disney flick ever made: a live action musical w/accompanying animation...sweet and sentimental. Even "The Cat from Outer Space" and "Unidentified Flying Oddball" though very much of the "Dean Jones" school, were attempting to cash in on the post Star Wars hype. Over the succeeding decade, things morphed from "The Black Hole" to "Tron", to the Touchstone Comedies and then the "retro/classic animation" craze ("Little Mermaid et al.).
When I was little I had this little disney Kareoke disc and everybody was soo annoyed by me cause this song ( or I won't say i'm n love in hercules, no one,can remember :P) was my favorite song ever and it was all I would play in my play room
good memories. My Women's Choir is singing this, it took me 20 seconds while we sung this to realise it from Pete's Dragon. During the singing I stood up and shouted "OMG! THIS IS FROM PETE'S DRAGON!!!I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!" My music teacher laughed his ass off XD
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I was addicted to this movie soundtrack when I was a kid. The other awesome song on the soundtrack that Helen Reddy sings is "There's Room for Everyone", which would be perfect for the Democratic Convention right now, since no one but Wealthy White Supremacists are welcome in Traitor Trump's Terror Campaign. The last lyrics of that song are, "Let's all make sure we give everyone somewhere to stand, just the way God planned it, just the way God planned!"
Very well said and yes that was and is God's plan. It's a shame that others in such ignorance in darkness can't see know learn understand that as we and many others who do. Even very young children understand it. Just the way God planed it just the way God planed. They who don't only suffer in there own ignorance. Because of power in money many refuse to believe in God. All to do with free will gone out of control.
I definintely agree with you. The original music was so much better. The pop doesn't even fit in with the movie. I wasn't born during the time when it was first released, but I grew up with it and it was my favorite movie for a while. But I'm one of the few who doesn't like a lot of modern music, but more class music.

I absolutely love Pete’s Dragon, and nothing will ever top the original. It is one of Disney’s greatest movies in my opinion.

Beautiful and encouraging
@@ObiTrev A lot of people would say that it did not matter because both songs are too mellow and syrupy.
Absolutely beautiful song, loved Helen Reddy and Pete’s Dragon was my fav Disney movie ever!! I sang this song in chorus in 1984, wow how time flies!
I remember this song when I was a little boy. I loved Pete's Dragon. I couldn't have been older than four. Thanks for posting this. It's been in my mind lately since I was told that I'm dying in two to four years. Thanks again.

You will keep singing
Helen Reddy: "I'll Never Let You Go I'll Never Let You Go I'll Never Let You Go..."

"TheKimko" I guess no matter what this song is considered unsophisticated.
She was robbed the Oscar for best original song during the 1977 Oscars.
Who in their right mind thought Debbie Boone was better than Helen Reddy?

I sang a few bars of this song for my middle school chorus audition. Risky song choice but I apparently looked so happy they let me in!
